How to farm Zin'Rokh- tips for farming Archaeology Cataclysm WoW

Zin Rokh

Zin Rokh Destroyer of Worlds is easily one of the most popular swords in WoW. There is no doubt most people have seen it, especially at level 60 from Zul Gurub. The look of the sword is why it headlines as one of the most popular swords in the game. The best part is, that for the first time ever it is possible for you to have a chance of getting it on your own, without having to get a group! Just so you know-- farming for Zin Rokh is not easy!

I made this page, because I could not find anything that had all of the information that I needed. I also am sharing some of my little tips and tricks with you. I am always looking for the fastest/best ways to do things. Pay attention to the pictures, it can really help you out tremendously. Archaeology farming is a technique, create your own, or emulate mine!

How to find Zin'rokh

How to find Zin'rokh

How hard is it to find Zin Rokh?

Nearly every person that has came to this page has looked for Zin Rokh. Here are the results of how often they actually get it.

Zin rokh Fail

Farming for zin rokh

After doing plenty of research I have found out that Zin Rokh is only available at skill 450 or better.

That being said Zin Rokh is not easy to get at all. I saved up 1700 Troll Fragments and 40 Troll fragments. Not only did I not get Zin Rokh, all I got were useless common rewards that were worth under a gold each. It was really disheartening. So honestly, it is up to luck. Good luck farming zin rokh!

Here is the strategy I am currently using to get my Zin Rokh, it is very simple and effective.

So in a nutshell what you need to know

  • Archaeology level 450 is when you become eligible
  • Farm in Eastern Kingdoms
  • Save all troll fragments and Troll Tablets!
  • Farm all the way to level 450-525 without using any troll items
  • 1700 Troll Fragments and no Zin Rokh

I personally chose to go to 525 and to try my luck then.It really is unclear if you get a better chance at Zin Rokh if you are at level 525, but I wasn't going to risk it. However for me, it did not pay off.

Get Gathermate2 for faster Arch

Gathermate2 is a great way to help you survey faster. Every split second you are out there matters. The faster you do it, the better chance Zin'rokh will come. Make your own strategies, here was mine!

Farming for Zin Rokh Look Closely

I could have made a lot more pictures, but it is very simple. It is very important to start at the top or the bottom. After Farming Zin Rokh for 3 days straight, here is what I have come up with

Before this picture I had worked my way up to the top. After I got to the middle I noticed that none would spawn below me. At least not until I really started working my way up. All of my flights were really close and this was my last one. Notice one thing, all 3 are right by Grom Gol.

Pay Close Attention, This is a Great Strat

As you can see, after I got that last dig site the last of the 4 got sent down south! Great news for me, just what I wanted to happen! It took me just about 30 minutes, and my hearth stone was ready to go. I simply use my hearth stone and teleport to org.

Why Orgrimmar you say? Well the fact was you need it to level, but also it is really worth it. You can easily look at your map and decide for yourself which portal or Zepplin you want to take. Not to mention while waiting for the Zepplin it gave me time to go get my next level of professions, to increase my skills.

This gives you your best chance at Zin Rokh

After getting all of the ones at the bottom and slowly working my way up I have once again got them all together. That is not a terrible flying distance, so in this particular situation I did not hearth. I also do not think it was up anyway. I worked my way up to the top, getting several new spawns.

If done right, they should all or at least most should spawn above you. And when you get all the ones at the top, it is probably going to be time to hearth down to the bottom again. We will see!

After clearing those dig sites and other ones that spawned up North you can see what happened. Two have been shot all the way down to the bottom, and the other is near as well. I am going to go grab this last one and let us see where it is at.

Best Strategy for Zin Rokh

Wham wouldn't you know it all three right next to each other! This happens to me nearly every time.

I am a warrior so all I have is a hearth stone. And portals and things available to everyone else. If you are a Mage or a different class with lots of places to port to, use it to your advantage! My brother tells me he uses his DK portal all the time in Eastern Kingdoms, I forget exactly where, but I am sure you know!

I am 100% certain that the right mouse will instantly improve your WoW skills. The more buttons that you can manage to use on your mouse, the better! My friend and brother swear by this thing! I am really impressed with it and actually I am upset that I am telling you to get this! It might just make you harder to kill in the World of Warcraft!

Please post picture and comment Below and tell us how long it took to farm! For instance:

I have used 1700 fragments and 40 Troll tablets. No luck.

It will be featured above all of the maps.

On my druid- 505 troll solves, Working on my pally now with just over 60 solves at 525 as well. NO SWORD

Gmazing on August 26, 2011:

I've probably done around 100 Troll solves, that being a few 10 hour grinds. I can't do these grinds without doing mine/herb for an alt while I'm at it, the money is just not good enough, you feel like you're wasting way too much time (you are.)

The only reason I do it is because I don't raid, and from gold farming and doing the easy weekly bonuses ive gotten everything I can from points, this is the only place left for a "casual" player like me to go.

I either am going to quit or only do 1 run of 200 fragments/6 solves per day. Seeing the numbers posted here I just can't see myself logging hundreds of hours for one sword, even Monster Hunter wasn't that bad, and those were the worst grinds of my gaming career.

Idahoe from Eonar on July 08, 2011:

I have been leveling archeology for about a week now... already got to 450. Got the sword around 300 (just luck i guess.) Friend also got the sword around 300 so it is not a requirement that you are 450 or higher :/ just a better chance

Stout on April 12, 2011:

I think some of you have unrealistic expectations of getting this sword. It is consistently rumored to have a 1% chance of being your next troll solve after 450 skill. If we accept that as true, the chances you will get the sword after x number of troll solves is as follows.

Each solve has a 1% chance. Just because you have solved 300 troll artifacts doesn't mean you are more likely to get it on the next solve than someone who hasn't solved any yet. Here is a table of your cumulative chances of getting the sword after x number of solves.

Troll Solves / %

1 / 1%

10 / 9.6%

20 / 18.2%

69 / 50%

100 / 63.4%

150 / 77.9%

200 / 86.6%

250 / 91.9%

300 / 95.1%

400 / 98.2%

500 / 99.3%

600 / 99.8%

This means that if you solve 600 troll artifacts, your chances of getting the sword at some point in the 600 solves is 99.8%. However, for those that don't understand statistics well, you can count troll solves you've already done unsuccessfully. For example, lets say you've solved 300 troll artifacts and haven't got the sword. If you keep farming until you've solved a total of 500 artifacts, your chances of getting it aren't 99.3%. Because you didn't get it in the first 300 attempts, the next 200 attempts have the same chance of getting it as anyone else solving 200 artifacts, or 86.6%. This is because your chances after every solve are always 1%, no matter how many you've done previously. Still, this table predicts the chance you will get it in a certain amount of solves. Use it to get a reasonable estimate of what to expect. Plan on doing several hundred solves before you complain about it not dropping. Some people above are complaining after 60 solves, but their odds of getting it were less than 50%.

alphamike on April 12, 2011:

I have the addon that shows how many completed artifacts u have made pretty much spent 7 hours a day for the last month and a half(literally). I am up to 567 competed artifacts so I figure that 567x30 average fragments used to make each artifact = roughly 17000 fragments of course at this rate i have to keep going ive simply used too much time. I also have received every other rare artifact there is to find amongst the Eastern kindom dig sites including nighelf, fossil, dwarf, and NERUBIAN which are supposedly rare. So to all those actually going for this sword be ready to put your time in.(Estimate spent prolly 250-300 hours as of now will keep you posted)

@starcraft2guides I had the one big attempt and I never got to try again, plus I got the PVP sword so it was not a big deal to me.

starcraft2guides on April 10, 2011:

I've spent all week doing archeology and no sword yet...

Mikeydoes, are you still farming for this sword?

Anonymous on April 10, 2011:

I think that you have higher chance if you just solve many commons, i mean don't save or anything else. Just solve and do the normal way without saving.
