Once spinning, the object is to lay the tool across the tool rest, touching the blade to the spinning wood, removing the top layer of wood.

You continue in this fashion until the grain of the wood is exposed. It is shaped the way you decide to shape it.

Some people make their turned objects all neat and pretty. Some intentionally leave some rustic feature.

We had a tree blow down with a wind storm and this wood is cedar. Red cedar. It's supposed to be soft to work with.

It's very pretty. Cream color and a deep pink.

I thought, maybe I should buy some new chisels. Perhaps there were some improvements made in blades since 1976...
