Wii U Recommendations: Wii

Wanderin Jim is reader of comics, novels, a player of many video games and a watcher of many shows and he has some opinions to share.

Before I begin.

Just like before the, Wii U eshop is shutting down in March 2023 and that honestly sad. So many games will be effectively lost. I don't know about you but I don't want anyone missing out on some solid good games so just like before here is a list of some of the Wii games that I would recommend. but Before I begin a few things.

One: This is my list, if disagree or feel i missed something please let me know.

Two: I am going of games I know and or own the WII U. So again, if I missed something please let me know.

Three. If the game is on another more current platform then I don't count it,

and with that let's get started.

One: Metroid Prime Trilogy

I already spoke of Metroid Prime Trilogy in a previous article but let me just say, you can get this on the WII U eshop for twenty dollars while it will cost you a couple hundred to buy the original physical version for the Wii. These are three great games rolled into one awesome package and for the moment the only way to experiance these games, of course with Metroid Prime 4 in the works they might release these games on the switch but until then this is it and for that matter they have been talking about Metroid Prime 4 for years at this point so don't old your breath.

Two: Super Mario Galaxy 2

For Mario's 35 anniversary we got Super Mario 3D all-stars which included Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy however, Super Mario Glaxy 2 was strangely left out. Mario Glaxy 2 was the less popular game acting not so much as a sequel but more as a more lighthearted retelling of the first one. that's not a bad thing far from it and it's still a great game but because of that, Nintendo seems to be trying to forget this one which is a shame. You can generally find this on eBay for pretty good prices but once the eshop shuts down that will only increase.

Three: Wario Land Shake It

This game is currently the last of the Wario Land series of games which is to bad on itself howeve, this was a fantastic plat former to end it on. Wario Land Shack it went virtually unnoticed by the public mostly due to Nintendo not properly advertising it. Honestly, between all the collectibles and the Wario style humor and gorgeous hand drawn art style of the entire game, this is one game that due to low sales, Nintendo probably won’t re-release but you shouldn’t miss out on.

Four: Punch Out!!! Wii

Long have we waited for the day when Little Mac would return to the ring, and when he did on the Wii he was stronger and better than ever. Many have the boxing game we sports and this is not much different other than recognizable characters and a short story. If motion controls are a sore spot for whatever reason you can still play the game like you would the old classic with the Wii remote on it’s side. This game sold well in the US however, since Punch Out is really one of the more obscure ip’s in Nintendo’s lineup, I personally don’t see them porting this on to the switch which is to bad, this really probably the best game in Little Mac’s career, good job son, good jo.

Five: Donkey Kong Jungle Beat

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, was originally released on the GameCube but was then re-released on the Wii with a few new feature including a boss rush mode and I think time trails. Donkey Kong Has a few odd games back there and many of them probably won’t get ported or haven’t been ported to anything even close to modern. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat was part of a series of games that used the DK bongo drums controller along side Donkey Konga Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, unfortunately this is the only game from that series of games that was re-released on the Wii and then on the Wii U. It’s not on the switch I don’t see it coming to the switch anytime soo.

Final Thoughts

I realize while making this list that most of that all of these games are in fact first party games which of course means that they could get ported onto the modern Nintendo Switch but many of these didn’t sell as well as they should. Also I realize that not all of these games are that expensive to get ahold of but not everyone has a Wii console or simply don’t want to go through the effort to track down a physical copy. These are all great games that as of writing this are only available on the Wii U, and once the eshop closes those aforementioned physical copies are only going to get more expensive as there is no other way to play and experience them. What do you guys think, are you going to get at least on of the games on this list, this is not a complete list of the Wii games available on the Wi U so please look through it yourself and see what meets your fancy and if you find something that should be on this list please let me know in the comment section below. I’m Wanderin Jim and I hope you all have a super happy day.
