Wii U Game Recommendations

Wanderin Jim is reader of comics, novels, a player of many video games and a watcher of many shows and he has some opinions to share.

Before We Begin

With the Wii U eshop shutting down in March 2023 I think it's more important than ever to buy and collect some of the games you might want now while you still can. In this article I have a few games I would like to recommend. First thing's first, a few rules after all, many games from the Wii U have been fortunately ported to the switch or are simply available on other consoles.

One. I'm only counting games that are ether exclusive or feature exclusive content on the Wii U.

Two. Even if the game is on another console if the Wii U version as some overwhelming feature, then I'll probably count it.

Three. This is not a definitive list, that would take way to long and this is my list please feel free to make one yourself.

With that out of the way let's get started.

One: Metroid Prime Trilogy

To be honest, this will probably come to switch alongside Metroid Prime 4 if that ever happens. However, until then this deal on Wii U is very affordable and supports the Wii mote controls which is perfect for any first-person shooter. All three of these games on their own are gems but this is a bundle at twenty dollers which is probably the best price you are going to find for them ever. if you are a Metroid fan or simply a first-person shooter fan, you owe it to yourself to buy this bundle you get three great games with arguably the controls an FPS could have, and at the time of writing this, is the only place to play these three great games.

Two: Almost Any GBA Game

This might be cheating a little bit; however, I feel like there are too many good games to properly list. but again, if you like Metroid then this is the only place to buy and play Metroid Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion. Do you miss F-Zero as much as I do? Well on the Wii U you can find alongside F-Zero x, (which is now on the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion,) you will find F-Zero Maximum Velocity and F-Zero GP Legend. Super Mario Advance 4 not only contains a port of Super Mario Bros 3 but a remastered version of the old Mario Bros arcade also contains all the bonus levels from the failed Game Boy Advance e card reader that didn't even release in Europe. These games are only the tip of the GBA ice burg that will be lost with the Wii U eshop.

Four: Fatal Frame Maden of Black Water and Batman Arkham City Armored Edition

Okay so technically this was released on just about everything else now, but I still stand by that the Wii U version is the superior version. Fatal Frame on the Wii U did the basic thing of having the map on the gamepad if you chose but also it acted as the camera obscura which of course adds another layer immersion when playing the game, also it has bonus Nintendo themed costumes including Zero Suit Samus and Princess Zelda.

Just like above, Batman Arkham City is on pretty much everything except the Switch however, The Wii U version not only has the map on the pad freeing up the TV screen but also makes full use of the of the Gamepad with multiple gadgets altered to makes use of it such as hacking terminals in which you must slide your finger around on the touch screen. this version might just be the definitive version just from all the features and dlc in one package Similarly Amazing Spider-Man ultimate edition falls under the same category. Which is also on the Wii U.

Five: Skylanders Imaginators

This game is on everything else however only the Nintendo versions allow use of Hammer Slam Bowser and Turbo Charge Donkey Kong, two Amiibo/Skylander figures exclusive to the Nintendo systems. However, both figures come with special vehicles that need to be scanned into the game as well and for some reason the portal of power, (the NFT scanner) doesn't work with the Nintendo switch, the Switch instead using the scner on the controller which doesn't work nearly as well on figures and doesn't work on the vehicles, meaning that the Wii U version is the definitive version of this game as well for not only allowing the use of DK and Bowser but also both and all the Skylander vehicles.

Six: Twilight Princess and Wind Waker HD

Both of these games have yet to be released on the Switch, much like the Metroid Prime Trilogy, it probably will however at the time of writing this nether of them have. Both of these games are enhanced versions of thier older selves not just visually but they were both given items and tweaks to make them run smother and reduce annoying sections. Both of these games are great and should be enjoyed by any Zelda fan and right now the Wii U is the only way to play them.

I would highly recommend all of these games on this short list. I could honestly talk about so many more and perhaps I will make a second list and do just that. People tend to act like the Wii U as no good games on it but honestly the Wii U had plenty of great titles especially if you count everything from the virtual console. I loved the Wii U but what about you? are you going to buy any of these games, or have you already played them? please a comment in the section below and vote why not? I'm Wanderin Jim and I hope you all have a super happy day.
