Although not my main source of income, I earn small revenue from playing video games in a form of writing character builds. This article is somehow different. I wrote it just for the sake of sharing my Nintendo switch experience (I lied, I’m also planning to monetize on it, because owning a switch is kinda expensive).
It started out as curiosity about this gaming console and ended up owning one.
This may not be my primary gaming device since I still prefer PC, but I’m absolutely sure that this is my secondary. The switch’s portability allows me to easily bring and play Triple-A games wherever I go.
So what’s on my Switch?
The list of games on my switch is based on my personal preference. Reviewing a game may not be my expertise, but many people has the same gaming preference as mine.
Buy Nintendo Switch
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Owning a switch is not complete without a Nintendo exclusive game.
This is the best open-world action adventure on Switch. It's a masterpiece.
I highly recommend this game.
Buy The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Every RPG gamer knows Skyrim since it’s released in almost every gaming consoles.
Skyrim allows you to become almost anything in the game.
It’s hard to admit, but I only played Skyrim on Nintendo Switch. Yeah I know, I missed a lot of fun stuff in the PC version. Especially the bountiful mods available.
But the best thing about Skyrim on Switch is that you can bring and play it anywhere. I highly recommend this game.
Buy The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Nintendo Switch)
Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition
At first, I wasn’t planning to buy Witcher 3 for Switch because I already have the PC GOG version and I’m not planning to start over again (this game is so long). But since cross-save support was included on patch 3.6 where you can import your saved game from Steam or GOG, I decided to buy a switch copy. This allows me to continue playing my saved game while traveling. Just imagine being Geralt of Rivia on the go.
I highly recommend this game.
Buy Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Nintendo Switch
Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition
I already own a PC Steam copy of this game. But again the cross-save support makes me buy a switch version too. Becoming whoever you wanted to be, while allowing you to bring it wherever you go is so hard to resist.
One of the best role-playing games of all time. I highly recommend this game.
Resident Evil 0
I haven’t played this in the past, so I decided to buy it. The game is ok and RE fans will appreciate it.
Resident Evil HD
I already played the first Resident Evil game but not the remastered one. The first game is already great, but this one makes it scarier.
If you've played the first Resident Evil back in 1996, you should definitely play this one too. The game is highly recommended for those who like to play survival horror.
Resident Evil: Revelations
I haven’t played this in the past as well.
Resident Evil: Revelation series combines the modern action emphasize approach, with survival style limitation of resources.
The game compliments well in a hand-held device like switch.
Resident Evil: Revelations 2
There's nothing special about the main campaign. The greatest strengths of this title is the couch coop Raid mode, where you can play split screen with a friend by just using a single Switch.
Mercenaries Saga Chronicles
The reason I bought this game is because I’m trying to find a game like Final Fantasy Tactics or Ogre Tactics. Mercenaries Saga may not be as good as the games that I mentioned but it's still a good one of its own.
Don’t play this game alone. Play it with friends and you’ll enjoy it a lot.
ACA NEOGEO Metal Slug X
Another game on my switch for couch coop. The good nostalgic feeling when playing this with a friend.
It’s like an old school Resident Evil in medieval japan settings. If you've played this game before which is during PS2 era, it will definitely bring back the nostalgic enjoyment. Just don't expect anything new in the Switch version.
Devil May Cry
It’s like Resident Evil minus the survival horror, plus the action on steroids adventure because you’re the hunter this time and not the hunted.
Devil May Cry 2
Sequel to Devil May Cry, period. I just played this game because I'm the somehow completionist type who wanted to follow the story.
Yes. The game is so bad.
Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition
So far, the best Devil May Cry available on switch. It's a must own game and I highly recommend it.
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remastered
2 great role-playing video games for the price of one. An excellent remastered. I highly recommend this game.
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age
Zodiac Age is a remastered version with added improvements to an already innovative version of Final Fantasy. I highly recommend this game.
Star Ocean First Departure R
I haven’t played this enhanced remake in the past.
Star Ocean First Departure R is an enhanced remake of a very old title. Fans of the series will enjoy playing this.
The spin-off that makes me play a Minecraft game. It’s a dungeon crawler game like Diablo that relies heavily on collecting random loots with random enchantments and level. A formula for Diablo fans to play Minecraft.
Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs – Royal Edition
This game started out as kickstarter project. This game is for those who wanted a JRPG style tactics game. It's a good and enjoyable title.
I personally like to play this game on a portable console. The experience is not as rich as its predecessor, but its character customization provides a fresh perspective to the series.
Diablo 2: Resurrected
Oh my, more than 2 decades had passed and I'm playing Diablo 2 again. This is the same Diablo 2 but with improve graphics and cross progression functionality so that you can bring your game everywhere.
Other games that I wanted on my Switch
I also wanted the titles listed below on my switch. They are really great games, but I already finished them on PC and other gaming consoles. I’m not planning to spend time and money on these titles again, not because I don’t want to play them again, but because of limited time that I have due to my ventures and responsibilities. Plus I don’t want to spend more money playing the same game the I already finished.
Just to clarify, if I can get them for free, then of course, I’ll download them. Because they’re great games.
Resident Evil 4
Played it on PC. Many considered this as the best Resident Evil Game. And I agree with that. I highly recommend this game.
Resident Evil 5
Played it on Playstation 3. I personally like the game’s plot and settings here. Resident Evil 5 is as good as its predecessor. I highly recommend this game.
Resident Evil 6
Played it on Playstation 3. This game is like buying multiple Resident Evil games. Although personally, I only like Leon’s campaign.
It's the biggest game in the franchise. But at the cost of losing a specialty which is one of the franchise's main strength. Overall, it's still an enjoyable game especially for fans who doesn't want to miss the story.
Final Fantasy 7
Played it on Playstation 1. Don't expect anything new on Switch version since it's just a port. But don't get me wrong, it's still one of the best Final Fantasy games. I highly recommend this game.
Final Fantasy 8 Remastered
Played the original version (non-remastered of course) on Playstation One 1. The one on Switch is still the same but with better more polished graphics. It looks really good if you compared it from Playstation 1 version. I highly recommend this game,
Final Fantasy 9
Played it on Playstation 1. It adapted the best of the old Final Fantasy, then make it look new. I highly recommend this game.
Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition
Played it on PC. If you like Dungeons & Dragons style of role-playing game, you will find Pillars of Eternity outstanding in its own right. I highly recommend this game.
Diablo 3: Eternal Collection
I spent hundreds of hours playing this game on PC. Diablo 3 happily messes up my life back then. I'm restraining myself to buy this since the portability of Switch may relive my Diablo 3 addiction.
I highly recommend this game.
The best version of Torchlight so far. Let me clarify, the successor Torchlight 3 is good on its own. But it doesn't come close on how good Torchlight 2 is. The builds and customization that you can do here is superb. Check out my Hubpage profile for a full list of all Torchlight 2 build articles.
I highly recommend this game.
How about accessories?
Another enjoyable experience of having a Nintendo Switch is customizing it with different accessories (if you have some extra cash to spare).
SanDisk Ultra 400GB MicroSDXC UHS-I card
A lot of switch games can only be bought via digital copy. Nintendo Switch internal storage is only 32GB and the only way to store more games is to install a micro SD card.
SanDisk Ultra 400GB MicroSD card is the best value for money in my own opinion. The price is reasonable compared to other models and brands for its specifications and quality. It can store enough games for me until I retire my gaming device. It also supports the maximum read and write speed for switch console.
Buy SanDisk Ultra 400GB MicroSDXC UHS-I card
Blue and Neon Yellow Joycons
I bough extra joycons for 2 reasons. First is I’m playing couch coop games with my loved ones. Second is I want to customize my switch to look slightly different from the standard ones.
Buy Nintendo Blue/ Neon Yellow Joy-Con (L-R) - Switch
Rugged TPU Case
Now we mentioned customization, I cover my switch with rugged TPU case. Aside from it looks badass, it makes my switch durable and ergonomic.
Soft Pouch or Hard Case
I just carry my switch in a soft pouch since I’m already using a rugged case (it's cheaper as well this way). But I don't see any harm if you use hard case for extra protection.
Slim game card case
Most Triple-A switch games that I owned is in physical copy, because switch games are expensive compared to pc and other consoles. In my mind, having a physical copy somehow justifies the expensive price tag of Triple-A games for switch.
Since I’ll be owning some physical copies, organizing it on a card case protects it from scratches and prevents it from accidentally being misplaced.
How about screen protectors?
If you’re careless, I recommend that you use a tempered glass screen protector. I’m not certain about this news, but there are claims that their screen gets some scratches from docking and undocking switch without screen protectors.
