The Top Ten Children's DSi Games
I made quite a successful hub on the Best DSi Games, and yet, some people found that my list did not really include anything suitable for younger children. This may have been a mistake on my part, however it was MY top ten DSi Games, which are the games appealing to my mid-20's mind. On this list I will be compiling the best children's DSi games available on the market today.
When I started bringing together my list of the top ten children's Nintendo DSi games I had to consider many different angles. Ranging from education to entertainment, I scoured the Children's DSi games to bring you the very best Nintendo DS games for children.
Choosing the Right Childrens DSi Game
I will be listing the top ten children's DSi games here in this magnificent selection, however some will be suitable for boys, others, girls, and some will be suitable for both.
Choosing the right DSi Game for your child is not as simple as gender, remember to choose a game which looks suitable for your child's age, and mentality. It is also important to consider exactly what you want out the DSi game. Some are fantastic for improving your children's basic mental skills, others will improve their knowledge on certain aspects of life, and some just entertain. The best Nintendo DSi games for children mix entertainment with knowledge and mental skill building, without overloading the child.
There are thousands of children's Nintendo DS games out there for you to choose from, Making the right decision can not only be time consuming, but downright difficult!
The Top Ten Children's DSi Games
So without further ado, lets start with number ten on our exceptional list of children's DSi games!
Chicken Shoot DSi
10) Chicken Shoot
To start off my list of the top ten children's DSi games, I will be going for pure entertainment.
Chicken shoot is a great DSi game, which I even find slightly addictive myself. If you are looking for something to keep the kids quite (this is primarily a boys dsi game) then Chicken Shoot for the DSi will keep your children occupied at home, or on the move.
With several different game modes, scenarios, and 2-4 player co-operative modes, chicken shoot is a great childrens dsi game!
Chicken shoot DSi brings together a highly humorous cartoon based quick shooter, while it is mostly for entertainment it is also a great way to improve your child's reflexes with the Nintendo DSi!
Barbie Island Princess for the Nintendo DS
9) Barbie - Island Princess
Barbie - Island Princess is a great way to keep your daughter occupied with this great girls DSi game. This game incorporates quite a few puzzles to keep your child thinking, while at the same time boasting an impressive musical score and cute characters. This compelling blend makes Barbie - Island Princess one of the best girls DSi games on the market today.
Barbie Island Princess for the Nintendo DSi has a heartwarming story which is exceptionally well told in this adventure game for girls. The only downside is that after this has been completed two or three times it does lose re-playability value, a common problem with adventure games. I would not worry about this too much though, as this game will take a long time for your daughter to work through, even if she stays with her eyes glued to her DSi.
Playmobil Pirates on Nintendo DS
8) Playmobil Pirates and Knights on the DSi
While this is technically two games, both Playmobil Pirates and Playmobil Knights are some of the best children's DSi games to be released this Christmas (2009) They both have simple gameplay yet intricate plots to keep you interested!
The Playmobil brand has been taken from its inception as a hands on toy, to one of the leading portable DSi Childrens games. I have to admit I have spent more than a few hours on my old DS with the previous games from Playmobil at a friends house.
In Playmobil Knights for the DSi you go from a humble farmer to the weilder of magical weapons and controller of dragons.
Playmobil Pirates seems to aim for slightly older children on the DSi, with more complex gameplay, mini missions, ship upgrades, trading and more!
Both of these games make great children's gifts, and easily make it in to my top ten childrens DSi games!
Remember though, buy these games for your children and you may not hear a peep from them for weeks, these Children's DSi games can be addictive!
Pony Luv on DSi
7) Pony Luv on the DSi
For the young girls in your life who are pestering you for a pet, get them a Pony!
While this great girls DSi game may not be as good as a real Pony, your daughter will love this top DSi game. in Pony Luv DS you can raise your pony, enter it in shows, races and competitions, and eventually get your pony to the top dog spot.
While this is not personally my cup of tea, these pet care games are generally a great way to keep the youngsters entertained, and maybe they will learn a thing or two in the process!
Harry Potter DSi
6) Harry Potter - Years 1 to 4
While I am not usually a fan of games ripped from films, I was pleasantly surprised by the demo of Harry Potter for the DSi (The full game can be pre-ordered for Christmas with the Amazon Price Guarantee!). The Harry Potter game for the DSi boasts a long, humorous story line, regular plot twists and lovable characters.
While magic and wizards may not be every child's cup of tea, Harry Potter for the DSi will delight any child, boy or girl, who follows the wizards story. With it's enchanting play style and cut-scenes, not to mention graphics that really show the power of the DSi, Harry Potter is one of the great DSi games to add to your collection.
Looney Tunes DSi
5) Looney Tunes Cartoon Conductor
I have to admit being rather biased in this choice, I loved the Looney Tunes characters when I was little, and still love them to this day. Never the less, the Looney Tunes Cartoon Conductor is a great addictive game for your kids, mixing cartoon fun with musical mayhem to endear your children to one of the greatest artistic genres.
While Looney Tunes Cartoon Conductor (Also known as looney Tunes Cartoon Concerto) is a brilliant DS and DSi game, it does not fit all children, some do find it rather tedious or boring, fortunately once the kids have gone to bed you can give it a go too!
New Super Mario Bros. DSi
4) New Super Mario Bros.
The New Super Mario brothers game for the DSi might not be that new anymore, but it is an amazing game that any child will love. It's simple yet addictive gameplay shoots the new super mario bros. towards the top of my children's DSi games list.
New Super Mario Bros. DSi is a great game where you will have to stomp your way towards the end of the game. It also includes a whole raft of power-ups to help you complete the game with style.
This is one of my all time favorite DSi games, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for some pick up and play fun!
Th!nk Logic Trainer - Kids
3) Th!nk Logic Brain Trainer for Kids
I have always been a fan of brain trainer DSi games, and this is no exception. Think Logic Brain Trainer for Kids is a great children's brain trainer. In fact Th!nk Logic Brain Trainer for Kids is one of the only children's brain trainers available on the Nintendo DSi.
Brain Trainers are very important to help young children's minds grow, especially with all the distractions in today's modern world. Since Th!nk Logic Children's Brain Trainer for kids is targeted just at children they will not feel overawed by any function of the Brain Training DSi game
Think Logic Trainer for kids is a great way to keep your children occupied, and increase their mental skills, all in one cheap package!
Pokemon SoulSilver DSi
2) Pokemon SoulSilver DSi
Pokemon SoulSilver is the latest in the Pokemon series, and promises to offer a huge range of multi-player options as well as new Pokemon and regions.
While I have used Pokemon Soul Silver in my top ten children's DSi games list, Pokemon Platinum, or any other Pokemon game, are equally entertaining to any young person!
Pokemon offers unlimited gameplay, with hundreds of Pokemon to catch, and millions of tactics to help build a team which will defeat any other Pokemon player.
While Pokemon is not a new game, but it is definately an easy game to pick up, and can be played by any age group. This is a game that you should definately own, for yourself and your children!
You can find more about Pokemon on this great Article Directory!
Learn Science, Learn Maths, Learn Geography, Learn More!
1) The Learn Series on DSI
The Learn Series on the DSi covers topics from Maths and science to geography. With the Learn series your child can use the Nintendo DSi to rapidly learn about the world around them. With an inbuilt age checker the learn series will provide hours of entertainment and education!
I have placed the Learn games on the DSi at the number one spot on my list because they are educational, fun and tailored for whichever age group you need. These amazing educational tools will help boost your child through education, no matter what their age!
If you are looking for the perfect educational DSi game then you can get no better than the learn series educational Nintendo DS games!

I have 7 year old twin boys and they love Kirby, Mario and Luigi Inside Bowser, Mario Kart, and scribblenauts. There is no way they would play a learning game. They are "educated" all day at school.

Thanks for your respond.
Yes, it did work no problem :-)
What happened to me in the past was probably it was a Japanese DS game with using a scanner(to learn Japanese writing) and DSi didn't have that scanner connecting part, but original DS has.
Thanks a lot again.

as far as I was aware all DS Games were DSi Compatible, did you try haveing the game exchanged for a new copy, it might be defective!
All the Nintendo DS games on this hub are definitely DSi compatible.
lucy on December 20, 2010:
Please help me out! My daughter has a DSi, but in the past I had made a mistake of buying a game which wasn't playable on DSi(only for DS) I just bought Pony Life and there isn't any sign of usable for DS or Dsi... do you know if this is okay for DSi? Thanks a lot.

We exchanged gifts early because of holiday travel, and my 8yo has been playing Scribblenauts non-stop since he opened it. He's spelling and using his imagination. I'd recommend it!

Hi, we are having a really hard time working out the Barbie Island Princess mini game, Queen's Bouguet. Everytime my daughter tries to finish the game, Barbie pipes up, "No, that's not the one"! It is driving us all mad!!! I can't find any detailed instructions anywhere. Can anyone help? email@example.com
jen on December 06, 2010:
Try Dora for your 6yo, mostly talking, no reading, also I can do it mum or any of the barbie games
Ls on December 05, 2010:
My 6y.o. Daughter is just learning to read, and the barbie game has way too much reading for her to be able to enjoy. Which games for girls dont have too much reading??
kasi on November 23, 2010:
I think this is a great list. Kids learn best while they are having fun and all of these games look fun AND educational. Learning becomes less fun when it is forced and irrelevant. Good job on the list!

I am going to buy my cousin a horse game so thank u very much.

Well, my 9 month old is obsessed with pressing my DS screen while Im playing it, which I can tell you is REALLY annoying. So I got Electroplankton so she can sit on my knee and touch the screen to her hearts content. Bright moving pictures + music = Epic Win and no more f***ing up mummys games.
jonathan on December 07, 2009:
oh just one more thing not a pokemon fan get super mario 64 ds its awsome lots of levels and lots more the only bad thing is that once the game is done its done nothing new so i would get it for my child but if they like games that last awhile get them something like pokemon
jonathan on December 07, 2009:
pokemon is a great game to play from 6 year olds to even 20 year olds we all love it oh but one thing to remember pokemon heart gold and soul silver arent out yet we dont even know what day they will be released excecpt it will be in spring 2010 (unless you want to play the old version for the game boy color) but for a christmas presant the kids will love pokemon platinum diamond or pearl but in the spring pokemon hg or ss will be a must in the pokemon gaming
Catherine on December 06, 2009:
I wish there some age ranges included in the reviews. As you pointed out in the first few paragraphs, age appropriate is a must.
Dread348 on December 04, 2009:
good list :)

Maybe you are right, the learn series is fun and interactive as well as educational, and has been highly recommended.
I do take your point though, maybe I should have placed the Lego games in the top children's nintendo ds games spot, even I find those fun!
wow... on November 27, 2009:
honestly these really aren't the best games for kids in my opinion. kids dont like to learn, they want a game that's interactive, fun, and makes them forget about their problems and through my point of view these aren't those kinds of games. these games make you learn!!! kids dont want to learn in games, they want to have fun!!!

What accessories would you recommend for a seven year-old with a DSi? Is a guard something that protects the DSi?
