The Sims 3 - The fortune teller career

How to become a fortune teller

To become a fortune teller, you have to click the Gypsy Wagon and you will be given the option to join the fortune teller career.

Finding the Gypsy wagon
The Gypsy wagon is added to the game with the "Supernatural" expansion pack. The world that comes with the expansion pack, Moonlight Falles, has the lot with the Gypsy Wagon, but with any other world you have to add it to the town manually. To do this go to "Edit town", and then find a suitable community lot (does not have to be big) and edit the lot. Within the lot, go to the Build mode and find the Gypsy wagon there and add it to the lot.

Traits and skills

To be able to get promotions and advance in this career easier, it is wise to choose certain traits and skills for your Sim. Most of these traits and skills are needed for the Psychic path rather than the Scam artist path (to choose once you reach level 5)

  • Charismatic: making friends is important to advance in the career (Psychic path).
  • Friendly: again, good for making friends quickly (Psychic path)

  • Charisma: in this career you have to interact with Sims a lot, as in and outside of working hours you have to perform readings on the Sims. Also for this career you will have to make lots of friends. The charisma trait is a handy trait as it can help you to make friends and to have Sims trust you (and your readings). (mostly for the Psychic path)

Basic promotion levels

The first 5 levels are the same in the career and mostly involve performing hand readings on Sims (available from level 2 promotion) and attending to normal working hours (inside the gypsy wagon). You will be paid for your regular working hours but also for the private readings you do on Sims. The working hours are short (you start in the afternoon and work until early night), which gives you time to ask Sims to do private hand readings.

Level 1 - Horoscope reader - Salary 68 Simoleons
Level 2 - Prediction guesser - 120 Simoleons
Level 3 - Vague visionary - 200 Simoleons
Level 4 - Hand reader - 228 Simoleons
Level 5 - Metaphysical predictor - 288 Simoleons

After level 5 you have to choose between two different paths:

  • Psychic
  • Scam artist

The Phsychic / mystical path

Of the two paths you can choose, this path requires both a lot of friends and the alchemy skill needs improvent. Funny enough, this path does not pay more in the end and the working hours are the same in any of the two paths you choose. The only advantage of this path is that you will obtain a 20% discount in the potion shop.

Level 6 - Performing cheap tricks - 378 Simoleons
Level 7 - Spiritual guide - 400 Simoleons
Level 8 - Traveler in space and time - 590 Simoleons
Level 9 - Handing out faiths - 828 Simoleons
Level 10 - Master of the Mystical - 1800 Simoleons

The scam artist path

This path brings you to the less honest side of life, namely scamming Sims by making them believe your readings. With this path you will not need any friends to advance in your career (after all who wants to be friends with a scam artist, right?).

Level 6 - Tarot card handler - 375 Simoleons
Level 7 - Observer of human behaviour - 650 Simoleons
Level 8 - Fake phsychic - 960 Simoleons
Level 9 - Meta psychic - 1524 Simoleons
Level 10 - Famous psychic - 2304 Simoleons

Hand readings

Hand readings (or rather face readings) can be performed on any Sim when you reach level 2 in the fortune teller career. Per Sim you can only perform a hand reading once per 8 hours. What you earn per reading is very much depending on whether the Sim thinks it is a bad reading (15 Simoleons) or a great reading (150 Simoleons). Even in the higher levels in the career you will still have a 60% chance that the reading is seen as a bad one. Start doing the readings early on as in the later levels of the career (in both paths) you will need a lot before advancing to the next level.
