Theme and Key Cards

Since King Macar's inspired ability can put away creatures, our main theme for this deck is control. In this case, we need to maximize the inspired ability by having King Macar tapped and untapped. It will be useful then for our commander to be able to attack each turn without the threat of being killed by a blocker, and nothing does it better than the land Maze of Ith. This piece of land removes our commander from combat, untaps it, allows us to exile a creature, then grants us gold.

Another way is to use our commander as an attacker each turn but protecting him by using an equipment such as Sword of Feast and Famine, which gives our creature protection from certain colors and gives us extra benefits upon dealing damage to an opponent.

When it comes to tapping creatures, the classic card Icy Manipulator always come to mind. Use it to tap King Macar or as a defensive tool for your opponents' creatures, artifacts and lands as well. Pacification Array is also an excellent choice.

Lands like Holdout Settlement and Survivors' Encampment both allows us to tap King Macar when tapping for mana. While the legendary land Shizo ,Death's Storehouse gives us a potential unblockable legendary creature.

Card Removal

While King Macar can be used as a creature spot removal, it is always good to have some cards like Damnation and Toxic Deluge to eliminate those melees.

Black always lack removal spells for other permanents thus we fill-in the empty space by using All is Dust, Karn Liberated and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon.

When playing black control decks, it is always useful to discard your opponents' hands. And we might just do it once anyways with the legendary creature Myojin of Night's Reach.

Control

The theme of our deck is control, and the cards that we will use should be in synergy with our commander and the key cards. We are not only tapping King Macar here as we choose to use Icy Manipulator and Pacification Array for better purposes.

Yes, we intend to control the game by limiting down our opponents' untap steps with Winter Orb and Static Orb, then tapping these artifacts before our turn to remove their effects. We can even utilize our Sword of Feast and Famine to untap our lands or use Blinkmoth Well.

With our deck needing no other mana colors except black, the game will be at our advantage with the enchantment Contamination, locking your opponents mana-producing lands. Some players do not rely mostly on lands for mana so we will come prepared with Gate to Phyrexia to remove those mana-producing artifacts.

Fuel and Engine

To keep this deck running, we will be needing card draw advantage. We will be including some of the best artifacts and black cards for that purpose. Necropotence, Phyrexian Arena, Graveborn Muse are so far the best black draw engines.

We will also be adding Skullclamp and use cards that can fuel it as well as other cards in the deck. Bitterblossom and Ophiomancer are great for generating creature tokens each turn to feed Contamination and Gate to Phyrexia. Or exile those creature tokens with King Macar for gold in case we need extra mana.

Support

Your opponents will find ways to prevent King Macar from exiling their creatures, one way is sacrificing them. Keep them exiled by using cards like the enchantment Leyline of the Void and the legendary vampire Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet.

Combos

This deck does not rely on combos to win but will find it useful to have one or two in case the game calls for it. Since the deck is composed of plenty of artifacts, not to mention those gold tokens, a good combo to have would be centered with the creature Marionette Master. Pump it up with Hatred and sacrifice those gold tokens for the kill.

Or use it with the classic combo Ashnod's Altar and Nim Deathmantle to infinitely suck opponents' life.

In this case, we can still have the original version of the combo with Grave Titan for infinite zombie tokens and infinite colorless mana. Then we will be adding these cards to make that mana useful.

Another classic combo we can incorporate is Basalt Monolith and Rings of Brighthearth in case we can't get enough of infinite colorless mana.

Weaknesses

Plenty of cards in this deck can cause you to lose life and could be lethal as the game goes on if not given remedy. That's why we have included some utility cards to keep us breathing.

Spells like Shatterstorm and Seeds of Innocence could really ruin this deck, that's why we've added cards like Beacon of Unrest and Buried Ruin to revive those artifacts.

Strategy

The earlier King Macar is on the battlefield, the better. That is why we've loaded this deck with plenty of mana-producing artifacts for our commander to be out on second turn, or first if lucky enough. Our opponents' commanders might prefer to stay in the command zone in this case. With tons of equipment in this deck, King Macar could become a Voltron and can deal lethal commander damage. Or equip those swords to Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon or Inkmoth Nexus for infect.

And of course, the best part of playing Black is having access to Demonic Tutor and Vampiric Tutor. Use them early for that Mana Crypt or for that missing combo piece late in the game.
