Rare and Collectable 50p Coins
Some Collectable 50p Coins
Rare Coin Collector
Loose change is just what it is and unless you have lots of it around it does not equate to much in the whole scheme of things.
Sometimes though that loose change that you have rattling around in your pocket or in the bottom of your purse can be worth a small fortune if you know what to look out for.
Some coins are extremely rare and are desperately sought after by collectors who will pay a lot of money to get their hands on them and others which you think may be rare are actually widely circulated and only worth the value of the coin.
I myself collect coins, mainly the British 50p or fifty pence coin, and although I have never spent a lot on them. I have been very lucky to get a hold of the rarest and most sought after 50 pence coin available and have added it to my growing collection.
The value of the coin doesn't really mean much to me to be honest, I just love the thrill of finding a new coin that I do not already have in my collection.

How Much Is My 50p Worth?
How much is my 50p worth? This is the most asked question on collectors groups on Facebook and the honest answer is that your coin is worth just as much as someone is willing to pay for it.
But if you really want to know the value of your coin, the easiest way to find out is to check listings of it on Ebay, set filter to sold and you will get the average price a coin has been sold for, that will give you a rough idea of what people at that time are willing to pay for your coin.
In most cases though, collecting 50p coins will not make you rich unless you are already rich and have a massive collection.
Of course not every 50p coin is rare or worth more than the face value of the coin but some can net you a good few bucks.
There are a few factors that are taken into consideration when valuing your coin.
Condition: A collector will pay more for a coin that is in perfect condition rather than a coin that has been through the mill, run over by a bus or train or has passed through many hands and has some damage.
Rarity: In most cases the rarer the coin the more it is worth although it is worth noting that this is not always the case.
Popularity: Some coins are worth more simply because they have a design that is popular with collectors.
Themed Sets: Some coins are part of a set of coins a collector will pay more for a full set of coins or for a single coin that will help them to complete a set. for example in 2011 the royal mint issued a set of 29, 50p coins to celebrate London hosting the Olympics in 2012 they also produced a completers medallion for people who collected the whole set. the whole set including the medallion can sell for up to £150.
Error coins: Sometimes during production there will be some coins that have errors or mistakes made by the machinary or even man made errors, finding an error coin can raise the value considerably.

Rare 50p Coins
Although some 50p coins are rarer, the 2009 Kew Gardens Fifty pence is the most sought after by most collectors and those collectors are willing to pay anywhere between £130.00 AND £200.00 depending on the condition of your coin.
There are some coins that are rarer than the Kew Gardens but the collectors who have those like to keep them and they very rarely come up for sale.
Sadly those coins are way out of my budget and unless I find them by chance in my change I am afraid I will never get to see one, never mind own one of them.
