I'm an entrepreneur with a variety of interests that range from comics to anime.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin was showcased back in June during the Square Enix E3 showcase. Despite the meme worthy aspect, I thought it showed some promise, but I felt like I needed to see more to see if this would be worth while.
And on January 25th 2022, Playstation uploaded a gameplay features video on their Youtube channel. Now let’s get into those details, and see if it’ll be a worthwhile game.
The game entails the journey of Jack, Jed, Ash, Neon, and Sophia, as they seek to restore peace to the kingdom of Cornilia by defeating the darkness consuming the world. And the combat feels like Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry. Especially when you destroy some enemies by depleting their break gauge. You have an ability to knock away numerous enemies when overwhelmed called “light bringer, which is one of the command abilities at your disposal. Another ability is “soul shield,” which allows to block enemy attacks, and then use them against your enemy.
Then there’s jobs and customizations. These “jobs” are akin to a “class system” as you start as a swordsman, and unlock other jobs as you level up like “lancer,” “ronin,” “duelist,”(which is duel wielding swords), mage, sword fighter, marauder, and pugilist. You can be more than one class, and switch up on a dime to keep the advantage in a fight, which scream Devil May Cry, and God of War. And ain’t nothin’ wrong wit’ dat. Another similarity to the aforementioned action has n’ slashers is that you can customize each “job,” with strengthening weapons, and customizing unlocked attacks and spells. And like any Final Fantasy, you do this customization in a “job tree.”
You can also gear up with equipment left behind by your fallen enemies, and discover chests full of loot that with help empower your favorite play style. This will also have multi-player, as you can team up with different leveled players, much like an MMO. And if I gauged the trailer correctly the multiplayer is up to three players.
When it came to the E3, this game looked decent, but nothing too spectacular. After seeing that gameplay features video, this looks worth while. And while I’ll be looking to get this, no doubt it’ll generate many memes for the Final Fantasy community.
Strangers of Paradise:Final Fantasy Origin will drop March 18th for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC March 18th 2022. And I’m looking forward to it.
