Shopping Street Strategy

"Shopping Street" is a free online flash game at Kongregate.com. It's like a tower defense game but instead of killing things you set up stores and collect money from customers. This general strategy shows you how to beat the game in case you're stumped. It is not the be-all end-all strategy, but it will get the job done.

How to Beat Shopping Street

Note: Since the levels get harder, this is for the higher levels where each building type is allowed. You can beat the last levels of New York with this strategy.

This game is pretty straightforward. The customers enter the left side of the screen and exit the right side. They each have a certain supply of money and your goal is to get as much of their money as possible. You do this by setting up shops. They will enter all shops that they approach provided it isn't already full of customers.

To me it seems the best strategy is to place the shops that have the fastest turnover (how long a customer stays in each shop), the highest prices (how much money you receive from each customer), and the highest capacity (how many customers the shop will hold) furthest to the left. Since each customer has a limited supply of cash, we want to take their money as quickly as we can and make room for more customers.

Here is the order that I place the stores, from left to right.

  1. Electronics store
  2. Market
  3. Jewelry shop
  4. Furniture store
  5. Pet shop
  6. Boutique
  7. Toy Store
  8. Restaurant

Since you can't purchase these stores in order, here is my general strategy.

Build pet shop and bench

Build pet shop and bench

Step 1- Build pet shop

First, set up a pet shop 5th place from the left and put a bench in front of it. The bench is cheap and stalls some of your customers.

Build a boutique and toy store, upgrade all three buildings

Build a boutique and toy store, upgrade all three buildings

Step 2- Build boutique, toy store

Now build a boutique and a toy store, from left to right. It shouldn't really matter the order that you build or upgrade. Once you have these three buildings, your next priority is to build an electronics store. I don't really have a set strategy for building newsstands, benches, advertisements, etc. I don't think they make a huge difference, so I just kind of mix and match. If you want, just copy what I did in these images.

Bus stop- I usually add the bus stop around day 8 or 9. This should be a priority once you can handle more customers.

Build electronics store

Build electronics store

Step 3- Build electronics store

Build an electronics store.  Your goal is to build and upgrade both your electronics store and a market. I've added a jewelry store.

shopping-street-strategy

Step 4- Build Market, Upgrade max

Get your supermarket in as soon as you can and upgrade the electronics store and market before upgrading the other buildings. I've added a restaurant here, but you don't have to as it's pretty much worthless.

Max the rest, you're done

Max the rest, you're done

Step 5- Upgrade maximum additional buildings

You're on easy street now. As you get the cash, just upgrade the rest of your buildings to the maximum, the restaurant being your lowest priority. And that's it. Wait for the last day, and you should be able to beat any of the last levels.

Above is an unofficial list of the buildings to help you determine which upgrades to make. The "VERY SLOW", "SLOW", "FAST", and "VERY FAST" are based only on observation.

And that's about it. Like I said, none of this is written in stone, so if you've got a better strategy, let us know in the comment section. If you enjoyed this post, you might also enjoy how to beat Pillage the Village. Thanks for reading.

help please i need level eleven its been a month and i still can beat it

Joe (author) from Pennsylvania, USA on June 03, 2013:

Woah, thanks Tuxter. That was dumb of me to go to the trouble of making the graphic without actually timing the speeds. Way to calculate the $ per second, too, thanks!

Tuxter on June 03, 2013:

I think the estimated speed of the Buildings need to be corrected.

I made the following observations with max. lvl buildings:

Food: 10 sec. and $49 = $4,9 pr. sec.

Jewelry: 8 sec. and $140 = $17,5 pr. sec.

Market: 8 sec. and $300 = $37,5 pr. sec.

Furniture: 5 sec. and $200 = $40 pr. sec.

Electronic: 4 sec. and $160 = $40 pr. sec.

Toy Store: 2 sec. and $80 = $40 pr. sec.

Butique: 2 sec. and $100 = $50 pr. sec.

Pet Shop: 2 sec. and $149 = $74,5 pr. sec.

Upgrading Pet Shop over Butique should be the best Investment.

This is only looking at time vs. Money. The number of people in the Buildings is important when it comes to the flow of the game, for instance fully upgraded Food and Jewelry has a longer shopping time than their capacity. Therefore not following the flow of the people (these Buildings should not be placed where you want to make Money of alle the people) Placing Food at slot 1 will delay some people when getting the busload. Placing Jewelry at slot 8 will drain Money from the few people WHO hasn't spent them all in the other shops.

I am so stuck on level nine. Any strategies?

Netnewsnow on May 31, 2011:

Confirmed, finished last level day 30 without restaurant.

Netnewsnow on May 31, 2011:

Okay, I finally made it past day 3, 3 times 1000$ bonus, here goes

Day 1

Pet shop stop 7 with bench

Get newspaper ready and start, let 10 shoppers go by and put newspaper at spot 5 on 11`th shopper

1000$ bonus

Day 2

I put the boutique on top of newspaper and that's it

1000$ bonus

Day 3

Now this was the hard one, still don't know how much wiggle room can be used but what must be done is this...

Every shopper must go in the boutique to get drained of their money when they go to the pet shop, if they don't, even if pet shop gets everybody, no bonus since they still have money

So I used spot 2 to put a bench after the 4th shopper, then music on spot 3 after another 4 shoppers, then a newspaper stand on spot 4 after another 4 shoppers, and bam, 1000$ bonus on day 3!!!!!

Day 4

On day 4 I gave up perfection and just bought a bus stop once all shoppers are gone.

Please give it a try and let me know if you guys can make it also and if you do figure something better out.

PS: did the how game now and restaurant is worthless any way you put it...

Upgrade as soon as possible or buy buildings, don't wait for another higher upgrade unless is withing reach or you will loose too many shoppers early on.

At about day 16 or so I always get my bonus and at that point the game is pretty much over, just upgrade and buy, no order seem to be better.

Lee nice on November 19, 2010:

nice idea

for my order i like to put all my shit worthless buildings at the end.

and leave the best ones at the beginning

so i put electro frist, than furniture, than market, jewlery, pet shop, boutique, toystore and resteraunt.

this is because when the market is at the highest level with electro and furniture also, the people spend all their money than leave. so really you just need the other ones for the beginning

Lee on November 19, 2010:

none of you guys posted the ultimate build order, i found a build order that can get you 2 "bonus $1000" in 1 day ! and it's not a cheat or hack.

day 1: pet + newspaper at 5th spot

day 2: boutique + bench at 4th spot

day 3: don't build

day 4: upgrade boutique

day 5: upgrade pet

DAY 6: at the end where all the customers are leaving, you JUST have enough $5000 to build a bus stop, at that point you will get the "bonus $1000" first, and then the bus arrives and drops off more customers, when they finish, you get another "bonus $1000" again for all customer satisfaction. Extra $2000 at day 6 just made your game a whole lot easier.

asdhashdsa on November 19, 2010:

I noticed that you can just set up the pet shop in the beginning alone and you will get exactly 2500 to buy boutique, so that's what i usually do.

i set up the pet shop on the 5th spot

Kyle on November 18, 2010:

I put news papers in every spot because

1. they hold more people than benches (i think the advertisements too)

2. They give you $5 every time someone buys one.

i never used advertisement i thought it was stupid.

i usually get full newspapers by day 10 or 11.

Oops, sorry, *level, not lever, aww. xD

Lolo-x on February 04, 2010:

MTF, I do exactly the same thing with the restaurant. :) I think this is what the Restaurant is meant for : slow down the customers to permitt to a higher number of them to enter the shops that sell expensive things. But I tried something lately, and it worked well : putting the Market very first. Because it's huge, a whole bunch of people can get in it. And, what is great about the Market is that its capacity doubles when you upgrade it, so you can make a lot more money quicker. After the market, put the restaurant ; it will slow down people and allow them to go to those big slow and expensive shops once the others have left. After the restaurant, the big slow expensive shops, and at the end, the Petshop and Boutique, because they're the cheapest.

Hope this will help you folks, good luck ! :) I still ain't finished yet, I'm at level 11, and I didn't miss any lever yet. :D But this is probably just luck... Anyway, thanx everyone for the advices !

JL on February 01, 2010:

Thanks so much this really helped! Another trick is sometimes if you wait until the day is almost over and there are only a few costumers left the you add the bus stop and the bus comes infinite times in one day. It really helped me on some of the hardest levels but sometimes takes a long time to trigger.

king_saberhawk on December 07, 2009:

I came across your hub and decided to check the game out. One of the better fun Ive come across online. Ive been playing the last few days, thanks :)

Thankful on November 14, 2009:

Thanks for the guide. I beat the game with it. I was stuck at level 13 but with your guide i could beat all remaining levels.

MFT on October 10, 2009:

Good plans, thanks for the guide. I've beaten the game, and oddly enough I find I have the best luck with the left-to-right order almost exactly reversed- that way, the very cheap, very slow restaurant acts to stall a large number of customers for the slower, more expensive stores. After all, it isn't a big deal if customers miss out on the cheap dinner if they pay for the expensive items.

pookie on October 03, 2009:

I tried your strategy, I was on lvl 11 with 96%...yeah, close, but I have yet to still beat the level.

Joe (author) from Pennsylvania, USA on September 25, 2009:

Oh sweet, thanks Nate. If anyone's not sure what he means by "in front of it" he means place the 2 newspaper racks directly underneath the pet shop. That's a much better starting strategy than mine above.

Nate T on September 25, 2009:

If you build a pet shop and put two newspaper racks in front of it you will get a $1000 bonus on days 1 and 2. The extra cash allows you to build a boutique, third newspaper rack and three music ads on day 3 if you're fast. From there build/upgrade whatever is cheapest until you can afford the market. I put it right in front and upgrade it to the max since it holds tons of people and gets tons of cash right away
