Generally speaking, the Paladin job are for those who wants to be the first to attack and the last to stand in the battlefield. But of course, this job is not limited to tanking alone. It also has variety of skills that can deal tons of damage to its enemies.

Skills

Swordsman Skills

Bash – Deals heavy damage to single enemy with a chance to stun your target at higher skill level.

Magnum Break – This is your only AOE damage skill until you become a Paladin. Magnum Break is also a free source of converting your attack into fire.

Taunt – Taunt is the most important skill if your playing as a tank. The skill will force the enemies to attack your character so that they won’t attack the main damage dealers in the party.

Endure – There are 2 primary functions of this skill. First one is it prevents your character from pausing or being push back when attacked. The second one is for increasing MDEF.

Sword Mastery – Passively increases your atk when using a sword.

Increase Recuperative Power – Passive increases your recovery rate.

Crusader Skills

Heal – Replenishes the health of you and your party. The healing power is base on your int and level.

Holy Cross – Deals heavy holy damage on a single enemy. The skill also has chance to blind your target. You should take note that a spear type weapon should be used in order to get the full damage of Holy Cross.

Shield Charge – A short range shield attack that has chance to stun your target.

Shield Chain – The bread and butter skills of Crusader. Shield Chain can deal heavy damage to single target in range.

Auto Guard – This is your primary defensive skill. At level 10 Auto Guard has 50% chance to block damage. Even your not playing as a tank. This skill provides excellent defensive capability.

Devotion – An important skill for tank build. This will let you protect a party member by transferring all the damage that they will receive to your character.

Spear Mastery – Passively increases your atk when using a spear.

Spear Quicken – A must have skill for agi crit build. Spear Quicken not only increases your attack speed when using a spear. It also increases crit chance and flee. At breakthrough, the skill can also increase auto attack at massive amount.

Cavalry Combat – Recommended when using mount to avoid the attack speed reduction penalty.

Cavalry Mastery – Grants increase damage to large size enemies. FYI majority of bosses are large type of monsters.

Divine Protection – Passively increases your defense especially against undead and devil monsters.

Paladin Skills

Grand Cross – Deals massive AOE holy damage at cost of some percentage of your life.

Providence – Greatly increases the whole party’s defense again demon and holy damage. Providence also increases the damage of both Holy Cross and Grand Cross.

Retribution – Passively increases your atk and the damage you deal against undead and devil monsters.

Defensive Aura – When cast, takes less damage from range physical auto attacks at cost of movement speed and attack speed. Works well against archer type enemies.

Shield Boomerang – Deals powerful long range damage to your target. The catch of this skill is its longer cooldown.

Selfless Shield – Greatly reduce the damage received of the whole party. Take note that the caster is not included on the damage reduction.

Reflect Shield – Returns some portion of melee atk received.

Sacrifice – Sacrifice some portion of your HP to make your auto attack deal heavy damage that ignores both flee and defense. This skill is very effective on PVP.

Bliss – Passively increases vit and healing received.

Speed Level

Below are my recommended build from Novice to Crusader. It focuses on dealing as much damage as possible to enemies so that you can efficiently use your limited combat time to level up quickly.

Novice speed level build guide

Put all stat on str for maximum damage since you will only rely on your basic atttack.

Swordsman speed level build guide

Assume that you took the growth pack bag which gives you a sword that is better than the commonly looted weapons. Your primary damage dealer here is Magnum Break and you should grind on monsters that is weak to fire such as undead and earth element.

Skills:

Bash 5

Magnum Break 10

Sword Mastery 10

Increase Recuperative Power 10

Taunt 5

Stats:

Str – Put everything here.

Dex – Minimum of 30.

Crusader speed level build guide

Shield Chain will be your primary damage dealer for this build. The skill itself is really strong against single target enemies which maximizes your combat time.

At this rate it is better to equip a spear so that you’ll get higher atk from Spear Mastery. And make sure that your minimum dex is 60 so that you won’t have any casting time on Shield Chain.

Skills:

Shield Charge 3

Shield Chain 10

Cavalry Combat 5

Spear Mastery 10

Cavalry Mastery 5

1 Devotion

6 Divine Protection

Stats:

Str – Put everything here.

Dex – Minimum of 60 for no cast Shield Chain.

How to solve your SP problems?

Majority of the builds in this article are sp hungry since it relies heavily on skills to deal damage. Your primary source of sp here are not from potions, but from stocking up large amount of sp by eating meals. Below are the two things that you need to do, so that you’ll have a bountiful amount of sp.

1. Consume Warm Meal or Hot Meal

Both of these items can easily be bought on Food Shop. Consuming these meals grants you some hp and sp reserve

You can have 1 free Warm Meal everyday and 1 free Hot Meal as an option if you’re a premium player.

2. Consume cooked meals

One of the important things that you need to learn in Ragnarok M is cooking. Eating Cooked meals not only grants you stat bonuses but also fills up your discharge hp and sp. Discharge are like auto potions that is in reserve, it will automatically be used when your low on hp or sp.

Note: hp and sp that is in discharge will never expire. So the don’t hesitate to stock up as much hp and sp as you can.

Shield Chain build

Shield Chain build is considered as the most popular and versatile build for Paladin. The build works well on both grinding and PVP.

The downside of this build is that the skill Shield Chain consumes a lot of SP. Not to mention that Mirror Shield also makes it more SP hungry. So make sure you store a lot of SP discharge in your pool.

Shield Boomerang build

A tank build that can deal powerful single target damage via Shield Boomerang.

The known downside of this build is the Shield Boomerang’s 4 second cooldown and low hit rate. So during PVP, use Shield Charge to stun your hard to hit target first. For grinding, it is recommended that you grind on monsters that you can 1 hit kill with Shield Boomerang.

Grand Cross / Holy Cross build

If you’re trying to find a build that specialize in vanishing evil, then this is the one that you’re looking for. A caster type paladin that can deal huge holy area damage.

Sacrifice build

This is one of the best builds for PVP because you won’t be needing expensive equipment in order to dominate your opponents. What this build lacks is grinding capability so as much as I highly recommend this build for PVP, I don’t suggest that you use this for leveling up and farming.
