Magic The Gathering: 10 of the Best Green Common Cards of All Time
I have been playing Magic: The Gathering since 1994 and have won a few draft tournaments in MTGO and MTG Arena.
Llanowar Elves
It has one power and one toughness.
You can tap it to produce one green mana.
Llanowar Elves has been a popular and widely used card since the dawn of Magic.
It helps you accelerate your mana production quickly so you can summon larger creatures quickly.
You can also use it to attack as well.
To top it all off, it counts as an elf and elves are one of the most popular creature types being used.
Giant Growth
Giant Growth is a green instant that costs one green mana.
It gives target creature plus three power and plus three toughness.
While this card may seem simplistic, it has a lot of uses.
First, is it protects your creatures.
A favorite target of Lightning Bolt are mana dorks like Llanowar Elves and Birds of Paradise.
Once you target them with Giant Growth , it negates the effect of the Lightning Bolt.
Second, is it takes down larger creatures.
Lets say you have an opponent attacking with a Trained Armodon.
It is a creature with three power and three toughness.
You can use your Llanowar Elves to block it and then cast Giant Growth and target the elf.
You take down the armodon but your elf survives.
Third, is to add oomph to your attack.
Lets say you have a creature with evasion, was not blocked or has trample and you want to add more punch to your attack, you can cast Giant Growth.
Fog
Fog is a green instant that costs one green mana.
It prevents all combat damage this turn.
This is a simple and powerful card as it negates your opponent's attack while allowing you to counterattack the next turn.
Imagine if you had a Fog on an Isochron Scepter. It would stop your opponents attacks cold.
Explore
Explore is a green sorcery that costs one colorless and one green mana.
It allows you to play an additional land this turn and lets you draw a card.
This is a very good acceleration card as you can play two land on the turn Explore was cast.
You also get card replacement as this card replaces itself when used.
Harrow
Harrow is a green instant that costs two colorless and one green mana.
As an added cost to playing Harrow, you need to sacrifice a land.
It enables you to search your library for up to two basic lands and place them in the battlefield.
The beauty of Harrow is that it is an instant. You can use it as a response to a spell or effect an opponent has that targets your land.
Instead of your land being destroyed or stolen, you can sacrifice that land to find more lands.
Not only that, it thins out your library so you will have greater chances to draw spells and not lands.
Rancor
Rancor is a green enchantment that costs one green mana.
The enchanted creature gets plus two power and plus zero toughness and trample.
If Rancor ends up into a graveyard from the battlefield, you put it back to your hand.
The beauty of Rancor is that it is a reusable buff for your creatures and will only be removed through exiling.
Priest of Titania
Priest of Titania is a green creature that costs one colorless and one green mana.
It has one power and one toughness.
You can tap it to produce one green mana for every elf in the battlefield including itself.
Priest of Titania is what you would get it you crossed a Llanowar Elf with a Gaea's Cradle.
It helps you accelerate your mana production quickly so you can summon larger creatures quickly.
You can also use it to attack as well.
To top it all off, it counts as an elf and elves are one of the most popular creature types being used.
Cultivate
Cultivate is a green sorcery that costs two colorless and one green mana.
It enables you to search your library for up to two basic lands. You place one of them into your hand and place the other in the battlefield tapped.
This enables you to accelerate and ramp up quickly.
Not only that, it thins out your library so you will have greater chances to draw spells and not lands.
Farseek
Farseek is a green sorcery that costs one colorless and one green mana.
It enables you to search your library for any land that counts as a Swamp, an Island, a Mountain or a Plains.
The beauty of this card is that it is not restricted to searching for basic lands and you can search for Shock Lands or Dual Lands using this card.
Utopia Sprawl
Farseek is a green enchantment that costs one green mana.
It can only enchant a Forest.
Utopia Sprawl lets you pick what color the enchanted land can produce in addition to what it can normally produce.
