An AFOL. I love talking about, creating and playing with LEGO bricks.
Today we will be taking a closer look at the Super Mushroom Surprise set number 30385. This set came out in 2020, has 18 pieces, and was designed for people 6 and up.
This set was a free giveaway with a minimum purchase of the new Super Mario theme sets at LEGO stores and LEGO.com. It was also available to purchase at Target and later given to other retail stores to sell. You can not use this polybag set for game play, unless you have the Adventure With Mario Starter Set 71360
While the set only comes with 18 pieces, it does offer 2 playable game features and lots of new pieces.
As the name suggests, you get to build a Super Mushroom. This build consists of 2 new pieces created for the Super Mario theme. The 2X2 brick has new eye printing on it and the modified cube with 4 studs on top is a completely new mold. Once built, the sensor scan print can be used to change Mario to Super-Mode in the game.
You can also build a question block. While the printing on the 2X2 brick is new for this theme, the pieces to assemble it are common. For in game play, the sensor scan print will give Mario 1 of 6 possible power up rewards. This particular game piece is available in 4 other sets from the first wave.
These set pieces are placed on an island or game board section built with the newly released bright green modified 4X4 plate with rounded corners and 4 feet built on top of the blue modified 6X6 plate with rounded corners and 4 feet. After you have assembled the set, you can move this section to a different location to change your level layout.
This set is for people who want the full digital game experience of the new LEGO Super Mario Theme or completionist. If you are curious about the theme, this set comes with too few pieces and characters to justify the price or space.
