LEGO Indiana Jones

In 2007 Lego announced that it would be releasing a LEGO series based on the Indiana Jones movie franchise. The inclusion of guns within the sets was a source of controversy within the company. With the exception of some kits within the licensed themes, LEGO has no military-themed sets because the LEGO founder, Ole Kirk Christiansen, had a policy to not make war seem like child's play.

The Indiana Jones LEGO sets were released in 2008 and become one of their most successful series. They were so popular that it played a significant role in helping boost LEGOs profits for the entire year. The initial release had sets from the movies Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. The sets for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull were released later that year to be in sync with the movie release. There are a couple reasons given for why Temple of Doom was left out of the original release. At one point Lego said “we chose to focus on those most iconic scenes from the original trilogy, which happen to come from Raiders and Last Crusade.” It was also said that “The Temple of Doom as it's themes were 'too dark' and the lack of iconic vehicle scenes in the movie restricted their options further.” In 2009 Temple of Doom was added to complete the film franchise.

LEGO Indiana Jones went beyond the standard brick assembly kits. They also created two LEGO video games and an animated short film called Lego Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Brick.

This Lego set is based on the location where the Ark of the Covenant was hiding for centuries. It was also where Indy and Marion were trapped along with thousands of snakes. Luckily, this set only contains 10 snakes. In Raiders of the Lost Ark images of C-3PO and R2-D2 were hidden among the hieroglyphics of the walls in the Well of Souls. Lego hid the same easter eggs in this set.
