How to get to high levels In Spec Ops Survival mode On Call Of duty Modern Warfare 3 ( MW3 )

So this guide will teach you the basic strategies that can be applied to all of the survival mode maps throughout spec ops on Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3. You will learn which things are worth buying, and which things aren't and how to get far in the game

Also upon request I have created a Twitter account for Johnrr's Hubs which can be found here

Also.. I am on the Xbox Live network, for those of you who continue to ask, my gamer tag is Agent Johnr. I tend to not add new members from here unless I play with you first, and I only play hardcore domination, or Infected, but either way if you see me on, feel free to send a shout out.

The things to buy

I always suggest going as far as you can before you have to buy weapons, but eventually you will reach the point when you need weapons. Initially i always suggest an assault rifle, because there cheap and you can take them far, but either that or an a LMG will help. When you buy a weapon, stay away from Snipers, Shotguns, pistols, sub machine guns, or anything that is not in the assault rifle/ Light machine gun class. If you choose assault rifles, i would say buy the best one you can buy at your level, and continue to do this through all the levels, and if you buy a light machine gun, it really doesn't matter which one you buy, but i suggest buying the best one you can at your level.

Personally i suggest light machine guns over assault rifles because you can carry more ammo. And when you have to buy more ammunition at later rounds you will get the bigger bang for you buck, so i suggest using a light machine gun and if so, buy them for both of you classes.

As far as kill streaks go, i do not think this is very important, but you can buy them. This will help you as you as you play throughout the game, but as i said, i do not find these crucial in the early levels, and you can manage later levels without having any of these.

When it comes to predators, or attack copter, i would say predator missiles are key. They are great for taking out the juggernaut that you will face at higher levels. I would not suggest using either of these at early levels, as these will not help you get as far as you need to throughout the game. They will kill the enemy but its more of a waste of money, than using your weapon.

As far as the assistance by either a riot shield team, or a regular team. If you can wait then i will always suggest spending the $5000 to buy the riot shield team. They will last much longer than the regular team and are very effective.

Buying a turret. This is also crucial. The turrets do matter, The grenade turret is much better than the regular turret, but if your not a high enough level a regular turret will be fine. But either way a turret is crucial. I will get to where you should place it on this level when i talk about your strategy for where to go.

As far as explosives and everything else from the grenade box, i would say not to worry about it. The only crucial thing is that you always maintain a self revive, because at any point something could go wrong you and you may need a pick up. So whether your playing alone or with a friend it is key that you ALWAYS have a self revive. Also it can be smart to keep your flashes stocked up especially when the juggernauts come along, this will allow you to stun and paralyze them for easier killing.

Where to go, and how to play

The best early strategy, is movement. Stay moving through the first few levels as the enemy has bad accuracy, and will not shoot you if you stay moving. Once automatic weapons get involved with the enemy it will be a good time for you to camp. This is when you should choose to find a place and stay still.

When picking a place on a map, you should find an area that has only a could entrance to you, but also that you can easily escape ( i will have guides eventually that will cover every map, some out now that will show you where to hide). You should aim turrets where the lower amount of enemies will come, you face the large amount of enemies with light machine guns, and lay into them. This will make it easy for you to get far in the game.

The juggernauts are not as hard as people make them to be. A simple predator missile, or LMG clip will take him out. Having riot shield squad helps a lot too.

So this guide should teach you the basics. If you have questions, or need help please feel free to comment, or ask questions so i can help you and others.

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on June 10, 2013:

Haha I know what you mean.. I don't use C4 unless playing survival because not only am I AWFUL with it, but I always screw it up and kill myself, or do something stupid..

Wraith on May 28, 2013:

I will admit, since I usually use the C4 to take out the majority of the regular waves on Seatown, I feel like a completely retarded noob (sort of the level of stupid where you don't know what button you use to shoot...) every single time it happens...

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on May 25, 2013:

haha ;)

John from Tennessee on May 25, 2013:

Ohh... now i feel stupid i knew that

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on May 24, 2013:

What do you need help with? need to know you strategy, and how you play?

carl on April 30, 2013:

hi me and my friend are like noobs past lv 20 so can you help us we really need it so pleasse help!!!!!

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on October 24, 2012:

@Paul Jones... I mean at this point you know what you doing. There really aren't many tips I can give at that point, but just keep focusing..

paul jones on October 24, 2012:

Highest wave on resistance is 58 any tips or strategies for about this point, one of the juggernauts took every single one of my lmgs bullets to the head and was still running around like a beast! Was also using flash bangs and c4. Building up the knife streak flash kill and quad kill challenges for money was also rather difficult. Thanks for taking the time to make these pages

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on October 20, 2012:

Yes john, wraith is correct, and you must be very careful when detonating C4 because if you double tap reload it will explode.

Wraith on October 18, 2012:

That would be because double tapping the use (for PC) or use/reload (for XBox and PS3) is the faster way to detonate C4, since you don't take out the clacker and use that. I have been guilty of accidentally blowing up my C4 many times... usually while going to buy more of it! XD

John from Tennessee on October 16, 2012:

Sometimes after i lay down c4, it will blow up when i buy ammo or reload. why does it do that..?

Wraith on October 04, 2012:

F2, since the machine pistols cost a little less than the SMGs, try getting the FMG9 (with a red dot sight if you want it). It has more than 300 rounds, and 1 clip can take out a juggernaut the first 2 times they come in.

F2 on September 05, 2012:

Actually submachine guns are good are first and later on for fast kills but LMGs weren't that useful to me I'm trying to pass the record but by know I just reached 506 with P90m1,Sniper rifle( To practice my quickscope) and assault rifle. I tried the perk package thing throwin it near juggernut and then spinning around him likee crazy but I died at crates hand on the second time

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on August 08, 2012:

Hey canon. Personally I don't like the c-4 method solely because i accidentally shoot them sometimes, and it is a waste. So personally I prefer light machine gun fire, or predator missile. Also I feel the house is to easy to get trapped in.

canonfodder on August 07, 2012:

One the big +s to camping in the house passed 25 is being able tleave the chopper till last an run round restocking or setting claymores etc u can set 10 claymore or c4 and go buy more but if u lay more than about 20 they blow up

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on July 21, 2012:

Haha, thanks, and glad it helped. Personally I don't understand why people camp in the house past round.... lets say.. 25...

zach on July 21, 2012:

thanks man, i really appreciate ur advice. i always stayed in the center building and got trapped by the jugs. having an unblockable exit (edge of balcony) is a great solution

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on July 06, 2012:

yah not a bad spot, I just try to stay away from areas where you could get stuck.

hamoudy12 on July 06, 2012:

resistance i use the shop at the corner know it ?

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on July 06, 2012:

Well my solo guide has brief tips for all maps, with pics. I don't know what map you are looking for, for solo, but when I play solo I don't always use the balcony (assuming resistance). For solo you should try out some other methods, like run and gun.

hamoudy12 on July 06, 2012:

Hey dude, thanks a lot for the hard work i managed to reach level 30 without using this guide. In fact i still didn't try it out . I do not use niether the place you recommended nor the middle house i use the shop that is at the corner of the map and place two grenade turrets at the back door which stay standingtill level 30 easily and i stay at the front door shooting. When the juggs come i run away and use 10 c4 on the door of the house and try to drive them all in the house at once, works 80 % any ways i seem to find your tactic perfect just if that balcony had roofs ahh i play solo any advice on a comment here please i don't wanna go to that stupid brief solo guide sorry hehe this guide is AWESOME :) that one nope :(

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on July 05, 2012:

As said Seal I would pay to see it, and would love to see it. I would also love to catch that on video. I may make an attempt to try to get one with a perk package because I think that is hysterical. .

@ Sam. My guides are mainly for 1-30 players only because these are meant to help, and if you are getting past level 30 each time, you probably don't need assistance anyway..

SEAL on July 05, 2012:

Thanks for the response (john). lol i don't use perk packages as my primary way but its still fun to pull off.

Sam on July 04, 2012:

Just want to mention, this is for waves 1-30, haven't gotten past that (I play alone), but a MK46 will win a standoff with a Regular juggernaut, provided you don't reload. I believe you also will have enough ammo against a Riot-shield Jugg as well. None of the other LMGs win when I've tested. Helpful when cornered, and trying to get the Achievement.

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on July 03, 2012:

A- To kill choppers without Preds, just lay into the with light machine guns, ALSO Never NEVER use a pred on a chopper, it would not only waste 2000 dollars, but you could miss, and you could use on infantry coming at you, so just lay into them with heavy machine gun fire. I would assume dropping a perk package would be insta kill, BUT I would pay to see someone do this 3 ties in a row, and definitely would not use this as my main way of killing juggs LOL, but flashes/heavy gun fire works as well. Thanks Seal for reading, and commenting on my HUBS!

SEAL on July 02, 2012:

hey great post. can u give me a few tips on 1 placeing sentrys and 2 killing chopers (without using preds). juggs arent a problem i just use air strike wich kills them 90 percent of the time (mind u must have some skill at throwing these) and if he does survive half a clip of the ak will finish him off. also if u can manage to drop a perk pacage on him it will kill him. ive pulled this off twise to date.

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on June 05, 2012:

No, once a game is ended, you must start at the beginning, the only way is to pause the game on solo, or with a friend not on live. I wish they would add a save feature...

Edgar Sandoval on June 05, 2012:

I meant save your progress...

Edgar Sandoval on June 05, 2012:

Can you save your place on survival mode?

Squishy on May 06, 2012:

Thanks for this useful informations.

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on May 04, 2012:

I don't think this is the best place to call people out on resistance, if anything try the youtube videos.

sa.rockstar on April 30, 2012:

is there anyone that think they can do better than me on resistance map?i would like to see someone in action...maybe i can learn something on ps3.i unlocked all of my weapons and equip.

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on April 28, 2012:

Well.. That's why getting extremely good at circling a map becomes extremely useful. I was more talking for earlier rounds like up to 30 as most people who read this usually start to die off around there. Soo until then your looking at about 40-60, after that it obviously increases as the health level of all enemy items increases.

Rhw5 on April 28, 2012:

I know from personal experience it takes closer to 200 rounds of LMGs at waves 60-70, and after facing juggernaunts you don't have that ammo.

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on April 28, 2012:

Don't waste preds on helicopters they go down even on high levels after about 40-60 LMG bullets.

Rhw5 on April 28, 2012:

The only problem with moving is the choppers, they are like juggernauts themselves, we hit one chopper with two predator missiles, and it was still flying. But we did find that If you headshot a juggernaut with an RPG, it dies no matter what.

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on April 27, 2012:

Well obviously they will eventually die, but it does take a lot of effort. Just continue laying into them. They are obviously tougher at higher levels, but still killable. Just continue at it, and keep moving.

Rhw5 on April 27, 2012:

Any suggestions for juggernauts at high waves like 70, seems like nothing will kill them. We hit them with predetor missiles, lots of c4, riot shielders, and LMGs, and still die.

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on April 17, 2012:

Thanks and glad you like the guides.

1- Xbox 360

2- Yes the air support armory, reason I call them kill streaks, is because Well... That's just how I refer to them, but basically the box with the airplane above it.

3- Yes self revive is truly the key to survival in my opinion. As far as a solution, I would say look for a dog near by, or maybe a weaker unit, because the pistol is ineffective against the armored. Although, you could look for an injured player (one laying down from a gun shot wound) they tend to get taken out by 2 bullets max.

colonelhepburn on April 17, 2012:

Hi John, great guides mate. Thanks for taking the time to put your thoughts online. A couple of qns (apologies if the answer is somewhere already and I missed it):

1. do you play on ps3 or xbox?

2. related to qn 1, when you refer to a killstreak box do you mean the air support armoury? (maybe this is a ps3/xbox thing - i play on ps3).

3. couldn't agree more with your thoughts on self-revive, i always like to have it too. but any thoughts on when you go down surrounded by armoured guys who shoot out your self-revive? hard to kill them with just the pistol. maybe there's no solution to this, other than to get better at the game....

John Reid-Roberts (author) from Boston, Massachusetts on April 12, 2012:

Please keep in mind that as levels get higher, it is harder to kill juggernauts. A level 10 juggernaut is easier than a 15 juggernaut. The health of the opponents is based off of levels.

silverpaulo3 on April 12, 2012:

Strikers are great against juggernauts. They die in less than a clip and if you need to reload, just get bhind them since they can't manuever that well. Armored juggernauts require more than 1 clip though.
