Lap tag is a fun party game for all ages. I learned how to play lap tag at 14 when someone asked me "Hey, do you want to do something fun and violent?" and now I'm 22 and still love it! What makes lap tag awesome is that you don't need anything to play except people and a large area. Also the fun. And the violence.
Minimum people to play lap tag: 7
Minimum space to play lap tag: 20ft square area
Best place to play laptag: a large room with carpeting, or on the beach. A softer surface is always preferable.
How to Play Lap Tag
Make two circles, one just inside the other. One person stands at the center of both circles. This center person is "it."
The inner circle wants to "tag" the center person. The outer circle wants to stop the inner circle from tagging the person.
Why is it called lap tag? Because each person in the inner circle has an outer circle partner whose lap they sit in. The outer partner spreads their legs on the floor, and the inner partner sits between them. Abandon all dignity at the door.
The outer partner tries to keep their inner partner from reaching the center by any mean necessary. This is a full contact party game.
Once someone reaches the center, they become "it" and all partners switch places. The inner and outer circle reverse, and the old "it" takes the winner's place in the new outer circle.
Does everyone go at once?
They can, but with a large party it's best to let the center person call names. Everyone else can just watch the violence. 3 or 4 names is good to start, then call more if they aren't making any progress.
How does the game end?
Usually at the first major injury.
How do you win lap tag?
Anyone who doesn't break a bone is a winner.
