How to Make Gumamela or Hibiscus Bubbles
Bubbles
Gumamela Flower
Introduction
Gumamela or Hibiscus is a common flowering plant native to warm-temperate, subtropical and tropical regions throughout the world. It is a flowering plant I grew up with in my hometown in the Philippines. How to make bubbles out of the Gumamela plant has been passed on by generations. Making bubbles adds a new level fun to any occasions, whether it be a party, or just friends relaxing by waiting for the time to pass by. Sometimes other ingredients are added to make the bubbles more durable and lasts longer.
Instructions, the traditional way:
- Grind the Gumamela petals and leaves using mortar and pestle. In my childhood days, we just used a flat surface stone as a surface and a round one to grind the Gumamela petals.
- Mix the Gumamela petal and leaves paste to about 1 1/2 cup of water. You can experiment the amount of Gumamela petal paste at this point
- Use a plastic straw to make bubbles. We used papaya stalks back in the days.
Instructions, adding other ingredients to make bubbles more durable:
- Grind the Gumamela petals and leaves using mortar and pestle. In my childhood days, we just used a flat surface stone as a surface and a round one to grind the Gumamela petals.
- Mix 1/2 cup of soap to 1 1/2 cup of water
- Add 2 teaspoons of sugar and dissolve
- Mix the Gumamela petal and leaves paste to the solution
- Use a plastic straw to make bubbles. We used papaya stalks back in the days.
