Power Leveling Battle Pets
It can be a real pain to level battle pets to 25. But it doesn't have to be such a tedious chore.
First, if you have alts level 85-89, this is a great opportunity to give them free experience. I've leveled several alts to 90 simply by battling pets in the wild throughout Mists of Panderia's zones. Every pet battle victory yields experience and, unlike pet battle PvP, there is absolutely no reason that you should ever lose a pet battle in the wild.
Level Up Fast
When you place three pets in a battle pet team, they share the experience they gain. Each pet receives a third of the experience for a battle (the amount each gets is then scaled based on its level).
However, pets at maximum level do not steal experience away from leveling pets. In other words, when you place one leveling pet into a team with two 25's, it will level faster because it receives three times the experience for each battle.
This is especially significant because it means that you can easily level your pets in high-level zones. The two level 25's on your team will do all the real fighting, and the low-level pet will reap all of the rewards. And, when facing off against pets of much higher level, those rewards will be substantial!

Know What Pets You Are Likely to Encounter
If you know what pet types are prevelant in a zone, you can stack the cards in your favor.
In the wild, you will most commonly encounter critter, beast, flying, and aquatic pets. Therefore, the team you use should consist of a combination of beast, mechanical, magic, or flying types. Place level 25 pets in your team that are strong against the types you are most commonly facing.
Feline Familiar: The Perfect Pet for Leveling?
Great for Grinding
The Best Battle Pet Team
The best battle pet team for leveling pets consists of the low-level pet you are currently leveling and two level 25 rare pets that have a combination of fast damage with good survivability. These pets should allow you to rapidly win battle after battle without having to heal.
Here are some highly recommended pets for grinding experience:
Beast Types (strong against Critters)
Feline Familiar - I consider this the best overall experience-grinding pet out there. This pet can tear through its opponent while keeping its health high. The Stoneskin ability reduces all damage it takes. For dealing damage, use the ability Pounce, which does additional damage if the user goes first. Against wild pets, you usually will. Then finish off your opponent with Devour, which restores health when you kill an enemy with it.
The Feline Familiar is available from the Hallow's End event in October or via the auction house. If you're unable to obtain one, an alternate choice is the Nightsaber Cub, which has similar abilities. Another beast option is an Amethyst Spider or Jumping Spider. Both of these pets have Strike and Brittle Webbing to deal damage, and Leech Life gives them limited healing capability.
Magic Types (strong against Flying)
Disgusting Oozling - Begin your assault by applying Corrosion to your opponent. It deals light up-front damage and also applies a DoT. Expunge is a strong attack ability, although it has a moderate chance to miss. Combined with Absorb, which heals the user for 100% of the damage it deals, you'll be able to go long spans of time without having to heal.
The Disgusting Oozling is a world drop that is frequently available in auction houses. However, it can sometimes be expensive. You can always consider substituting another magic pets with similar abilities in its place. Jade Oozling, Toxic Wasteling, Filthling, Oily Slimeling, Living Fluid, and Vicious Horror should all be equally effective.
Mechanical Types (strong against Beasts)
Son of Animus - Son of Animus does decent damage with the Metal Fist ability, but where it shines is in its survivability. This pet has Extra Plating, allowing it to reduce 50% of incoming damage, and the Siphon Anima ability heals it for 100% of the damage it deals. This pet can slice through beast opponents like butter.
Son of Animus is a Throne of Thunder raid drop. It can be found on auction houses, but it is usually quite expensive. Two alternate mechanical pets are Tiny Harvester or De-Weaponized Mechanical Companion. Both of these have Metal Fist, Iron Plating, and Repair, which allows them to heal, although doing so renders them unable to perform actions for two rounds.
Flying Types (strong against Aquatic)
Bat - Flying pets don't seem to be as successful at grinding as their Beast, Magic, or Mechanical coutnerparts, but I have found the Bat to perform decently. Its Leech Life and Reckless Strike abilities allow it to deal fair amounts of damage and recover some of its health. Both of these abilities have one round cooldowns, so alternate between them.
If you prefer, the Trisfal Batling has the same abilities. Another possible contender for the Flying spot on your team could be a Pterrordax Hatchling, which has Ancient Blessing, a healing ability.

Best Places to Farm
The higher the level of your wild pet opponents, the more experience your leveling pet will receive from fighting them. For that reason, the best places I've found to farm pet experience are in Mists of Panderia. Here are the areas I frequent:
Kun-Lai Summit (mountains) -- Pets indigenous to this area include Alpine Foxlings (beast), Alpine Foxling Kits (beast), Tolai Hare (critter), Summit Kids (beast), and Kun-lai Runts (human). Try to find five or more pets in a cluster. This way, by the time you've fought all of the initial ones, you should start to get some respawns.
Kun-Lai Summit (areas surrounding Binan Village) - Pets found in this area include the Painted Mouse (critter), Tolai Hare (critter), Zooey Snake (beast), and Plains Monitor (beast). If you follow the path Northwest from Binan Village, you should be able to find a good supply of pets to battle with very little down-time.
Valley of the Four Winds (near Galleon & Silken Fields) - There are an abundance of critters (Marsh Fiddlers, Malayan Quillrats, Malayan Quillrat Pups, Bandicoons, and Bandicoon Pups) and some aquatic pets (Softshell Snapling and Sifang Otter) in this area. Aquatics can be found along the riverbed, while critters can be found by venturing into the surrounding grass.
Dailies - In addition to these areas, I generally like to throw in two easy Grand Master Pet Tamer dailies. Lydia Accoste, outside of Karazhan, and Stone Cold Trixxy, in Winterspring, are easily defeated and both give out a Sack of Pet Supplies in addition to a nice chunk of experience for your toon and pets. Again, construct your team with one low level pet with two 25's. I often throw a level 1 into these fights. In such cases, it takes a bit of luck not to have the pet killed, but if it lives through one round, switch it out for one of your 25's and then enjoy! You'll reap 6-7 levels of experience from a single battle. Incidentally, if the pet does die, simply concede the battle, heal, and restart the fight.
Beyond these two dailies, however, I've given up on pet tamers as a way to level battle pets. The time spent flying from location to location can't justify the amount of experience gained. Grinding in one spot is far more efficient.

doomscythe, it is not as effective a method because of the time involved in going from grandmaster to grandmaster. Yes, you can level a pet up to 12 in one battle. But you can do the same thing in 2-3 battles while staying in one place by simply farming wild Panderian pets.
Even if you always win against the grandmasters (I don't), you will expend more time (due to travel) for the same results compared to grinding pet xp in one place.

You say that doing dailies isn't an effective method of leveling pets but that's simply wrong. Using anubisath idol + magical crawdad + your choice of level one pet means all the pandaren grand masters are easily done instantly leveling a level one pet too 12-13

This is very helpful. Thank you for listed the best places to level - now I know how to speed things up once I get two 25s. Your suggestions of the best pets to use per type is also appreciated. Voted up and shared!
