How Do People Cheat On Golf Clash?

I'm an avid outdoorsman who loves hiking, biking, snowboarding, and amateur science.

The Golf Clash Game

In this article we are going to have a look at ways that people may be cheating when playing Golf Clash. Please be aware this is not an article designed to encourage cheating. This is simply a close look at people who seem to be shooting incredible low scores when playing golf clash. Are they using some for of cheat? Is there a hack that can be used for free coins? Is this something you should be aware of if playing the game?

Golf Clash in an online app for mobile and tablet. It pits players against each other on the golf course. Players participate in short one on one games, or clashes, against other players from all over the world. The winner of a golf clash game is awarded coins which can be then be used to purchase better equipment, better balls and a few other things as well.

Since it's launch on the app store Golf Clash has become one of the most downloaded sports games and it seems to keep on growing in popularity. There are now millions of players from all over the globe competing in games on a daily basis. As with most popular games though, before long the word cheat is used. A select few seem to shoot lower scores than anyone else and so people start pointing the finger and accusing people of cheating.

So does cheating happen on Golf Clash? Well lets have a look.

Are Cheats Spoiling The Game?

Are There Cheats Out There?

If you do a quick internet search for Golf Clash cheats there are a few forum posts that pop up, a few videos and one or two blogs. The most interesting of these are the videos. I've watched some of these and although there were some unusual looking shots taking place I did not see any evidence of cheating. I've been playing the game for many months and played a few thousand rounds and I can safely say I've hit a few seemingly impossible shots and had some amazing flukes. That does not mean I have been using cheats though.

Similar is true when you read the forums. Players complain of a shot going in the hole that should not have done, or people hooking a drive and it landing in the middle of the fairway. I've seen it myself when playing, but as in real golf, sometimes people just get very lucky.

There are also posts about using hacks, patches and other ways of cheating. These all seem very complicated and after having a look at some of them I honestly can't see much benefit.

The other cheat you may hear mentioned is a cheat for getting more coins. There are hacks out there that claim that this can be done. Whether or not they work is another matter. Usually things like this work for a while but then are blocked or taken down. The reality is, even if a player does have a lot of coins, it doesn't really give them that much on an advantage in actual game play.

The main reason people sometimes feel aggrieved when playing Golf Clash is the tournament results. If you shoot your best ever round but you're still five shots behind the leader this does make you feel as if they may be cheating. Well the news is that there is a form of cheating that is commonly used in Golf Clash. This is known as sandbagging.

The Golf Clash Game

If you're not familiar with the term sandbagging, this is the term used when a player intentionally shoots bad scores to manipulate their average. It can even take place in real golf where a player may try to bring his handicap score up to give him an advantage when playing against others.

In Golf Clash players don't have an average score. So how does sandbagging take place? Well there are five tiers of player in Golf Clash, Beginner, Rookie, Professional, Expert and Master. Each of the tiers also have three sub tiers. As a player wins matches and earns more coins they move up through the tiers. When competing in the all important tournaments, players only compete against those in their own tier.

So for an experienced player who knows the game well and has the best available equipment, if they were to play in the Rookie tier they would stand a very good chance of finishing very high up the leader board or even winning. So how does this happen?

We as you can move up through the tiers, you can also move down. Each week the players with the lowest number of coins move down a tier. So if a player was to log on to the game during a week, but either lose all their matches, or simply not play, they would move down a tier. Do this several weeks in a row and they would soon be playing at rookie level again, thus giving them a massive advantage over other players.

I've seen it myself where players ranked in the thousands end up playing in the Rookie tournament. They have a huge advantage over others and it could really be called a form of cheating.

Using Overlays & The Banning Of Them

One of the most controversial cheat methods is using overlays. This has been a popular method used by many top players over the past few months. If you're unfamiliar with it there is an app you can download called Golf Clash Notebook. This app has lots of features but the main one is using on overlay that appears on your screen and helps you make the correct wind adjustment.

Judging the wind is one of the most difficult parts of the game but using this overlay app players can suddenly become extremely accurate even in very strong wind condition. Using the overlay app was always a grey area and many players were not happy and were saying it was basically a way of cheating. For a long time there was no word from Playdemic the Golf Clash creators. However, early in 2019 the news came out that they would be banning the use of the overlay app.

This news was met on social media with mixed responses. Obviously the people who use the app were not happy as they were having their toy taken away from them. The creator of the app was obviously furious as he had put a great deal of time and effort into creating it and was actually making good money from it. The vast majority of Golf Clash players welcomed the announcement though as they did view it as a cheat and wanted the playing field levelling out.

Since the banning of the overlay app there have been other alternative methods of using overlays springing up. In reality it will be very difficult for Playdemic to keep finding all the different methods people are using, but at least they are trying their best to make it difficult for people to use this form of cheat in the game.

Golf Clash Creators Have Their Say On Cheaters

In April of this year Golf Clash creators Playdemic finally broke their silence on the use of cheats. Above is a snippet of the official announcement sent out to each player of the game. The message was several pages long covering everything from overlays to abusive language. It's a massive step from Playdemic though to actually come out and admit that yes, people are using cheats to play the game.

So some of the main parts from the announcement were that as mentioned earlier in this article, third party apps that use overlays are officially banned. Anyone found using these will have their account suspended. They actually go as far as asking players to report suspicious activity to help catch players who are using cheats.

There is also mention of abusive behaviour which covers everything you would expect, but also it mentions that discussing or encouraging the use of cheats within the game is not allowed. Also discussing the buying, selling or trading of accounts is not allowed. This would most likely be done in the clan chat, so it will be interesting to see if they are now monitoring what is said in the clans.

The most important section of the document though is the section on other apps and guides. Golf Clash make it very clear that using an app that features any form of overlay is not allowed and will be classed as cheating. Also apps that interfere with the aim method or the control method are banned.

It then goes on to state that people are still free to use guides. There are many websites and apps that features guides on things such as how to use the rings, how to line up shots and how to adjust for elevation etc... Playdemic have said these guides are still fine to use and even encouraged and is teaches players how to be better golfers on the game. So the good news is that guides are not to be classed as a form of cheat.

This is a very interesting update from Golf Clash and it's nice that they have come out and admitted that there are people using Golf Clash cheats but they are now actively trying to combat this.

The Name Change Update

Since writing this article there has been an interesting change you may have noticed on the Golf Clash game. When logging in today players were asked to change their player name. When entering a player name there was a note made that this would no longer be able to be changed once confirmed.

Under the old system you could change your player name whenever you felt like it. This meant you could play a different username each time you played if you wished. It is thought that this new policy is to make it easier to keep track of players and more to the point, keep track of any potential suspicious play. I myself witnessed something very suspicious last week when playing. A player with a very high win ratio was putting from a reasonable distance, he didn't take any time with the putt, just hit it straight away even though the arrows had not lined up. The put should have gone miles wide but instead it went straight into the hole. Was this some kind of cheat or was it just a glitch in the game?

The Rise Of The Clans

One of the latest and most significant updates in recent times was the introduction of clans. This has massively improved the game giving Golf Clash way more scope and making it more of a community. Players can now join Clans which can host up to fifty players per Clan. The different Clans compete against each other to move up the leagues and secure more benefits and prizes for themselves.

However with the arrival of clans this has offered a breeding ground for cheats. In clans you have the ability to chat with other players. This means sharing tips and tactics which is all well and good. It also though gives players the chance to share cheats. I've seen this myself where one player was trying to get people to join his Facebook group which he said had a hack for getting free credits. He was quickly removed from our Clan but it shows that it does happen.

Another form of cheating is also taking place. If a player in a team is struggling for coins he can play against another team member who has plenty of coins. The player with the wealth of coins can throw the game to basically give the other player free coins. This is not a huge issue but it could be seen as a form of cheating.

Clans have really livened up the game and are really good fun. However, as with most things they can be abused and this does seem to be taking place on a small scale within the Golf Clash game.

What Next For Golf Clash

Over the years Golf Clash has seen a rise and fall in popularity. The game makers have tried to keep the app up to date with fresh updates and new features. The introduction of the clans gave the game a huge boost and player numbers soared for a few months. Now though the game seems to be slowing down again, so maybe it's time for a fresh update and some new features.

The big fuss caused about the cheats and using overlays actually seems to have driven some players away from the game. Could it be that new features in the future encourage the use of certain approved overlays within the game. Or will the game add more tournaments of different playing conditions? Another features similar online golf games have used is different forms of match play or competition. Maybe this is something that Golf Clash can try in the future.

How To Shoot Low Scores

So if you're not using cheats or sandbagging, how do you shoot low scores when playing Golf Clash? Well as with most things it's all down to practice. When you see players winning tournaments, the vast majority of times they are very experienced players who play the game often. They get to know each individual hole, where to play the shot, when to take a risk, when to lay up. A good player will know the roll of the green and where to aim his approach shot.

Along with this you also need timing to hit the sweet shot when hitting the ball. Make sure you have a fast connection for this, you don't want the meter juddering as you're trying to get your timing right.

Golf Clash really is a great fun game. I've never come across anyone I thought was cheating and I've seen no evidence of cheats anywhere online. If you don't take the game to seriously and don't worry about the occasional sandbagger then you will find that Golf Clash really is a very good mobile game to play.

I don’t get people saying about pandemic making money. I’ve never spent a penny on this game. I play against played with balls that cost money but it often doesn’t make them play any better. You can earn balls and buy with earned gems. If people don’t want to spend money, they don’t have to to enjoy the game.

Christopher Stephens on September 07, 2020:

I personally have written hacks for this game in lua and ASM. They exist have went private to avoid bans.

Frenchmen on August 21, 2020:

This game is a cheat just to get your money 3 weeks ago I had over a million coins and 2 thousand gems but they put me on a 3 week loosing streak now I have 1 thousands coins I got in touch with my states ag he started a investigation for fraud because the program was made to cheat people

Andrew Orrell (author) from UK on May 14, 2020:

I agree, I think the problem here is people creating second accounts. So they may have been playing for years but the game assumes they are new players and matches them with easy opponents. They should stop people from having multiple accounts.

Sirgma on May 13, 2020:

My issue is players who have only played 1000 or so games having 58- 70% win percentage, and obviously not playing from skill, cheaters. Why would I ever spend another dime on a game like that.

The ONLY way I will ever buy another package is if and when Golf Clash starts pairing people with similar win ratios.

Grouch one on April 20, 2020:

I have played against two people that would hook it into the water on purpose. Then instead of docking them a stroke it gave them the ball in a location where it was a great shot. I thought I was mistaken with the first player but the second player did it on consecative shots.

Whiny Baby Biotches on March 01, 2020:

WOW! Can't believe the amount of whiny baby complaining going on here about the developers trying to make money. News flash morons, that's the whole point! The developers spent a LOT of time & money creating this game! Yes, the more money you spend the better equipped your clubs are & the more premium balls you will have, but that will only take you so far. GC is a game of accuracy & precision. You have to play a lot & learn the nuances of each & every hole & green, especially if you want to be successful at Tour 8 & above. If you take some kind of offense to them trying to turn a profit, then you can uninstall the game. Problem solved! If you are so cash strapped you can't afford to toss the devs twenty bucks here & there, you probably shouldn't be playing. Go get a job & quit whining!

Typical whiny baby millenials. Always want to be spoon fed everything instead of putting in the work.

And to the "golf pro" who caught his son cheating, tell him this. It's only cheating if you get caught! Tell him next time he cheats to be more discrete about his actions & keep his mouth shut!

duffy on February 24, 2020:

the cheat by players and by the game itself are a joke. they plant bots as opponents to reduce you agility to uprade. i have watched as one players shot arrow runs smooth and the other has random speeds and stops. support will blame you for any glitches

Booger on February 22, 2020:

Not playing anymore not only are people cheating the whole game is sided to take as much money as possible.

I have started a game analysis and have made a program to analyze game functions to unfairly tip the game to one side or the other.

This like many other mobile games are unfair and will be uncovered if my findings are conclusive which I have no doubt will show that the maker of golf clash may owe money back to a lot of people

Golden bear on January 17, 2020:

They get 1000 coins in an hour when their tourney cp winnings post. Duh

Spike on January 01, 2020:

I have a major issue, finished Tour 6 with 1.3m coins, decided not to play T7 at 100k per game so went back to T6 to earn more coins so I could play T7, iv lost 27 games at 30k only won 4 games, I have bought golf balls and gems they are quick to take your money, i have complained and im still waiting for a support team member to get back to me, i am in a clan and I've finished first 3 times, I'm also a good golfer, so where do i go from here??

Todd on November 02, 2019:

Wah Wah Wah...I'm not sure what is worse. The cheaters or complainers. Uninstall the game if you don't like it and stop your complaining.

Mickael Macht on November 01, 2019:

At first I liked this this game since all my friends were playing it and wanted me to join in with them, however, due to items like below they have quit the game due to bad calls from the program.

I know that the game cheats, I made the same shot and ended up in the same spot and the game made me redo a shot, while the other guy was allowed to proceed with his shot. This has happened more than once to me.

David on October 23, 2019:

This post says coins will not help. That is completely wrong. If people get unlimited supplies of coins and jewels then they can buy upgrades on all their clubs early in play and buy up unlimited amounts of better balls which is definitely a boost to anyones game.

Barry on September 28, 2019:

The issue I’ve seen is users who have played thousands of rounds, yet they’re playing the beginner courses. Certainly taking advantage of newbies. This should be fixed by the developers so that can’t happen. Open a new course and the game should no longer allow access to the previous course. It would also be nice to be able to play without competing against others. Effectively allowing players to Practice.

Pat on May 13, 2019:

The most serious issue I see with these games is the prevalence of cheating.

I'd like to relay a story that horrified me when my son was young and to give game developers a pause for thought.

At the time I was a CPGA golf professional and I thought it would be fun to buy my son a Tiger Woods game for his Wii system. Unknown to me was the "cheats" that existed. It was quite by accident that I happened to overhear my son and his friend talking about "cheats" for the game, as I listened they talked about going online and finding out where and how to cheat. Needless to say this was not only something you don't want your child to be thin king about much less acting on. Angry and dismayed I took the game package and much to my astonishment it had the PGA's official logo on the box.

After I had sufficient time to cool down I spoke rationally and calmly to my son and his friend about how wrong it is to cheat and the consequences of doing so. It was then that I decided to return the game to the store and explained that I would be contacting the PGA and Tiger Woods to explain how this is against everything a Professional golfer represents. The store manager was hesitant to allow the game to be returned, that was up to the point I started talking loudly and asking how many other games they sell that teach children to cheat.

Golf Clash is no doubt actively engaged in cheating participants which favors the people who spend money with them. Not to mention they have very little to no knowledge relating to how you actually play golf, but then again it's all about money now isn't it?

Del on March 25, 2019:

We were running 2nd in our division of Clans and the team had worked hard and were on a high ! Within an hour, 4 clans below us gained over 1000 points pushing us down the league. I don’t know how a team(s) can put over 1000 in less than an hour. I looked at their county of origin and in some cases it was 3am in the morning.

Does anyone know if this is legitimate? It does not feel right to us . Any similar experiences?
