Two Educational Toys for Toddlers

Chris loves to learn and explore things in life as well as in books, continue learning and enjoying new things - here are some ideas for you

Enjoy Learning With Toys

If you are like me, I like having fun with my family. In the case of my nephews, this means playing and interacting with them. There are two toys that we purchased lately for when our nephews come over that they loved while at our house. One is Spiky Hedgehog, I have played with this more with my younger nephew. He is 18 months old and played with this for about 45 minutes before I needed to change it up for myself. But he loved the encouragement and praise he was given for being successful with the quills.

The other toy is the Spin 'N' Sprinkle Water Lab. This extended bath time for quite a while, but it was fun to watch them laugh at the googly eyes and let the warm water from the sprinkler portion of it warm their backs. I was a little shocked that the boys played with this for a little over an hour before they were willing to get out of the tub. Here is a little more about each of them though. I hope you have as much fun as we have had.

Spike the Fine Motor Hedgehog

Spike is a simple toy for toddlers 18 months and older. I will have to admit that this is a toy that can be put to the side if the toddler is expected to play solo with it after the initial interest wears off, such as a gift to one's nephew.

But playing with and interacting with a young child gives you the opportunity to talk about numbers, colors, and grouping. The overall activity of placing the quills into the hedgehog's back does work on the fine motor skills, pincer grip, etc. But the part that was more fun was playing and pointing out numbers and making challenges of putting a red quill in then an orange quill.

The concepts weren't mastered by any means in one afternoon after cake and ice cream and an exhausting afternoon of jump/dancing, but the idea of numbers, colors, and patterns were put into a young brain and will have time to develop and grow. I recommend this toy for a toddler, the happiness a child can get from being cheered for getting a number right, a color, or simply pushing the quill in all the way with their fingers is great.

Spin 'N' Sprinkle Water Lab

I remember loving to play in the tub as a kid, in those days there were generally just my GI Joe toys to take into the tub though. These days there are a lot more options for enjoying a warm bath. Personally, I am a simple person who enjoys simply relaxing with a book in a warm tub these days. But I can tell this toy is right up the alley for an 18-month-old and a four-year-old. And I can't rightly tell you how long they will have fun playing with it besides the four-year-old may very well pour shampoo into it before the fun is done.

A couple of things to note, that suctions cups are a little tricky to get to stick onto the tub side. You do need to make sure that the wall is clean and smooth before suctioning it onto the side. Another thing that I do when my nephews leave is to soak it in a water and vinegar solution to clean it and prevent mold from growing. When shampoo is poured directly into it, put it under the spigot for awhile while running warm water to clean it out.

Great Children's Toys

I hope that this helps someone out there, I would appreciate comments and thoughts. This would give me an idea if I should continue writing about some of the toys that we get for friends and family.

There are plenty of times when I am looking for toy reviews because I don't want to spend money on a toy that grabs my attention but the kids play with it for five minutes and discard it for life. Until next time, have fun and enjoy your family.
