Lottery Pools Improve Odds of Winning
If you are reading this, you are most likely a regular lottery player like millions of others in the United States and all over the world.
I’m sure all of you lottery enthusiasts have at one time or another joined groups of people who chip in money into a pot for the purpose of buying a greater number of tickets in the hope of increasing odds of winning a big lottery prize. This is a lottery pool. Some of you have joined office lottery pools while others have gotten together with friends and relatives to form a pool for the same purpose.
The advent of the internet has made it easier for people who are totally unknown and unrelated to one another to join lottery pools and buy tickets in larger numbers. While this has been a boon to lottery players, making it easy and convenient to be in play at all big jackpots, it has also spawned scams and frauds.
There have been many cases of these pools taking money from members and then disappearing after a while without having bought a single ticket for its members. There are some good ones though and one must just do his own due diligence in locating the honest ones. Word of mouth is perhaps the best method of finding them.
The big risk of joining online pools is that you send in money and are never sure if in fact they bought tickets or not. Another fraudulent practice by some pools is taking the money and running their own lotteries with their own prizes.
They are private lottery pools that are not affiliated with country pools either in their own country or internationally. Being that they are in full control of their lottery numbers it is easy for them to fuzzy the numbers and determine at their whim which ticket numbers are winners.
But online lottery pools, by and large, have become a boon to international lottery players. In the United States, we see thousands of citizens in foreign lands buy lotteries here because of the huge payouts by the big three. Surprisingly many of these international participants reside in third world countries where there are stringent laws against citizens dealing in foreign exchange.
How these third world citizens go around their countries’ strict foreign exchange laws is something to wonder about. But somehow they manage to remit the necessary funds to US pool operators. The same thing is true of Americans who live in non-lottery states. They also participate in lottery pools outside their home states.
One way of getting around the issue of how to send money to a lottery pool is by joining one that is totally free. Yes, FREE like you don't have to send any money to share in the ownership of lottery tickets and share in the winnings. More on this later.
In the United States, there are 44 states that offer lotteries plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands, making a total of 47 territories where residents can play the game. There are three major US lotteries whose tickets are highly sought by lottery players all over the world because of their extremely high payouts.
These are Powerball, Megamillions and SuperLotto Plus. In addition, there are thousands of lotteries spread all around the globe offered by many countries. Many of the lotteries are of the type whose top cash payouts roll over when there is no winner on that particular draw date. This method can lead to several draws without winners consequently adding up to a top prize in the hundreds of millions of dollars after several non-winning draws. The big three US lotteries follow this system.
Since I am US based, I’m not all that familiar with current lottery prizes being offered in the overseas lottery market. I will, therefore, confine myself to talking about our system here in the US.
The Big Three US Lotteries
Powerball is a consortium of 44 States and coordinated by the Multi-State Lottery Association. MegaMillions is a consortium of 46 US States and is also coordinated by the Multi-State Lottery Association. Both games use a two-drum system whereby players try to pick 5 out of 70 possible white balls Plus 1 out of a possible 25 red balls also known as the “Powerball” or the "MegaBall" as the case may be.
The current price for each ticket for both Powerball and Megamillions is $2.00. Official drawings for Powerball take place every Wednesday and Saturday evening at 8 pm PST (Pacific Standard Time) while MegaMillions drawings happen every Tuesday and Friday at the same time, 8 pm PST.
The California SuperLotto is played only in California and available only to state residents. However, they are also available to others via the indirect method of participating in lottery pools. The SuperLotto Official Drawing takes place on Wednesday & Saturday evenings also at 8 pm, PST.
Joining a lottery pool is an easy answer to participating in the big US lotteries even though it is illegal to do so in most non-lottery states of which there are six. The six states are Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, and Utah.
How their residents go about claiming a prize in case of a win is something to think about. This begs the question: if a pool member belonging to a non-lottery state wins a share of a pool’s big win such as the Powerball, would regulators in the state act? This question has not been clearly defined and It’s not clear or guaranteed that the state would not.
Free Lottery Pools
As I mentioned earlier there are lottery pool scams and frauds. But it seems like this problem has waned with the introduction of FREE lottery pools. As the name implies members in the pool do not need to send in money to join in the pool.
The fact that these pools do not ask their members to send in money gives them legitimacy because they cannot be classified as gambling. The members are not betting their own funds in expectation of a favorable result. They are joining free-of-charge for that hopeful big win. If the big win never comes they have lost nothing.
Using Google to do an online search of “free lottery pools” you will come up with only one website that apparently is the only one with a true lottery pool as we understand it. If you plug in the words “free lottery tickets” more than a dozen will pop up. There is a difference between “free lottery pools” and “free lottery tickets”.
A true free lottery pool is one where a non-paying member joins and shares in all the tickets bought by the pool and participates in the winnings equally with other non-paying members.
The participating member is not required to pay anything to join. It’s totally FREE! The pool may also offer certain types of games or activities, again free-of-charge, allowing members to acquire points or tokens to increase their share of the pool’s winnings should there be winnings.
I have personally joined one such lotto pool and I’ve followed and been with them for some years now. I continue to be a standing member of this pool during all this time participating in all the three US major lotteries with tickets that I’ve never paid for.
A Google search for the keywords “free lottery pool” and “free lotto pool” returns only one website. This is freelotterypool.com. This is also the lotto pool I'm in. This US-based website appears to be the only legitimate site offering a true lottery pool.
Before I joined freelotterypool.com I had a long series of email exchanges with its owner/operator asking many questions about his operations. In the end, I felt comfortable enough with his operation to join his pool. The owner/manager actually goes out and physically buys tickets on Powerball, MegaMilllions, and SuperLotto every week, every draw.
When questioned how a US-based pool is able to operate legally, the owner of freelotterypool.com states that his site does not violate any gambling laws since no money is taken from participants. No bets mean no gambling.
Free Lottery Tickets
In this type of online “free lottery pools," the member selects his own free ticket numbers or selects a ‘quick pick’ ticket, free-of-charge, and takes all the winnings if his ticket number wins the pool prize. Normally the pool runs its own lottery and is not associated with a major country lottery.
Pool prizes are usually much smaller than major lotteries but the odds of winning are much better. You would think that this is a better deal since you pick the numbers and if you win you do so in totality without having to split the winnings with anyone.
These types of pools are not bad, the only downside is that the prizes are smaller than those offered by the US’s big three and it is also here where one must be very careful about fraudulent sites.
Three Simple Steps
How Do Free Lotteries Derive Income?
All lottery pools that offer free tickets or free memberships in a pool derive their income from advertisements. They fund their operations from advertisers who place ads on their sites. The management of one free lottery pool website actually goes out and buys tickets using a major portion of their ad revenues for this purpose.
Since free lottery pools are free to join why not join as many of them as possible? The more pools one belongs to the better the chances of being a winner. The only problem with this, when put into practice, is that one has to visit each and every website almost on a daily basis to enter each lottery drawing. But then why not? If one has the free time!
Odds of Winning in the Big Three
The odds of winning a Powerball Jackpot are 1 in 293 million. The odds of winning the Megamillions Jackpot is 1 in 259 million and the odds of winning the SuperLotto Plus Jackpot is 1 in 41,416,000. These are indeed awesome numbers to think about. If one were to buy two tickets then his odds get better at 2 in 293 million for Powerball, 2 in 259 million for Megamillions and 2 in 41,416,000 SuperLotto. It keeps on getting better as one buys more than two or three tickets per drawing date per lottery.
Assuming you would like to improve your odds on every lottery and every draw by buying 4 tickets every time, you would then have to buy 24 tickets each and every month to actively participate in all three jumbo lotteries. The improvement in odds from 1 to 4 is really insignificant when you are looking at million odds against you, but still, people buy not 4 or 5 or 6 but multiple tickets.
When compared to the millions of odds against the player the ticket numbers mean little as an improvement in the possibility of winning. This gives one an awesome view of how difficult it is to win a lottery Jackpot.
Let’s go back to the example of 4 tickets. If you were to buy four tickets per lottery per draw, this would mean you would have to spend $48 monthly on lottery tickets. Also, of more consequence is the inconvenience of having to physically go out of the way every week to visit places where the tickets are sold. It’s not so bad if they are all sold in one place but sometimes they are not.
This is a particularly serious drawback for people who are residents of non-lottery states where they have to somehow go out-of-state to purchase tickets.
Tickets can also be bought in bulk but doing so would mean investing substantial amounts of money. There is a simple answer to the issue of being able to increase your odds in the big three without having to do the physical buying yourself. Join a lottery pool.

Vicky, it doesn't cost a penny to join the lottery pool. When you become a member of the pool you can just click to join each big lottery draw with more than one ticket that the pool has bought and it does not cost you anything. You will be advised via email for each lottery drawing and all you need to do is click on the appropriate lottery pool and you're in. That simple.
