Hi guys, Mr Awbery here bringing you yet another article on the series of FIFA - this time FIFA 20. Ihave decided to be a nice egg and share with you my experiences on how to earn money on Ultimate Team on FIFA - This can be applied to both PS4 and XBOX, although I am playing XBOX ONE, so do not quote me on player prices or anything to do with price ranges, as I know they differ.


Now, i will detail the ways i have found to make the most money on Ultimate team. Don't get me wrong, I am not the best player, or trader on FIFA, but i have managed to turn a nice profit constantly since the games release, and have gone through many teams which I consider to be above average. Just as a little insight, I am terrible for maintaining teams. I get bored when i have played a few matches with them, and end up selling them on for less than i bought. This is an inherrant fault within my personality, and it prevents me from ever obtaining the elite players which i so desperately seek. However, i still manage to make money constantly by playing games, and therefore i feel as though I am more than qualified to comment on how to make money.

And one more thing - I have read the articles of other Hubbers, and in no way am i trying to discredit what they say, or take any ideas which they write on. Personally I believe that most of these articles are fantastic, and all I want is to offer a different perspective on how to make money.

Play games, Fool!

Well the first one is pretty much self explanatory. Play games! The easiest and most consistent way of making money is to play games. However, where you play these games can dictate significantly your income on Ultimate Team. I believe the optimal way to make money from games will be as follows:

Squad Battles:
Yes, unfortunately, if you are really interested in making maximum profit throughout the week, squad battles has to feature, even to a small extent. Just playing a couple of games a day can net you fairly decent rewards, and in all honesty, it's just a time investment. If you can bring yourself to do it, I would really advise it.

Division Rivals:
This is the mode you will be wanting to grind, as the higher ranking you can attain during the week, the better the prospect of getting good rewards, and also earning you a qualification spot for Weekend League.

Weekend League

Now, im absolutely not making a judgement on your ability to play 30 games in such a short space of time, however, it is the optimal way to earn coins over the weekend. Starting my team in April 2018, I accrued a god squad (valued over 10 million coins) by getting extremely high placings in Weekend League (My best was T12 in the world). It's understandable that this isn't attainable for everyone, but even a placing in Weekend League will give you maximum reward for time spent. Play as many as you can, and be consistent, and you will garner the coins you are looking for.

59th Minute Bid

Now this method will probably have been worked to death by this FIFA, but i have still made large profits on players in which I buy at the 59th minute. The tactic is to scroll to the 59th minute, so players who are put up for an hour constantly appear when you change pages. If you know the market properly, you can identify a player who has been put up for too low, and purchase him to turn a profit. This method also works because (and i know it is evil, but someone will capitalise!). I know this is a long shot, but you can look for these whilst picking up players for cheaper than their sale value. Sometimes owners just want to recover a little cash, and therefore don't post them for their actual sale value, preferring instead to get quick money. You can use this to your advantage, pay the price, and sell them on for a tidy profit.

This method only works if you have intimate knowledge of the market, and the best way to gain this is to use the website FUTWIZ.com This website has a database of all the players in FIFA who are gold, and details their exact price, and even monitors price changes between days. It is an absolute key element of successfully trading, if you do not have the time to actually peruse the market yourself.

Bid, not Buy it now!

My main advice is be patient. Do not constantly buy players now, as they are often higher, and sometimes significantly higher, than the players actual worth. Take your time to bid on players, and you will mostly find them for much cheaper. This is practically the only way to legitimately turn a profit by purchasing a player. There are not many times when you actually find a player who is BIN (buy it now) for cheaper than what he sells for, it just doesn't make sense, as he would be the first card to be bought. So, look for a player with no BIN, and a low starting price for his worth. The best players to bid on are players who have a bid start price of 150, due to the fact he will definitely not sell for more than his BIN price, and will 9 times out of 10 sell for cheaper. Whether this is enough of a difference to turn a profit is down to the individual card, and who is bidding. Always be cautious not to be drawn into a bidding war for a player who is not worth that much! I have known people ask their friends to bid on the player to increase the price, so just be careful, and know the players worth before entering a bidding war!

Be Aware of EA's Percentage

Ea take 5% of the coins made from a sale item. Therefore, especially on players worth tens of thousands of coins, it make a significant difference to a sale, even leading to a loss of money on a player you have bought for less. Lets look at an example...

(This example is hypothetical, and not actual prices)

Say you buy a Walker for 70000 coins, and he sells for 72000 you would think you would make a modest 2000 coin profit. Think again.

Original price : 70000

Sale Price : 72000

EA percentage = 70000 x 0.05 = 3500

Actual profit made = -1500

Therefore you would have to sell Walker for above 73500 to make any profit whatsoever. If you are buying the player to keep, then this does not affect the purchase at all. It is only when you try to sell him on, that the 5% is taken away. So just be aware that EA does take a percentage of sales. I do not understand the reason why they do this... In a real auction house the place takes a commission to fund itself, but the coins are virtual, they have no monitary value outside the game, and therefore there is no need for EA to take any of the sale price from you. But that's another arguement

Price Fixing

This next method is one that is frowned upon by many of the FIFA community. However, this article is to tell you how to make money on Ultimate Team, not how to be liked by the community!

This method involves buying all of a specific player (who should be quite rare) and then reposting each one at a higher price. It only works with players who are not very abundant, and ultimately works amazingly with In Form players. If you have the money, purchase all of an inform player during the week he is out ( It will cost a lot of cash, and is only advised for players with the money to carry this out. Failure to buy all of them will result in you only having a certain amount of the market, and the plan will fail). When the card is no longer being released by EA (As in forms are only put in packs for 1 week) then begin reposting them for a higher price than purchased. Of course other players will begin to sell theirs, so you have to purchase the cards which are undercutting you. It is a risky tactic, but when it is employed properly, you can earn masses of cash each week.

As an example (once again i will use fictitious players and figures)

Say Slimani plays a blinder for Monaco and scores four.

His inform card is released, and 50 are put into circulation.

Imagine his going price is 12000. Buy all of these cards, and it will cost a whopping 600,000 coins.

However, sell each of these on for 16-18000, when he is no longer being placed in packs

18000 x 50 = 900,000 a profit of 300,000

Obviously this is a risky method, and may not work, but it is just another tactic i have seen employed. This can also be extremely useful to purchase In Forms in preparation for the Squad Building Challenges which I’ll discuss below.

Be Nocturnal!

Now guys, i know that may sound like a ridiculous title. But i have found that late at night ,when the amount of players online drops, there are some deals to be had which you would never find during the day..

This is due to the fact that the decrease in players online leads to a higher number of auctions left unbidded. If someone posts a player for 6 hours at 8pm, then it will finish at 2am. Now, usually a player would not go for much less than what he is worth, people will bid, but at night, when there are less players on, there are many cards left without bids, or very low bids on them. I am not encouraging staying up at night (ESPECIALLY IF YOUR STILL AT SCHOOL) but bear in mind that cards finishing in the middle of the night may go for less.

Using the flip side of this, when there are more players online, there will be an increase in the want for a card. It is simple supply and demand logic, with more players online, there will be more players to bid on cards. So to maximise your profit, pick up players late at night , sell them on during the day (or the weekend when everybody is at home) and you might just find you begin to make money!

Small Profit is still Profit

I understand that players on Ultimate team want to make shed loads of money, in a relatively small space of time. It is unlikely that you will find a player worth 80000 for 10000. Actually, it is near impossible. So instead of busting a gut trying to find that one gem of a player, consider turning lots of small profits. If you can pick up players who sell on for even 500-1000 profit, you will quickly notice your virtual wallet bulging.

It may sound obvious, but if you find a card selling for 5000, that you know you can pick up for between 3500 and 4000, then constantly do this. There is no point neglecting an easy profit, and if it is better to turn small quick profits than huge, but time consuming ones.

For example, If i buy a Neymar for 50,000 coins, and attempt to sell him at 60,000... when i know full well that he is only worth 57,000... I am preventing the acquisition of more sales. I might as well sell him for 56,000, making a profit of around 3500 (remember that EA takes 5%) and move on to another player who will make profit. If i tried to sell him for 60,000 i may be waiting hours, and this will make the process very slow. It may seem like you are missing out on coins, but the speed at which you turn around sales is key to making lots of moula!

And finally, as a quick tip, just because you are bidding 50,000 for a player, doesn't mean you will get a higher profit. I find my biggest profits come between the ranges of 5-10000, due to the high demand, allowing me to shift them on quickly for a relatively small profit, but to do it lots of times.

Squad Builder Challenges!

Squad builder challenges . The premise is very simple , you use players from you're club , and complete tasks which require you to create a full or partial squad , with certain requirements such as nationality , chemistry and league played in . You receive a reward for doing a single challenge , and then a larger reward for doing a group of challenges (I'll refer to them as a set ) .

It's very important to note , that the players will be removed from you're club . So the task becomes using the worst or least valuable players in order for the reward to be worthwhile . These can range from packs , to coins , to kits , and even to special IF versions of cards .

I believe this is a fantastic feature as it means that you no longer should discard ANY player , as they will no doubt be useful to you later on .

One of the major ways people such as RUNTHEFUTMARKET have been making money, is to understand the release patterns of the SBC's, and capitalise on the huge increase in price of players needed. A simple example is if there is an SBC requiring French Players. They will increase significantly once it gets released. My honest advice is to hold onto players who don't have a lot of intrinsic value (I'm thinking who are near discard) and wait for a corresponding SBC to come around. Yes, you will be sat on a bit of money, but it's pretty much guaranteed profit if the SBC release goes your way.

Draft Mode

Draft mode has been included since FIFA 16 , but it is a mode I not only highly enjoy , but make a lot of money from too . I enjoy it mainly due to the fact that you get to play with players you may not have the chance to, due to high market value, but also allows you to uncover some secret beasts you would've never have used!

The premise is that you draft a team from a selection of players (description of how this works below ) and compete in a knockout tournament , in which the further you advance , the higher the prize reward .

Before we begin , you must be warned that the tournament is 15,000 entry , or a draft token . You will receive this back in packs regardless if you lose in the first round , but the conversion rate between packs and coins is not 1:1 . On the previous mode I made a lot of money through this , as if you win it , you receive well over 70,000 worth of packs . These come in different varieties , but most notably all player all rare packs are the ones which garner most money . As with any packs , it's a gamble . But making your money back is fairly simple , as you just sell everything you pack from the tourney , and even on two wins you will break even most of the time .

Tips for draft mode :

  • Play a formation you are comfortable with . When you are given the 5 choices of formation , find one that you know how to play . There's no point drafting in a 3-4-2-1 if you are inexperienced playing the formation . Trust me you will get exposed by better players . That being said , I highly advise playing multiple formations in the normal mode , so you understand how each works .


  • Keep your options open . I've seen so many people only draft one league , then get someone like Ronaldo late in the draft who they can't use


  • Perfect links between two players are insanely useful . If you can get two players from the same club , or same league and nationality , I highly advise doing this . It gives you a lot of wiggle room with your players , and when drafting , this is very important .


  • Substitutes are super impactful . Drafting your team and suddenly land ibrahimovic , even though he doesn't fit your squad ? Draft him anyway , place him on the bench , and bring him on as a super impact sub ! (Note works with any player , not just bearded 6'5 Swedish powerhouses )


  • Do not sub on 1st minute . Unless there is a very specific reason , do not being all your subs on early . In this FIFA especially , players will be out of stamina late into the game , and therefore subs are hugely important to inject pace into the later stages of the game . My preference is 1 at half time , 1 at 60 and 1 at 75 as a standard measure (I generally don't change the game if I'm winning ) .


  • Draft smart . As with building a normal squad , keep in mind what your team looks like it aims to do . If you draft a beastly target man , try to then mould your team to utilise him . Likewise , if you draft a super speedy striker , aim to build your team to properly facilitate him (maybe with some slower , more technical players )


  • Do not underestimate defenders . One of my sleeper tips, but I know many people including myself draft top to bottom , ie, we always draft strikers or wingers first . My advice is if you get the option of an amazing defender , take it over a striker . I find defenders much more difficult to draft in FUTDraft , and therefore urge you to draft decent defenders given the chance , and goalkeepers !!


  • Icons are.... Icons . If you get the opportunity to draft an icon my advice is to do so . They receive normal chemistry with everyone , and a perfect link with just nationality . The free up so many links that it's just crazy not to use them . Also , who doesn't want to hear Shearer!!!! Screamed as he slots home ?

Here's my team: adler(84), hummels(85), pique(86), lahm(87), cole(85), vidal(86), fabregas(86), muller(85), RVP(89), cavani(87), rooney(87). Subs:- modric(85), Mario Gomez(86), walcott(81), Jesus navas(85), ter stegen(80). I have some other 75-85 rated players in my club for chemistry. Can you tell who else I need in my team, please? Also, let me give you guys a tip, buy this player called something like blazcykowski. He has 93 pace and 85 odd in dribbling. He has four star skills too. His overall rating is 83. Also, easy way to win games is to have fast LM and RM, and pass the ball to him. Get him to run straight, and then from the sides, cross it in. Have a good header like Klose in the middle too. This worked for me.

Unfortunately I do not share your attitude, although I do agree with your points... The difference between Biabiany, and Iniesta, is obviously the passing attribute of both. Wide men should be fast, and that is where biabiany plays, Iniesta will be the man cutting defenses open with passes, not running round them

Every player has a different role in a team, and for me, having a team consisting of pure pace will ensure you lose games. Of course you will win some, there is no doubt, but a well rounded team of passers, defenders, finishers and pacey players will churn out consistently better performances

For me am simple , i don't waste money on all this top players they are just a waste of time , having Iniesta or Ozil in your team is a waste of time since if you play a friend online and he uses lets say Bibainy who is 96 in pace Iniesta can't be effective so therefore , sell sell sell , make money , get good players like CR7 , Messis , Ribery , Robben , Neymar and players who can actually run like hell and yet give you goals when playing online. I noe you want to have your favorite players , ba remember this is a game .

@Chris Anderson - Thanks for commenting man I am sure people will appreciate you sharing that, oh and any profit is a profit. As you rightly said, you may only make 250 per healing card, but the sheer rate of turnover indicates you will make more profit than holding out for that one big sale

@Kev - Thanks mate, In all honesty I never really put masses of thought into it, I had the negative view already inset of "WHY THE HELL ARE EA TAKING MY CASH" so that blocked essentially intelligent thought which you have put forward, makes perfect sense to me now!

@Mr Awberry, I hope this explains why EA taxes you 5%.

First I'll explain the effects of when coins are taken out:

When the amount of coins within the game (or economy in real life) are reduced, the relative value of the coins increase. e.g. if previously there were $100 in the country Kevtopia and iPods sold for $5 and through time, the amount of money in Kevtopia increased to $200 then the iPod would have to be sold for $10 in order to be of the same value as previously. This means that the price of things in that place would be constantly rising if the amount of money available for people to spend also increases. To prevent this scenario from happening the government of Kevtopia would try to tax away money (called leakage in economics) so that there will still be $100 in the market.

In the world of FIFA it's the same thing. At the start of the game release there may be only 10 million coins in the entire game. But as people start joining and spending money to buy packs, the number of coins in the market increases (coin gifts that are included in packs) so slowly if the amount of coins keep increasing then, 10 coins previously would have bought more than later on. Thus, EA taxes to prevent this from happening.

Another reason is that we'd have to buy more packs = greater profit (real money this time!) for EA lol

Also as a quick side note, ive found o win players for a far lower price if I put any opposing bidder on the spot... I.e. not everyone will be prepared with a maximum bid they are going to go to... so watch items without bidding. Put your first challenge in at 30 seconds as this prevents the price getting too high long before the auction ends. This can save thousands of coins in some situations, and a saving is essentially a profit :D

A good way I found to make quick money is to bid on any and all Gold +4 healing cards with a 150 coin start. Once you've left it a while, you could have won anywhere from 3 or 4 cards to 25 or 30. Quickly list them for around 400 BIN for a 250 coin profit within minutes. I can turn around upwards of 7000 coins an hour just with this method... not gonna make anybody a millionaire overnight but especially useful for some seed money for slightly bigger purchases :)

@Carletto - purchasing coins and packs, or playing a hell of a lot of FIFA I assume

@newb - this is due to the rarity of the card. Normal cards have a much higher "find" rate in packs, and therefore are worth less than their TOTW counterpart because the TOTW is simply rarer. Plus the increase in stat will always drive the price up, but it's mostly rarity.

it is an easy analysis why there is a tax. the tax acts as a sink to control the economy to prevent coins from losing its value. when there are more supply of coins in circulation than there is to spend, it loses its value (supply more than demand). hence, to ensure that supply doesn't get more than demand, is to reduce total amount of 'supply/circulation' of coins in the economy through this 5% tax that is incurred among trades.

The 5% tax is so that the market is stable. Would you like it if you bought a player for 1m yesterday and today hes fallen to 900k and then tomorrow hes at 800k and then next week hes at 250k? No. The tax is to balance the money going into the economy and coming out of the economy.

There is no other reason for it. Its actually a very logical idea.

@qwerty - that is a good analysis of why they may do it, however I would sincerely hope that EA would not be so underhand as to take money out of the market specifically so people bought more packs with real money.

@FUTGamer - Yeah i understand but why? What is the problem with being able to make profits on players by trading? That would reward players for having the knowledge of the market and spotting a bargain, and would essentially allow players who are good at trading to make a little bit more. I know most of my money is made from trading (especially pre release) so for them to take a "tax" on virtual money is just nonsense in my opinion

I honestly don't understand why EA tax your virtual sales. A real auction house taxes in order to make profit themselves, which in turn pays for maintenance of the building, employee wages and general upkeep etc. EA do it, and I cannot fathom a reason as to why, its virtual currency!
