Rare Animals to Hunt -- or be hunted by if you're not careful!

Welcome to the Far Cry 3 Crafting Guide. Here I will list the top-tier items requiring Path of the Hunter animal reagents and where the specific rare animal mission you need is so you can fast-track to the items you want.

We'll begin with Equipment, covering One Horn for the Extended Wallet, the Undying Bear for the Extended Rucksack and the Black Panther for the Extended Syringe Kit.

Following that you'll be guided through the Ammo section: The Extended Ammo Pouch's Golden Tiger, Blood Komodo for the Extended Grenade Pouch, White Belly Tapir for the Extended Munitions Pouch and the Yellow Neck Cassowary for the Flamethrower's Extended Fuel Sling.

Finally, I'll show you where you need to go to find the Maneater Shark mission to complete your Extended Arrow Quiver!

Top Tips!

  • Remember to gather Amber Leaves and craft Hunter's Instinct syringes to ease the location of your prey. It also stops timid animals from fleeing: great for identifying the White Belly Tapir.
  • Alternatively, craft the Animal Repellent syringe to roam around the designated area without being attacked by predator animals, leaving you a guaranteed 1 on 1 when you find the rare!

Far Cry 3 Crafting - Extended Rucksack Mission Location - Undying Bear.

You'll find the rare mission for the Undying Bear, required for the Extended Rucksack at the Cradle Gas outpost, to the south-east of the Rust Yard outpost and the south-west of the Old Mines outpost: almost in the middle of the four radio towers. After getting the rare animal mission from the billboard, head out and hunt down the so-called Undying Bear.

If you live, skin the scarred beast and -- providing you've crafted the previous rucksacks -- you'll be able to craft the Extended Rucksack with a whole 96 slots for lots of loot! Note: Upon killing the bear, the mission dialog tells you to skin it to craft the Extended Fuel Sling. This is erroneous text, it's most definitely for the rucksack!

Far Cry 3 Crafting - Extended Wallet Mission Location - One Horn.

You'll find the rare mission for One Horn, required for the Extended Wallet at the Camp Murder outpost, just north-west of Badtown. After getting the rare animal mission from the billboard, head out and hunt down the one-horned buffalo.

Contrary to what the handbook entry says about him being aggressive, if you land a good hit on One Horn before he notices you, he'll get scared and try to run! Once he's dead skin beast and -- providing you've crafted the previous rucksacks -- you'll be able to craft the Extended Wallet: capable of holding a mighty $10,000!

Far Cry 3 Crafting - Extended Syringe Kit Mission Location - Black Panther.

You'll find the rare mission for the Black Panther, required for the Extended Syringe Kit, to the south-east of Dr. Earnhardt's mansion (the top-west side of the island). Head to the location shown in the screenshots and hunt down the Black Panther with the bow. You will need to have captured Orphan Point outpost for it to be accessible.

If you survive, skin your trophy and you'll then be able to craft the Extended Syringe Kit (if of course you've crafted the pre-requisites from regular animals!)

Far Cry 3 Crafting - Extended Ammo Pouch Mission Location - Golden Tiger.

You'll find the rare mission for the Golden Tiger, required for the Extended Ammo Pouch, at the Mosquito Yard outpost, south of Amanaki Village. Head to the location shown in the screenshots and stalk the Golden Tiger with the provided bow. When I did it there were two tigers in the area: the Golden Tiger and one regular Sumatran Tiger.

Once you've slain and skinned the Golden Tiger, you'll then be the proud new owner of the Extended Ammo Pouch... if you've crafted all the other ammo pouches leading up to it!

Far Cry 3 Crafting - Extended Grenade Pouch Mission Location - Blood Komodo.

You'll find the rare mission for the Blood Komodo, required for the Extended Grenade Pouch, at the Cliffside Overlook outpost, south-east of Amanaki outpost. Head to the location shown in the screenshots and locate and kill the Blood Komodo with the provided bow. There will be around three Komodos in the area: the Blood Komodo and two regular Komodo.

If you've crafted all the previous grenade pouches, once you've slain and obtained the Blood Komodo skin, you'll be the proud new owner of the Extended Grenade Pouch!

Far Cry 3 Crafting - Extended Munitions Pouch Mission Location - White Belly Tapir.

You'll find the rare mission for the White Belly Tapir, required for the Extended Munitions Pouch, at the Rust Yard outpost, to the east of the Amanaki outpost, and just south-east of a radio tower. Head to the location marked in the screenshots and hunt the White Belly Tapir as if you're playing Turok! That is if Turok featured strange half-elephant, half-pig like creatures, such as tapir (OK, they are kind of cute, but for this mission you need to hate them as we have to kill one!)

Following your wild goose-chase through the undergrowth, you'll now be the proud new owner of an Extended Munitions Pouch -- that is of course, if you've crafted all the other munitions pouches!

Far Cry 3 Crafting - Extended Fuel Sling Mission Location - Yellow Neck Cassowary.

You'll find the rare mission for the Yellow Neck Cassowary, required for the Extended Fuel Sling, at the AM-12 outpost, to the west of Camp Murder (the north-east most outpost, next to the radio tower). Head to the location shown in the screenshots and drop the Yellow Neck Cassowary with the sniper rifle provided if you don't have one already. I had the signature bolt action .50 cal sniper rifle so this was the easiest Path of the Hunter mission. He/she didn't have a chance to run away: it just dropped dead with one shot, but I'm sure this is still very easy with the provided sniper rifle, since cassowaries are not the fiercest of opponents!

Following your over-sized turkey hunt, skin it and -- if you've crafted all the prerequisites -- create your Extended Fuel Sling!

Far Cry 3 Crafting - Extended Arrow Quiver Mission Location - Maneater.

Cue the Jaws music! You'll find the rare mission for Maneater, required for the Extended Arrow Quiver, at the Kell's Boat Repairs outpost, to the south-west of the south-eastern most radio tower. Head to the location shown in the screenshots and hunt down Maneater from the patrol boat with a bow! Use Hunter's Instinct syringes to see all the sharks in the area and then use your camera to find the one with the hook under its mouth. If a shark comes close to your boat, look out for the one that is a dark reddish-brown. Be careful not to run him over with the boat: I killed a normal shark this way by accident and I'm sure if you killed Maneater this way you'll fail the mission!

After your Jaws-esque fishing trip, you'll be able to craft the Extended Arrow Quiver if you've already crafted the previous arrow quiver iterations.

i cleared the orphan point without detection how i did it: first i took out the sniper and let a leopard kill the rest of the pirates.

Brooke on December 11, 2013:

Yup, if you hit the man-eater with a boat it fails the mission. I saw a shark and went to move the boat to get a better view, didn't know the mat-eater was under it

B on May 26, 2013:

When searching for Maneatter, have a couple of deep dive on you. Which is good for any shark hunt.

Thank you for this amazing guide!!

Bridget on March 13, 2013:

Friggin' love this game. Your sight has tons of useful info! Kudos to you.

Inferno on March 09, 2013:

No problem, I thought it had always been there at first too. But I have gone through the game about 6 times (up til midway at least). And it was always unlocked after that. It's just different cause the flyer shows up on the other island instead of where the point is captured.

Thanks Inferno, will update to mention that one needs to capture Orphan Point post :)!

Inferno on March 03, 2013:

You forgot to mention that the Black Panther hunt is unlocked by capturing the Orphan Point post.

Thanx Bro For Amazing Guide for Amazing World Epic Game....

nate on February 09, 2013:

amazing jib thanks for all the help

Jerry on January 16, 2013:

Another good tip is to craft a Deadly Hunter syringe, especially since most of the animals take a lot of arrows to kill. This way it only takes one or two! :)

And great guide, by the way!

Thanks Smithy, glad it was of help! Sihp, I haven't included the Albino Crocodile as it isn't needed to craft anything. Is it needed for an achievement? If so, I'll include it :D.

noname on December 25, 2012:

Omg i already killed 3 crocodiles and their skin was useless!! I wanted to make my self something with it!!!

Smithy on December 25, 2012:

Can see a lot of work has gone into this page, thanks for the help:)

Sihp on December 22, 2012:

It doesn't have the albino crocodile here. =/

Nemdam (author) from United Kingdom on December 03, 2012:

Thanks for the kind words :)! Check back now and again, I've just finished adding all but One Horn and the Undying Bear. This game is indeed epic -- possibly the best game ever, I think. The Montreal studio really did a top-notch job. They said in their PC information post a while back that they went DRM light: in my opinion this game was designed perfectly to defeat piracy. Integrating the leaderboards for the challenges etc. in singleplayer was a great idea and makes people want to buy the game for all the features offered.

I have just started playing this EPIC game, and this Hub has given me some great info, many thanks, and rated up for the good read.
