Assassin is a more technical class due to martial arts that requires you to use different types of skill back and forth. A more simple way to play it is by focusing on traps by planting multiple stationary sentries and let it do the killing.

In case you're not aware, Assassin can open a locked chest without needing any keys.

1. Lightning Trapsin Build

Trapsin specializes in planting traps, letting it do the damage. Either you lure the enemies to move within the trap's range or just directly plant it near them. It focuses on laying sentries that shoots lightning.


Skills

  • Lightning Sentry (Max): The main skill for this build. The planted sentry shoots lightning in a straight line that pierces through enemies. Multiple planted Lightning Sentries can cause massive devastation to mobs and bosses.
  • Death Sentry (Max): Death Sentry consumes a nearby corpse to execute corpse explosion that deals damage based on the corpse's life before it was killed. This sentry shoots lightning as well but not as damaging as Lightning Sentry.
  • Shock Web (Max): Max this skill to give damage synergy to Lightning Sentry.
  • Charged Bolt Sentry (Max): Max this skill to give damage synergy to Lightning Sentry.
  • Shadow Master (Max): Can assist you in dealing damage and distracting opponents.
  • Burst of Speed (Remaining skill points): For increasing movement speed. It comes in handy when traveling.


Stat Points Distribution

  • Strength: Just put enough until requirement for gear is met.
  • Dexterity: This build is using a shield. Put points until max block is attained.
  • Vitality: Majority of points should be placed here.
  • Energy: Optional since mana potions and equipment can cover for this.


Recommended Equipment Attributes

  • One hand weapon
  • Shield
  • Body armor with Enigma rune word (Jah, Ith, Ber)
  • Plus to Lightning damage
  • Plus to Assassin traps
  • Enhanced defense
  • Increase maximum life
  • Increase maximum mana
  • Increase all attributes
  • Increase all skills
  • Increase all resistance
  • Faster Run/Walk
  • Cannot be frozen

Monsters that is immune to lightning damage can easily be dealt with by hiring an Act 2 Desert Mercenary and give it a polearm with Infinity Rune Word (Ber, Mal, Ber, Ist).


2. Kicksin Build

The most simple martial arts build for assassin since you don't need to use combo or know how assassin's martial arts mechanics for it to be effective. You can just mindlessly spam Dragon Talon until the enemy dies. This build relies on boots instead of weapons in dealing damage. Weapon affinities still works though.


Skills

  • Dragon Talon (Max): The main skill that you'll be using to deal damage from beginning until the endgame. Dragon Talon uses flurry of kicks to deals high damage with excellent attack rating. It's really effective boss killer. When it comes to your equipment, its damage is based on your boots and not on your weapon.
  • Venom (Max): The buff that you'll be using most of the time. Venom grants extra poison damage to your attacks that works with Dragon Talon. This is useful when dealing with physical immune monsters.
  • Burst of Speed (Max): Use this buff to make your travel time more convenient.
  • Shadow Warrior (Max): Serves as your duplicate and aids you in dealing damage.
  • Cobra Strike (1 point or more): Your only charge-up skill that lets you steal life and mana.
  • Dragon Flight (1 point): Used as gap closer. 1 point in this skill is enough.
  • Death Sentry (Remaining skill points): You'll be using Death Sentry for physical immune monsters. It has a corpse explosion like capability that deals damage based on the corpse life before it was killed.


Stat Points Distribution

  • Strength: Just put enough until requirement for gear is met.
  • Dexterity: This build is using a shield. Put points until max block is attained.
  • Vitality: Majority of points should be placed here.
  • Energy: Don't put points here.


Recommended Equipment Attributes

  • Shadow Dancer Myrmidon Greaves: It deals the highest kick damage among all boots.
  • Weapon with Last Wish rune word (Jah, Mal, Jah, Sur, Jah, Ber): It has might aura for increasing your damage and crushing blow.
  • Shield
  • Body armor with Fortitude rune word (El, Sol, Dol, Lo)
  • Elemental Damage
  • Enhanced defense
  • Increase attack rating
  • Life stolen per hit
  • Increase maximum life
  • Increase all attributes
  • Increase all skills
  • Increase all resistance
  • Faster Run/Walk
  • Cannot be frozen


3. Phoenix Martial Artist Build

Also known as elementalist assassin. Phoenix build is the most complicated assassin to play since it requires more familiarization on details including your muscle memory for switching different skills. As a reward for all the trouble, this build is proficient in unleashing fire, lightning, and cold damage. Having the ability to unleash 3 kinds of damaging element means you won't have any problems dealing with monsters that has immunity.


Skills

  • Phoenix Strike (Max): The swiss army knife of this build. The type of damage it does is based on the number of charges you release. Releasing a single charge will cast a meteor that leaves a fire on the ground. This is useful for high life enemies like bosses. Two charges release will cast multiple chain lightning that can clean up mobs. While releasing 3 charges will cast flurry of ice bolts that freezes or chills mobs. This is good for crowd control.
  • Fists of Fire (Max): Max this to increase the fire damage of Phoenix Strike.
  • Claws of Thunder (Max): Max this to increase the lightning damage of Phoenix Strike.
  • Blades of Ice (Max): Max this to increase the cold damage of Phoenix Strike.
  • Shadow Warrior (Max): Will mimic your moves on this build. This will make you deal more elemental damage per second.
  • Burst of Speed (Remaining skill points): Increases your attack speed and movement speed.


Stat Points Distribution

  • Strength: Just put enough until requirement for gear is met.
  • Dexterity: Just put enough until requirement for gear is met.
  • Vitality: Majority of points should be placed here since this is a melee build.
  • Energy: No need to put points here.


Recommended Equipment Attributes

  • Dual class-class weapon with Chaos rune word (Fal, Ohm, Um): This gives you an option to use Whirlwind.
  • Body armor with Enigma rune word (Jah, Ith, Ber)
  • Plus to Fire damage
  • Plus to Lightning damage
  • Plus to Cold damage
  • Enhanced defense
  • Increase maximum life
  • Increase maximum mana
  • Life stolen on hit
  • Mana stolen on hit
  • Increase all attributes
  • Increase all skills
  • Increase all resistance
  • Faster Run/Walk
  • Cannot be frozen


4. Claw Build

A well verse build that deals high damage with great sustainability and defense. This is also known as "Vampire Build" for its ability to leach high amount of life and mana. This build is highly effective on dealing with bosses in the game.


Skills

  • Claw Mastery (Max): Increase the damage and attack rating when using claw-class weapon. It also provides chance to inflict critical strike. This is a powerful passive skill for claw wielders.
  • Weapon Block (9 points): Provides chance to block incoming attacks and some magic. It's like having a shield. Just a few things to take note of: This passive has diminishing returns so putting more points is not worth the investment. It only works if you're wielding claw-class weapon on both hands. Dexterity and chance to block doesn't increase its effect either.
  • Tiger Strike (Max): With Tiger Strike, you can deal insane amount of damage to big bosses.
  • Dragon Claw (Max): Will use your claw weapons as finishing move. The damage is good and cost very little mana.
  • Cobra Strike (3 skill points minimum): The skill that makes this build function like a vampire. It leaches the target's life and mana. Making the character highly sustainable.
  • Shadow Master (Max): Can distract some enemies and deal elemental damage for you so that you can handle physical immune enemies.
  • Burst of Speed (Remaining skill points): The buff Increases your attack speed for better damage per second. It also helps you travel fast.
  • Dragon Flight (1 point): For closing gap between you and your target.

  • Dual class-class weapon with Breath of the Dying rune word (Vex, Hel, El, Eld, Zod, Eth)
  • Body armor with Fortitude rune word (El, Sol, Dol, Lo)

  • Increase maximum mana
  • Life stolen on hit
  • Mana stolen on hit
  • Increase all attributes

5. Ninja Trapsin Build

A range focus Assassin that mainly throws shuriken like projectile called Blade Fury, then letting Death Sentry finish off the mobs.


Skills

  • Blade Fury (Max): The main damage dealer. This is a range attack and its damage is affected by equipped weapon.
  • Death Sentry (Max): Unleashes lightning damage which let you deal with physical immune monsters. More importantly, it can finish of mobs quickly with its corpse explosion effect.
  • Claw Mastery (Max): Max this to increase the damage of Blade Fury.
  • Weapon Block (9 skill points): See claw build for the description.
  • Shadow Master (Max): Can deal non-physical damage.
  • Burst of Speed (Remaining skill points): For massive speed boost. This is a ninja after all.

Same as Claw Build.
