With the Commander or EDH format becoming more and more competitive these days, games tend to become boring with players running the usual, expensive, staple cards and spoiling all the fun with quick game-ending combos. Sometimes, it could always be interesting to explore other card alternatives and bring them to play for a unique and new gaming experience. After all, Commander or EDH format was built initially for the purpose of casual and multi-player fun. Let's take look at some of the card combos we can use without emptying our pockets.

1. Blanket of Night + Kormus Bell + Archfiend of Depravity

First in our list is Blanket of Night and Kormus Bell. Blanket of Night is of course the cheap version of Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. With these two cards in play, you can turn the game to your advantage by swarming your opponents with your swamps or by exploiting your opponents' lands with something like Archfiend of Depravity. This combo is sort of Black's version of Kamahl, Fist of Krosa plus Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite.

2. Viridian Corrupter + Wrecking Ogre

Creatures with infect are feared in EDH games as they can kill one opponent with just a single attack. We will use Viridian Corrupter in this case and pump it up with +3/+3 plus doublestrike from Wrecking Ogre's bloodrush ability. That's ten poison counters in total and in an instant, one player is down. Or you can use your commander or general with power at least eight and swing for that 21 plus points of combat damage. Ouch.

3. Tree of Perdition + Sorceress Queen

A 0/13 creature is a very tough defender, plus it can turn one opponent's life from Forty to Thirteen. Maximize its potential by using Sorceress Queen or the legendary Vhati il -Dal to keep your opponents hanging for dear life.

4. Ashnod's Altar + Oathsworn Vampire + Initiates of the Ebon Hand + Bontu's Monument

This four-piece infinite life-sucking combo is worth the wait for any Black EDH Deck. First, play Bontu's Monument and gain life as you cast any creature. By sacrificing Oathsworn Vampire with Ashnod's Altar, we get two colorless mana which we feed to Initiates of the Ebon Hand to convert them two black mana. Use the two black mana to recast Oathsworn Vampire from your graveyard. You gain one life while your opponents lose one as you do this. Then repeat again, and again. Sweet.

5. Notion Thief + Whispering Madness

Discarding all cards in your opponents' hands and stealing their draws is what this fun combo brings to your game, and it costs only about two bucks.

There we have it, some of the cheap combos we can use for our EDH decks. Of course these combos may not hit the competitive grounds and have better versions of them, but it's always fun to try something new and creative. The next time we build a deck, forget about using those Paradox Engines and Palinchrons and try bringing something else our opponents are not ready for.

Magic is a vast world of knowledge exploration, it just might be waiting for someone like you to unlock and cast those spells.
