An Old Favourite
A kid's tea set is an old classic that has been enjoyed by generations of children. Children love to imitate the adult world and role playing games are a vital part of the learning process and help to stimulate a child's imagination.
Tea parties have made a fashionable return and it's now popular for adults to celebrate events - such as a baby shower or special announcement, with a Victorian style, traditional afternoon tea.
The Charm of a Child's Tea Set
The first record of toy tea-sets was in the sixteenth century. These came from Germany and were made of pewter and copper.
In the nineteenth century porcelain and faience (a glazed, artificially produced non-clay ceramic material) became widespread, so manufacturers began using it to make toys, including children's tea sets and dolls accessories. Child's tea sets made from porcelain and faience had been made in the 1700's but these were only for the children of the wealthy and also they had not yet reached the heights popularity they would achieve in the nineteenth century.
These early porcelain tea sets were very finely made and required the same sorts of skills needed to make a full sized tea set.
Later on the tea sets were made out of tin, bakelite and celluloid and eventually plastic.

An Alice in Wonderland Tea Party
Englishman Lewis Carroll wrote Alice in Wonderland in 1865 and it continues to delight children all over the world today.
An Alice in Wonderland tea party is a great idea for a childrens party. Sandwiches, cup cakes and and herbal or lemonade can be served in their own pint-sized tableware. The theme can be introduced with the invitaions and carried right through to the after-tea party games.
Alice costumes are easy to make-up and there can be plenty of crazy hats for the Mad Hatters.
