With nearly 100 champions in league of legends it is hard to decide exactly what champions are best to carry in a ranked setting. Keep in mind that playing these champions will not guarantee a victory, but they will give you an extreme edge leading to more wins than losses and in turn a higher elo. I mean who does not love some good elo?

Ahri is a mage carry champion that brings tons of damage and mobility to a team. She has a taunt and an incredible laning phase making her very valuable to any team she is on. Ahri is a pain to deal with in the mid lane. You will be calling out missing in action all game and Ahri will already be mid gank. She excels at ganking and if you camp bot with her, you will slaughter their bot lane and win games no problem.

  • Always gank with Ahri. If you do not gank with Ahri you are losing a lot of map presence and an early game advantage.

Ganking: Ahri has a great ultimate that allows her to gank lanes with ease. Her ult combined with her taunt allows you to dash into lane and easily pick up kills. Be sure that you clear you mid wave before ganking and try to avoid any wards. Ganking is a great way to sway the game in your teams favor, which makes Ahri a great option for carry ranked games.

Counters: Do not chose Ahri in situations where she is countered. If the other team has picked these champions be careful in playing Ahri because the lane will be extremely difficult.

  • LeBlanc
  • Galio
  • Viegar

This press R champion is extremely op and brings an insane amount of damage to any team and in any team fight. Although his ganking is not the best in the game he can influence any fight with the press of his ultimate.

Requiem: Requiem is Karthus' ultimate which does damage to all enemy champions. Be careful because you can be disabled out of this ult so be sure you are no in the open when you use it.

When to use Requiem?

Use Requiem to secure a kill never use it to steal a kill that is already going to be secured. The reason for this is if you when it is not necessarily then you will not have it when you need it later.

  • Kassadin
  • Viegar
  • Xerath
  • Talon

Kassadin is a mage champion that can gank lanes better than almost any other champion. He is equipped with a flash like ultimate and a silence making him one of the best assassins in the game. Kassadin can pick off targets and sway the game with ganks.

Keep in mind that Kassadin is a counter pick and should be picked against squishy mage type champions that you can shut down in lane. This will give your team a huge advantage and you will win many games.

  • Talon
  • Pantheon
  • Tryndamere
  • Gangplank

Veigar is one of those over powered champions that not many people play. She is great at bursting people down very easily and can eliminate a carry from a fight before it starts.

  • Ryze
  • Talon
  • Annie

Twisted Fate

Twisted Fate is a great mid champion with load and load of damage and a great ultimate. The recently nerfed global ultimates and that is because they are ridiculously good. With Twisted Fate you have the ability to change the odds of fights all over the map. This wins games. Winner winner chicken dinner.

  • There are very few TF players that can really use his kit correctly and carry games with him. He can be pretty hard to master but has a huge impact on the game if used properly.

  • Kassadin
  • Annie
  • Talon

Ever since they buffed her she has been out of control. She is a great pick that is able to stop nearly everyone in lane and completely own team fights if she gets a kill. Kat is really strong at the moment and definitely a great pick for carrying ranked games.

  • Pick your spots to engage. You do not want to be the first one in as Kat because you will get bursted and be useless. The key is to wait til enemies are loose and go in and chain the entire enemy team.

  • High CC or Crowd Control
  • Bruisers

Cho' Gath

Cho is a great pick and is one of the most dominate mid picks in the game. Not only is his laning phase really good but he also has a massive amount of crowd control to take you into the late game. His silence is 3 seconds and is area of effect making it, in my opinion, the best cc in the game.

  • When playing Cho make sure you can land your crowd control and last hit. If you miss your skills you will be less effective.

Ashe is a great ranged carry and the reason she is good at winning games is because her arrow can set up kills and start team fights late game. Ashe is a champion that is just a monster late game. Because of the slows, no one can get near her and no one can escape. If you can get skilled with Ashe you will dominate ranked games all day every day.

  • You must and I repeat must use your arrows well and as often as possible when you are ahead in lane. This will help the other lanes win and increase your chances of winning greatly.
  • Position well. You can't get caught as Ashe because her kit is so unforgiving. Stay in the back and use your crowd control.

  • Graves
  • Ezreal
  • High burst compositions and high crowd control

Overall Graves is a great champion and he is really easy to play. He is one of my favorite champions and just has a great skillset. Champions like this are some of the best to carry ranked games.

  • Try to match up with a bursty support like Leona or Taric so you can easily pick up kills in lane. You have to be aggressive early and win lane if you want to carry as Graves.

  • Ezreal
  • Corki
  • Caitlyn

Graves has very low range which is why your need a support with crowd control to close a gap.

Ezreal is a great ranged carry and if you are good with him you can just wreck lane and win late game. The key is to be good with his w. If you use it effectively in lane you will easily win.

  • You have to be able to land your Q with Ezreal but if you can you have a very long range poke that can easily lead to winning lane.

  • The best way to be Ezreal is to play aggressive early and take advantage of when he is really weak.

The cow is overpowered especially in the jungle. Alistar has great level 2 ganks and can win lanes with easy kills. His level two ganks are the best in the game and he strikes parionia into the hearts of the enemy. Your enemy will always be afraid of ganks and that will cause them to play passively all game.

I have been playing a decent amount lately and I have noticed that Amumu is just broken at the moment and is extremely hard to play against. I am putting him on this list simply because his ult, cc, and skill set can basically win team fights.

  • Cleanse
  • Quick Silver Sash

Other Strong Picks in Ranked Games

  • Shen: Strong tanking and global ultimate
  • Malphite: Strong crowd control and attack speed debuff
  • Riven: Great laning phase and high damage
  • Rumble: Strongest top lane high damage
  • Ryze: Good durability and damage
  • Swain: Strong laning and healing
  • Anivia: Incredible damage and crowd control
  • Kennen: Lots of stuns and mobility
  • Morgana: Great CC and snares
  • Sivir: Good ultimate and high mobility
  • Kogmaw: Hyper carry late game
  • Blitz: Strong laning and game changing hooks
  • Janna: Good peel for carries and good utility
  • Nautilus: Strong ganks and high scaling
  • Nocturne: Best ganks and assassination capabilities
  • Elise: Very strong top laner

Champions you are best with.

Don't take this list as a gospel and only play the champions on this list in ranked games. These are simply strong picks in ranked games that have good skill sets. Champions that you have good win rates with and champions that you know how to play well are some of the best ones to carry with. If you have a 60% win rate with Teemo and you play Teemo a lot and know him like the back of your hand then he is a good way to win ranked games. Also, learning new champions is difficult and is somewhat of a process. The more the practice the better you will get. Thanks for reading this guide and I hope you enjoyed it. Leave a comment below on what your favorite champion in ranked games is.

  • Play champions you are good with and know how to play
  • Play champions you have a high win rate with and are good with
  • Play your best role if you can get it

Samuel Franklin on August 23, 2014:

I generally lean towards characters like Ahri and Kassadin for carrying simple because of the mobility they bring that can be used to really take 2 or 3 early game kills and help the other lanes with ease.

passthejelly (author) from Lakewood Colorado on June 08, 2014:

Good Ashe arrows can easily win you a game and set up plays around the map. Not only that, but solo queue is all about hard engage because that is how you win fights and close out games by taking objectives. For the same reason I think Veig is very strong and underplayed for the most part. His area of effect stun is a great way to secure a good team fight.'

Anyway you are entitled to you opinions and if you do not like what I have to say you don't have to read it.

Thanks for the comment.

Anon on June 06, 2014:

you clearly know very little about league... to even suggest Ashe or Veigar as carry is sort of ridiculous. Veig is a situational champ, meaning he is countered by the vast majority of champs. Any AD champ counters him mid and a whole host of ap mid champs (e.g. Morde, Ryze, Akali, etc.) So why you would even suggestion veigar as an option to carry ranked games is beyond me. Also, Ashe? Come on, please. Cait, Vayne, Lucian all better adcs. Pretty much don't post if you don't know what you're talking about. Even 2 months ago this wasn't true about half the champs on this list.

passthejelly (author) from Lakewood Colorado on March 24, 2014:

A little difficult but easy to pick up with practice.

Froop on March 08, 2014:

Kassadin isn't easy to play

FactsDude on February 23, 2014:

Veigar is a Male... Not a girl...

hehehehe on January 21, 2014:

didn't see lee stop reading

Danzai on October 09, 2013:

Diana is a really solid carry, especially in mid lane. She wins lane around 80% of the time (or at least I do in mid with her. Don't know if it really works that way) and she can be really flexible. She can be a full assassin with a really strong shield or a more ap bruiser.

passthejelly (author) from Lakewood Colorado on October 03, 2013:

A good support can always carry.

Supaplex on October 03, 2013:

Alistar carry? LMAO

HEUHEUEHUEH on September 24, 2013:

what about fizz , gragas , mordekaiser , lee sin (i play none of these champs) and by saying lee sin i mean mid / jungle not top lane , btw veigar isn't a girl LOL

passthejelly (author) from Lakewood Colorado on July 21, 2013:

A well played Ashe can set up so many plays to carry games. I agree with you though. See is much more of a high level champ with a high level play style. Thanks for the input.

Kalinsub on July 20, 2013:

Ashe cannot carry. No escapes and range isn't anything to brag about. Also, most champs don't need to walk up to you to start demolishing, so her slows are nothing without a good frontline of damage eaters. Hyper carries should not be defendant on others. It's why they are called hyper carries instead of 'champs that work well with other champs'.

Meow on June 02, 2013:

Veigar is a he btw

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGG on April 08, 2013:

Kassadin hard counter talon !!!!!!

Bigchillin on February 21, 2013:

This guy and veigar lol. The only thing he is good for is bursting a single target down then he dies. Deffinately not a carry. Akali needs to be added especially after this last patch. Also, where the hell is darius, lol even a nub can carry with him. Let's not forget about galio one of the best mids

passthejelly (author) from Lakewood Colorado on January 29, 2013:

Just a side note. Any champion can be good and carry games if you are good with it. These champions are just very user friendly and have good kits. Good luck on the elo grind everyone!

jawh e on January 26, 2013:

CC is Crowd Control

halohalo on January 25, 2013:

Sheppers on December 25, 2012:

How about Elise?

passthejelly (author) from Lakewood Colorado on December 20, 2012:

I agree. Ryze is very strong and if you are good with him you can really carry games. Thanks for the comment :D

BedbuG on December 20, 2012:

Ryze should be at the number one spot. So increadably tanky, nonstop huge damge and all u do is mash the keyboard. Add his snare and crazy, free ult that has like a 10 sec cd and you can 1v5 nubs all day.

sayyaad3 on November 26, 2012:

good. good. and good

passthejelly (author) from Lakewood Colorado on November 24, 2012:

Hi treehousebrandon,

Thanks for the comment. Jungling is very fun and a great way to enjoy the game without the hassles or laning. However a fed carry is one of the best things to play in League.

zaime on November 19, 2012:

i think orianna is a great champ to carry, she´s is one of the best mid laners and really hard to counter and her ulti and cd late game are ridiculous and overpower

passthejelly (author) from Lakewood Colorado on November 17, 2012:

Vayne is a very strong hyper carry and she definitely can carry games, but she does require a lot of skill to play and she can be somewhat difficult to learn. This guide is a suggestion of the champions that I think are easy to learn and powerful in ranked games.

Bobblehead on November 17, 2012:

I'm not an expert on champion picks, but i find it pretty weird that Vayne is nowhere to be found here.

sm825 from The Uknown on September 18, 2012:

Thanks for the information, I was thinking about playing league of Legends but with this information I should be able to decide which to start out as.

Reed on August 22, 2012:

Veigar is male not a she :D

MichaelM on August 03, 2012:

I've been playing GP and Cait for a while, don't see either on the list.. they seem really good both. Cait mid is awesome imo. Thoughts?

passthejelly (author) from Lakewood Colorado on July 11, 2012:

Hi sneeky1z, Talon is a great pick put is generally used as a counter pick.

Hi Fingyer, I appreciated your input and I added TF the list. He is great for ganking and carry games.

Hi III, Pardon my grammatical error. I went back and fixed it thanks for the comment.

lll on June 20, 2012:

noob it's Veigar

Fingyer on May 26, 2012:

Didn't see TF. Stopped reading.

sneeky1z on April 11, 2012:

Basicly theres 1 think to do now

Buy Talon :)

passthejelly (author) from Lakewood Colorado on April 08, 2012:

Just champions that seem fun and fit around what you like to play. You generally want to look for champs that are fun and easy to play.

Vette91 from Colorado on April 08, 2012:

After reading this, I have a few questions. As a fairly new player, I wanted to know what champions I should buy. I have purchased fiddle, warwick, cho, Kayle and Sivir. I tend to like playing a range or mage character who can do damage from a distance. I have had trouble with a physical up close character. Any suggestions?
