Chaos Battleships

The Chaos Battleships, the Desolator and The Despoiler, wrap up the Chaos fleet line up by providing 2 very different, but worthy options of fleet-leading flagship vessels. Both vessels are heavily armed with offensive and special weaponry, while providing a level of multi-purpose use to help further justify the high costs and leadership roles.

While the Desolator takes a sort of typical Chaos approach of long range weapons, while getting special access to the Torpedo Launcher weapons system, an uncommon installment on Chaos ships, the Despoiler goes the route of flagship carrier with some powerful backup weaponry.

Terms Used

This section briefly covers the advanced weapon data you will find for each ship. These values are calculated based off the base weapons stats and are explained as follows:

DPS - Damage Per Second - The total damage output per weapon type (all guns combined) per second, assuming 100% of shots land, before considering armor penalties.

Crits Pm - Critical Hits Per Minute - Assuming all shots land, this will be the average number of critical hit's the guns will cause every minute before modifiers. (all guns combined)

Salvos PM - Salvos Per Minute - The total number of combined waves of fire, not including multiple rounds fired from the same weapon.

Rounds PM - The actual number of shots or individual projectiles fired each minute from all guns combined.

Chaos Battleship Stats

The Chaos Battleships have the toughest stats of all the line ships of the Chaos navy, as is expected of the largest ship class. One nice benefit is they still have slightly faster than normal engines for their size as a standard.

Chaos Battleship Attributes

The Battleships of the Chaos fleet have all the same basic attributes as the rest of the ships, with the common Battleship class addition of the low maneuverability attribute, which removes access to High Energy Turn.

  • Plasma Reactor: Gives access to Chaos maneuvers.
  • Dedicated: No bravery bonus or penalty.
  • Average Troop Efficiency: Deals 1-2 troop damage per assault action.
  • Brutal Strike: 10% chance to deal +1 troop damage per assault action.
  • Low Maneuverability: Cannot use High Energy Turn.

The Desolator is an afforadble lance boating flagship candidate. While it's long weapon ranges and primarily lance-based weaponry does give credence to long range combat, the torpedo rack and the high toughness and assault capabilities of the Battleship category of vessels, means that the Desolator will get you more use out of your points if it is also soaking up damage for your other smaller vessels while raking enemy line ships with devastating torpedo salvos.

The low cost of the Desolator makes it one of the cheapest Battleships in the game, so if you need high hit points on a budget, and aren't going for a carrier theme with your fleet, this ship is a pretty good option, but the lack of anything special means without specific need, I would recommend the Despoiler more highly.

So to finally clear up a lot of confusion, it's seems set now that the Heavy launch bay is now working as intended, however now having only one of them that serves as a "double deck" we basically have a default carrier Battleship that can launch 4 wings simultaneously, 2 from the heavy and 2 from the regular launch bays. This is honestly kind of a bummer after all the time trying to figure out if maybe the Despoiler should have had 6 wings, something that would make it unique and interesting.

Instead we basically have the same 4 launch bays we'd find on similar ships, except in this case, 2 of your flight decks can be knocked out with a single critical hit if you are unlucky enough to suffer one on the heavy deck. On the plus side, you do get the extra charge from being in the Battleship class, so there's that.

Outside of the Heavy Launch Bay letdown, the weapons of the Despoiler are fairly interesting, particularly the prow mounted lance artillery, which has some considerably high numbers for a single lance weapon, though again, one critical hit could be a bad day for you.
