Where Can I Play "Among Us"?
Among Us is an American science-fiction murder game developed and published by Innersloth on June 15, 2018, for IOS and Android and on August 18, 2018, on PC at Steam. The game follows a group of crewmates which, among them, has an impostor whose goal is to sabotage their spaceship and kill everyone. Among Us is available by downloading the application on Google Play and playing on Steam. The game is totally free.
How to Play "Among Us"?
One or three (depends on the game mode that you choose) crewmates have been replaced by a parasitic shapeshifter. Their goal is to eliminate the rest of the crew before the ship reaches home. The Impostor/s will sabotage the ship, sneak through vents, deceive, and frame others to remain anonymous and kill off the crew.
While everyone is fixing up the ship, no one can talk to maintain anonymity. Once a body is reported, the surviving crew will openly debate who they think The Impostor is. You can also call out an emergency meeting whenever one suspects someone as The Impostor.
The Crewmate's goal is to finish the tasks and determine and exile The Impostor.
The Impostor's goal is to pretend that they are a member of the crew. If The Impostor is not voted off, everyone goes back to maintaining the ship until another body is found. If The Impostor is voted off, the crew wins.
Each game you will be given a certain role: you will be either a Crewmate or The Impostor.
General Tips and Strategies for Newbie Players
If you are a new player on Among Us, here are the essential tips to survive and win the game:
Familiarise yourself with the map and tasks.
Before playing with the other players, play with the Freeplay mode. While In this mode, the player is free to explore any of the maps outside of a normal game environment. All abilities from a normal game, such as Sabotage and Report, are useable. Freeplay is a good way to practice routes as a Crewmate and as an Impostor. Playing this mode can greatly increase your chances of winning during a normal play session.
Consider keeping a tab open with the map you're currently playing on until you learn the names of each room. Knowing the names of each task and where they can be completed is also useful as you can confidently recount everything you've done as the Crewmate, or lie persuasively as the Impostor.
Be aware of your surroundings.
Keep a mental note of what others are up to as you move around the station. For example, if you see three other players on the way to Admin on The Skeld, and then a body is reported close by, you can share this information with the rest of the team. Similarly, if you're playing as an Impostor, knowing where others are on the map will help you remain hidden, and could even help you frame someone else for your lies.
How to Be the Best Crewmate?
If you're not the killer, your goal is to eliminate yourself from the suspect list. You can achieve this in a variety of ways. There are tips to ensure your survival, including how to complete each of the Crewmate tasks set before you and win against The Impostor.
Complete your tasks.
There is a mixture of long and short tasks, depending on the settings your game host has opted for. Thankfully these assignments are as simple as punching in numbers on a keypad or dragging some leaves into a vacuum. Remain alert when observing suspicious activity, but try to keep your eyes on the prize of saving your ship. Complete them quickly, to make sure there's nothing distracting your team if the Imposter can thin your numbers. If you're doing tasks, each one can be used as an alibi when somebody is inevitably slain by The Impostor.
Watch out for visual evidence as you watch other players.
The Impostor cannot complete tasks. If you're close to somebody who's seemingly completing a task, make sure to watch the taskbar in the upper left corner. If the taskbar doesn't increase after somebody walks away from a task, they're probably The Impostor.
Here's every task that verifies you and the maps they're available on:
- Empty Garbage (found in O2 and Cafeteria) — Garbage will be seen being released into space from Storage
- Submit Scan (found in Medbay) — A green disc will appear around the player while being scanned.
- Prime Shields (found in Shields) — The lights on the starboard will begin to shine
- Clear Astroids (found in Weapons) — You can see the guns firing on the starboard.
- Submit Scan (Found in Medbay) — A green disc will appear around the player while being scanned.
- Submit Scan (found in Medbay / Laboratory) — A green disc will appear around the player while being scanned.
- Clear Astroids (found in Weapons) — You can see the guns firing on the port.
Watch the vents.
Watch the vents, which can be found throughout the map on the ground. You've likely spotted an Impostor if you see a player lingering by a vent, popping out of one, or hopping into one.
Travel in pairs.
In addition to being unable to do tasks, the Impostor has a kill countdown. They cannot kill two Crewmates successively without revealing themselves. If you remain in pairs, the Impostor will have to reveal themselves to eliminate either person in the pair. Your traveling companion will also give you an alibi for when a body is found, further narrowing down suspects.
Don't ignore sabotage events.
If an Impostor is sabotaging the station, you may have to rush to a specific room to fix the malfunctioning equipment. If the entire team ignores the O2 and Reactor events the Impostor/s can snag an easy win. So, follow the arrows that appear on your map promptly in these situations, and work with the rest of the crew to clear them quickly.
Other sabotages include closing doors and turning off the lights. It's possible to fix the lights, but there's little that Crewmates can do about the doors until they open again, apart from hoping they're not stuck in a room with an Impostor.
Watch from the Admin room.
One of the best ways to counter The Impostors roaming your ship is by keeping a direct eye on the whole ship. Head to the Admin room to access security cameras and a detailed map showing all locations of other players. If you can keep an eye on this for a while, you might be able to spot other players doing something suspicious, possibly outing them as an Impostor.
Call an Emergency Meeting if anything is suspicious, do not delay.
It takes a few seconds for the animation to finish after you interact with the Emergency button, so if an Impostor is lurking closeby, you could get caught off-guard. Sabotages involving O2, Reactor, Communications, and Lights all disable Crewmates' abilities to interact with the Emergency button, and there's also a cooldown following each Emergency Meeting, so do not delay.
Communicate during emergency meetings and when the body is reported. Ask where the body is found whenever a dead body is reported. Give information on the players you are with if they are innocent. Also, tell others if you are suspecting someone as an Impostor. Above all else, communicate or else you will start to look suspicious and others will vote you out.
What to Do If You're Killed?
Finish your tasks.
Ghosts have no collision, and can freely travel through walls. Ghosts also have unlimited vision which is not restricted by power outages or walls. However, Ghosts cannot assist during emergencies, such as a reactor meltdown or O2 deprivation.
As a Crewmate, you can finish your unfinished tasks. You have to do them as they still count towards the total task bar.
