What is Maewing?
First things first, what is a Maewing? It is a creature available in the expansion Genesis Part 2 of ARK: Survival Evolved. And as you can see at first glance, it looks like a cross between a platypus and a flying squirrel. Sharing many similarities, such as the platypus' wide beak and tail; the fur, claws and complexion of a squirrel, as well as its ability to glide, like flying squirrels. Maewings are passive creatures and do not attack when provoked. Rather, they seem inclined to fly at high speed when attacked. They are fast enough that it is difficult to keep up with them if only the Federation Tek suit is used.
Your Baby Nanny
Maewings are excellent wet nurses (or surrogate parents). They are dedicated to automatically care for babies and in addition, they have the ability to steal the offspring of enemies by luring their young to feed them. Maewing can transport or steal enemy babies with its saddle, up to a maximum of 4. Most babies at any stage of growth (up to 99.9% mature) can be snatched by Maewing. Once they have fully matured, they will be automatically removed from the saddle baskets.
Fast Travel Mount
When riding a Maewing, one can travel long distances, in a short time, as well as being able to move around the entire map of ARK: Genesis Part 2, as well as the other maps. It has great speed when running, gliding and swimming, plus it has no oxygen stat. It even has a great base weight and endurance. By controlling the maneuvers a bit, the Maewing's glide speed can reach extremely fast speeds, which can be used for fast travel. To activate it, first initiate the glide (preferably at a certain altitude), then proceed to a downward dive until the visual effect of the speed is activated.
How to tame the Maewing?
This creature is quite simple to tame, we will not require a lot of resources. The Maewing's favorite food is the basic Kibble, followed by various types of meat, basic vegetables and some berries. One of the easiest strategies to apply with this creature is to use the new net ammunition, which we can attach to the harpoon launcher. With the net, our target will be immobilized for 60 seconds, enough time to use tranquilizer darts to put it to sleep. Once asleep, we will feed it with the food we have available, and when it eats it, we will be able to tame a Maewing.
