A Few Reasons Why the Nintendo Switch Expansion Pack Is Not Worth It

Wanderin Jim is reader of comics, novels, a player of many video games and a watcher of many shows and he has some opinions to share.

Before we begin

Nintendo recently release the Switch Online Expansion Pack which includes Nintendo 64 games Sega Genesis games and a Animal Crossing New Horizon dlc all for an extra thirty a year. Normally Switch Online is twenty dollars a year so this would bring that up to fifty dollars a year for whole package which may not be that bad, however I am here to tell that this is not really worth it. But in order to properly explain this I think we need to take a close look at what you get for the price and and how that stakes up against the alternate. so with that said let's go.

What you get

The Pack in qusetion

The Pack in qusetion

The expansion pack gives several N64 games and Sega Genisis games also you get the happy home paradise DLC for Animal Crossing New Horizon. all this for thirty dollars extra to the standard twenty a year service. Between both sets of games and the DLC you do actully get quite a bit out of this expansion however everything I just said is also the only thing you get in the expansion and that is where the problem comes in. so let us look at each thing individually and see just what youwhat exclusive offers you get out of this.

Animal Crossing DLC

Okay so I don't really know what you completely get in the DLC itself but I do know that the DLC is available alone for twenty-five dollars. So, something that I have been hearing is that since switch online is a rental service if you were to cancel it you would lose the animal crossing DLC, I personally don't think that is the case you still have the Animal Crossing DLC but you would lose the games. I can honestly say that most people playing Animal Crossing New Horizon would probably buy the DLC anyway but whether you do or not it's available elsewhere for five dollars less.

Sega Genisis

this gives you access to several Sega Genesis games complete with cloud saves online multiplayer a rewind function and multiple filters if you so chose.

there are fourteen games

  • Golden Axe
  • Strider
  • Musha
  • Shining Force
  • Sonic The Hedgehog 2
  • Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
  • Streets of Rage 2
  • Shinobi 3: Return of the Ninja Master
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Phantasy Star IV
  • Castlevania Bloodline
  • Contra Hard Corps
  • Ristar

The thing about this is, the Sega Genesis Classics sells for thirty dollars is on Switch has 53 games and you would own as opposed to renting through the Switch online service.

N64

The N64 bundle comes with plenty of games from the named console complete with everything mentioned above fro the Sega games

Here is a list of games on this service

  • Super Mario 64
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  • Mario Kart 64
  • Starfox 64 / Lylat Wars
  • Yoshi’s Story
  • Sin & Punishment
  • Dr. Mario 64
  • Mario Tennis

Upcoming:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask

Honestly this is the most exclusive thing on this service and even then, you can buy these games individually back on the Wii U they lack the online multiplayer but the emulation is better you actually own them legit. All N64 games on the switch is ten dollars per hit but you can also buy things that are not listed above such as Donkey Kong 64.

Final Thoughts

Looking at what you get in the Expansion pack only since you can pay for it separate from the main service. there is absolutely nothing here that is worth it unless the Switch is the only console you have and you just so happen to be playing Animal Crossing New Horizon. But what do you think is it worth it or not please let me know in the Comment section below, I'm Wanderin Jim and I hope you all have a Super Happy Day

Vote, why not?
