Pasta sauce is a type of sauce made from a base of tomatoes, vegetables, herbs, and spices, and it is typically used to top pasta dishes. Pasta sauce adds flavor and moisture to pasta dishes, and it can also provide a source of nutrients, depending on the ingredients used. There are many different types of pasta sauce, including marinara sauce, Alfredo sauce, and pesto sauce, to name a few.

To make a basic pasta sauce, you will need:

  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 can of crushed tomatoes (28 ounces)
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon of dried basil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pan and cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, and basil to the pan. Stir to combine.
  4. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for 10-15 minutes, or until it has thickened slightly.
  5. Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Use the sauce to top your favorite pasta dish, or store it in the refrigerator or freezer for later use.

You can vary this recipe by using different types of tomatoes (such as diced or pureed) or by adding additional vegetables, such as bell peppers, zucchini, or mushrooms. You can also try using different herbs and spices, such as parsley, rosemary, or red pepper flakes, to vary the flavor of the sauce.
