Serves up to 12 people



  • 150g butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 175g sugar
  • lemon zest of 1 lemon
  • 175g flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 125ml milk
  • to decorate icing sugar
  • 140g icing sugar
  • 50ml lemon juice


  1. Preheat the oven on 180 degrees C/356 degrees F & grease your baking tray.
  2. Mix the eggs, sugar and butter in a bowl until it's a smooth mass and then add the lemon zest and flour. Once it's mixed you may add the milk and mix until it's a proper cake batter so you can put it in the baking tray.
  3. Bake the cake for about 45 minutes and put it out of the oven when ready.
  4. For the syrup we heat up the icing sugar and lemon juice in a pan on low fire and keep mixing until the sugar is dissolved, don't let it boil!
  5. Use a fork to make holes in the cake and divide the syrup evenly over all the cake so it can absorb the syrup. Once the cake is cooled down you can cut it in squares to decorate them with icing sugar - now they are ready to be served.

Tiramisu is the most well-known dessert, it simply is the crème de la crème!

Tiramisu was invented by a confectioner called Roberto Linguanotto while he was working in his restaurant 'Le Beccherie' in Treviso, Italy. People say that tiramisu has aphrodisiac effects and therefore was served in brothels in Trevisto.

The name tiramisu comes from tireme su, which is dialect of Treviso for 'pick me up'. In Italian it's tiramisu.
