You Can't Guess What's In It Smoothie

My love affair with avocados

I first tried an avocado smoothie at my friend's house. I thought it was super delicious and it didn't even taste like avocado! I think most people wouldn't think that an avocado tastes great in a smoothie, but it does!

I have always loved avocados with Spanish rice and beans and maybe some pernil(Spanish Roasted Pork). Yummy!! Speaking as a Dominican, I can tell you that It would be hard for you to find any Dominican who didn't like a nice slice of avocado on there plate. We love to eat it alongside breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Although for most of my life, I ate avocados as a vegetable, it made sense to me that an avocado would taste great as a fruit. You see, I once worked for a couple that was from Lebanon and owned a restaurant. They introduced me to eating avocado slices with sugar sprinkled on top. That's when I learned that avocados are great not only with salt sprinkled on top, but prepared in a sweet way too! But then ... I had an avocado smoothie, and that is how avocados became my new favorite fruit!

I tried to re-create the smoothie that I tasted at my friends house as soon as I got home. I took samples of my first attempt around to all my family members and withheld the identity of the ingredients. One by one, they all had a similar experience. First, they all let me know it was yummy and then they guessed (incorrectly) what was in it. Eventually, I took pity on them and let them in on the smoothie's well kept secret. They were all surprised.

I have been playing around with different ingredients to add with the avocado. Everyone loves this particular mix a lot! I hope you enjoy it too!

Ummmmmm, is anyone concerned about the sugar content in this recipe!! I love avocado but mix that much sugar with anything edible and I’m sure it would taste good.

I love cream of coconut in my avocado smoothies now, because then I don't have to add any sugar. I like 'em sweet:) Although, coconut milk is nice too... but real coconut is nicer... but you have to blend it on high for a longer time period to get a smooth texture. It's all good though!

20 cents for avocados? That's amazing! I would definitely be drinking smoothies all the time too!! Thank you for stopping by and leaving a nice comment!

We also loves avocados in our smoothie (it makes them so creamy). We just moved to an area in Peru where the avocados are sooo cheap---around 20 cents U.S. per avocado! So you can imagine we've been drinking plenty of avocado smoothies. I've never tried this combination, though, and the avocado cream sounds so delicious. Voted up and shared!

We also love avocados in our smoothies. It gives the texture so much creaminess. Your combinations here sound wonderful--strawberries, avocado, coconut creme, vanilla and lemon. Yum! Can't wait to try it myself. : )
