The Best Easy Pound Cake Recipe for Any Flavor
Don't you just love it when you find that one amazing recipe that works for a variety of different cravings? You can switch it just a little to give it many different flavors. This is the best and easiest poundcake recipe ever. I learned it from my grandma and have been using it for many years. My favorite flavors are lemon, almond and vanilla, but I have made it in many other varieties. I have done chocolate, strawberry, orange and even coconut. This is for chocolate, but for another flavor, simply take out the cocoa and add the alternate extract. Try it and you won't be disappointed!
Recipe
Chocolate Pound Cake
Bake Time 1 hour and 15 minutes at 325 degrees
3 cups sugar
3 cups flour
½ pound butter or margarine (2 sticks)
½ cup shortening
5 eggs
1 cup sweet milk
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
4 tbsp cocoa
Cream butter, sugar and shortening together. Add eggs one at a time mixing well after each. Add milk alternately with flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa that has been sifted. Add vanilla last. For plain pound cake, just don’t add cocoa. For other flavors, no vanilla or cocoa, just flavor to taste. I usually add between 1-2 tsp extract in the desired flavor.
