Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175 degrees C). Clean and rinse the turkey. If indeed the giblets are anyone's favorite, discard them or add them to the pan.
  • Place the turkey in a roasting pan or Dutch oven. Make small pockets by separating the skin over the breast. Spread 3 tablespoons of butter on both sides of the skin and breast meat. This results in very juicy breast meat.
  • Combine the water and bouillon in a medium mixing bowl. Add the parsley and onion minced. Pour on top of the turkey. Season the turkey with seasoning salt.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 3 1/2 to 4 hours, or until the internal temperature of the turkey reaches 180° F. (80 degrees C).
  • Remove the foil for the last 45 minutes or so to allow the turkey to brown nicely.

Making a Pumpkin Pie

What we love about this recipe: This pie is simple to make, even for inexperienced bakers. Of course, you can supplement the steps below by making your own pie crust, blind baking your crust, and so on, but the entire process can be boiled down to three simple steps.

Pumpkin Recipe Steps

step 1: Combine
Technically, you'll need to preheat the oven first. Then begin by combining all of the filling ingredients: pumpkin puree, sweetened condensed milk, eggs, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt. Whisk everything together until smooth.

Step 2: Cook
Fill your pie crust with the mixture (store-bought or homemade is fine). Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Step 3: Lower the heat and continue to bake.
Reduce the heat to low and continue to bake. This allows the pie to bake evenly and without cracking. It's done when a knife inserted 1 inch from the crust comes out clean. The center should be slightly jiggly. Allow cooling before serving, refrigerating, or freezing. Yes, that's all!

Is it necessary to blind-bake the pie crust?
Blind baking is the process of baking a pie crust partially or completely without filling it. Why would you do something like this? Because pies with custard-based fillings, such as pumpkin, require little oven time, you may want to start your crust ahead of time to avoid having a raw, soggy bottom.

Several reviewers recommend blind baking the pie crust in the recipe, especially if using homemade pie crust. Learn how to blind-bake a pie crust, whether store-bought or homemade, step by step. If you're using a frozen pie crust, the package will usually include instructions for blind baking.
