Terry's Chocolate Orange

"Whack It... Don't Tap It!"

This is one of the few indulgences that I enjoy. I'm guaranteed to get one or two in my stocking and I will usually buy one while I'm doing my Christmas shopping then I'm good for another year.

What I like about it? Well, it's orange flavored chocolate which is yummy. One or two wedges will do me all day. Hello, it's milk chocolate. What's not to love.

This delectable chocolate originated in the UK and used to only be available seasonally here but it has since become so popular it is available year round in many countries.

They make hilarious commercials (as you will see below) to promote it. One of my favorite involves a young chap sitting in his livingroom, bored and about to whack his orange (get your mind out of the gutter). He whacks his Terry's Chocolate Orange so hard that the lady in the apartment above falls through the ceiling with her tub where she's having a bubble bath (mind can return to the gutter). Totally cute and works with one of their slogans: "When you whack a Terry's Chocolate Orange, Good Things Happen".

Over the last few years they've come out with a few other flavors but I'm a purist and stick with the original chocolate orange.

If you haven't tried Terry's and you like milky chocolate then I highly recommend you try it this Christmas.

Below you will find 10 ways to eat your Terry's Chocolate Orange. Enjoy!

I have never had Terry's Chocolate Orange anything. These products sound amazing. I need the cheesecake now!

myraggededge on January 12, 2011:

One or two wedges a day?? C'mon. I can eat a whole one straight off. I always have them for Christmas, never at any other time of the year. I put one each in the kid's stockings - they have a designated chocolate stocking, which I can raid whenever I want. And I always give myself a TCO. xx

Mary from Chicago area on January 04, 2011:

I don't think we have this in the US -- will have to check at World Market, which does carry some UK candies. I love the combo of orange & chocolate (that's one of the few choc-related things hubby & I disagree on...) and would really like to try Terry's Chocolate Orange. Your idea of baking a slice of it into the center of a c. chip cookie is especially appealing.

Thomas F. Wuthrich from Michigan on January 04, 2011:

Didn't Droste, the Dutch milk chocolate company, originate the milk chocolate orange? Or was Terry's come first? I remember enjoying the Droste version each Christmas when I was a kid...a couple of centuries ago. :)

BrickHouseFabrics on January 02, 2011:

Love it at Christmas!

Bellezza-Decor from Canada on December 30, 2010:

Yummy and sinfully delicious ideas!

daoine lm on December 28, 2010:

Oh I remember this from way back when I lived in the UK! It took a bit of getting used to, but the flavour grew on me ;-)

GrinningFool on December 09, 2010:

My kids get these for me every Christmas!

Rachel Thomas on December 07, 2010:

They're hard to find here in Aus, but that doesn't stop me loving them!

javr from British Columbia, Canada on December 06, 2010:

These are absolutely essential each year. It isn't Christmas until I whack one. Blessed!

Moe Wood (author) from Eastern Ontario on November 22, 2010:

@Lee Hansen: I haven't seen the raspberry up here in years. I've never been a fan of dark chocolate but if it's Terry's I probably wouldn't turn it away. LOL

Lee Hansen from Vermont on November 22, 2010:

Hubby adores chocolate orange (dark chocolate) treats for the holidays. I prefer mint or raspberry with my dark chocolate ... your recipe ideas will be popular in our chocoholics home.

Holley Web on November 17, 2010:

I love this! The commercials are really cute! My chocolate orange is never safe.. from me :)

Never have tried orange-flavored chocolate. Sounds delish! And, you're right, that's a cute commercial. The UK makes some of the best.

WindyWintersHubs from Vancouver Island, BC on December 14, 2009:

I love surprising my kids with a Terry's Chocolate Orange in their stocking. Ok, maybe mine, too! Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for 2010! :)

Moe Wood (author) from Eastern Ontario on December 13, 2009:

@anonymous: Thanks! They do sell out quickly this time of year.

anonymous on December 13, 2009:

Your last comment on getting Terry's delivered to your door - Amazon does NOT have these in stock. You need to change your ad.

anonymous on November 13, 2009:

An American here, having just seen (and bought) my first Milk Chocolate Orange in a few years, and it's only been that long because I haven't seen them around. It's still as delicious as I remember, but... *sob* MY SOUL FOR DARK CHOCOLATE RASPBERRY!!!

Moe Wood (author) from Eastern Ontario on June 22, 2009:

[in reply to JaguarJulie] It depends where you live. In some places it is just available at Christmas and New Years. And in others, like here it's available all year round except more expensive than at Christmas or New Years. I checked the Amazon link last in Spring and they had restocked. It was a good price, something like $3 a ball. Keeping watching!

julieannbrady on June 22, 2009:

Wow! I had never heard of this delectable treat -- and really love that Harrison Ford-like commercial. I see that Amazon has listed this as "Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available." So, this is only available at certain times of the year? How much should I expect to pay for it. I want to try it! Yumm.

KimGiancaterino on June 18, 2009:

These are one of my "December only" indulgences. This lens is featured on A Day of 100 Squid Angel Blessings.

Bellezza-Decor from Canada on June 16, 2009:

I love just about anything flavored Chocolate Orange. Lensrolled into Sinful Chocolate Cakes and 5*!

mrsm54321 on March 26, 2009:

Do you know that in the UK we can get Terry's Chocolate Orange as normal chocolate bars? It means we don't have to wait until Christmas.

My favourite advert is the Dawn French one where she says "It's not Terry's its mine!"

I've got cravings now ...

anonymous on January 04, 2009:

I've tried these a couple of times, and they are yummy. You gave GREAT ideas to incorporate them into other foods. Mmmmmm! Great lens. 5*s and lensrolls.

anonymous on December 31, 2008:

Here are a few links I found that sell these. Though I don't know if they ship outside Canada ... I do know the first link is charging about double what you'd pay in the store, so you have to really want it. haha

[in reply to Doug] You can likely order them out of Canada. Anywhere you'd find chocolate being sold they're there during the Christmas rush, starting about October right through to December. Wal-Mart, grocery stores, pharmacy's, etc. They're very popular in Canada. I don't know a person who doesn't get one in their Christmas stocking.

Sometimes you'll find them for Valentine's Day and Easter too. Not sure if this helps, but it might, so there you go. :)

Moe Wood (author) from Eastern Ontario on December 23, 2008:

[in reply to Doug] Sorry Doug but it really late in the season and everyone is sold out. I found some on ebay but that's only good if you live in the UK.

anonymous on December 22, 2008:

I am desperately trying to order these. I love them. I ordered from Nelis Dutch shop but then today received an email saying they no longer had them. I am looking for any place to order them so any links would be great. Thanks.

Moe Wood (author) from Eastern Ontario on December 09, 2008:

[in reply to jack] You can get them at the drug store. I've also added a link where you can get a 6 pack from Amazon.

anonymous on December 09, 2008:

where do you guys buy these chocolate?

where do they sell them?

Moe Wood (author) from Eastern Ontario on October 30, 2008:

[in reply to susannad] LOL, Thanks Susannad. Makes total sense, since the boomerang is like what, second nature for some down under. I'll have a sliver of orange in your honor!

Susanna Duffy from Melbourne Australia on October 29, 2008:

Oh yes they're lovely. Lovely. Lovely. P.S Those people in the video aren't Australian, one of them would have caught the chocolate orange instantly - too fast for us to even see - we would need a slomo replay..(We're experts at catching things). And I am now throwing 5* for you to catch
