Have you ever felt the sense of guilt for having a bad attitude toward a person? Worse of all, have you signed into Facebook finding a post from that person? Worse than worse, for casualty has she happened to be your daughter in law posting a picture of a plate with desiring words... Have you ever experienced it? Lol...I had that experience, and you know what? No, you don't!

I made her the dish. It is a quick and easy recipe. It is a healthy food and on the side guilt free. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and recipes in the hand of the chef. I will show in this hub the way Lastheart prepares stuffed "canoes".

This recipe is stuffed canoes from ripe plantain with beef.

First of all, the dish name is known as "canoe" because it resembles the narrow boat, typically pointed at both ends and open on the top; known also as "Canoe". There are a variety of stuffed canoes recipes.

A Japanese scientist known as Dr. Darryl See, University of Tokyo, contributed to the fight against cancer (abnormal cells that infect the body) revealing that ripe plantains produce a substance called TNF (tumor necrosis factor) that has the ability to combat the mutant cells. The degree of anti-cancer effect corresponds to the degree of ripeness of the fruit, so the more black; the more effective. According to the Professor a yellow plantain with dark skin is 8 times more effective than green.

1 plantain per person

Ingredients

  • 1 for each person Plantain, Ripe
  • 1 can Beef, Corned
  • To taste Sofrito, Watch video
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • Bag Cheese, Mozzarella, American, or Velveeta
  • 1/2 Bottle Pasta Sauce

Instructions

  1. In a pot (pan) pour the meat and cook over medium-low stirring to loosen. When cooked, add "sofrito".
  2. Cook for a few minutes and add the tomato sauce and ½ cup water, cover and continue cooking over medium-low for 15 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile. Boil the ripe plantain In a medium pan. After boiled, peel them and by the part that has the shape of a canoe cut along a deep oval shape without crossing to the other side. * If you prefer to fry them, first peel and make the cut.
  4. Stuff the plantains with meat adding the cheese on top.
  5. Microwave on high for a few minutes or in a conventional oven at 350 ° F for 5 minutes.
  6. Serve alone, or with salad and or rice.

Health within plantains

The plantain is a fruit that offers high potassium content, and they are highly recommended by doctors when patients have low potassium levels. A plantain contains 600mg of this mineral. Plantains also contains vitamin A, vitamin C, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6 and folic acid.

Eating plantains helps to combat diseases such as:

  • anemia
  • high blood pressure
  • digestive problems
  • cramps
  • depression

Boiled plantains

Boiled plantains has advantages and disadvantages. The positive side is that you do not need fat for cooking, so it will offer a slight elaboration and usually it sits well with the whole family, children and elderly, or people with digestive problems.

As a great disadvantage, this method of cooking causes the loss of much of the nutrients, especially water soluble vitamins and minerals, which by heat, they stay in the liquid in which it has been boiled. Therefore it is common to use the resulting broth boil process for making soup, for example. I usually boil covered and peel them after they are boiled to preserve most of its nutrients.

Final words

My daughter in law didn't eat the plantain canoe at my home, but when they finished they called saying thanks and that it was good! Not bad for In-Law's relationship!

I recommend that everyone try my wife's recipe. These canoes are great! She uses corned beef, but you could also use ground beef or even pollo... Ummmm I mean chicken.
