An Overview of Zaxby's Fast Food Chain
A few nights ago I tried Zaxby's for the first time. Zaxby's is a fast-food chain that is mostly located in the southern United States. The first Zaxby's was opened in Georgia in 1990 and Zaxby's has expanded to include locations in 15 states. You can find Zaxby's in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, Virginia, Texas, Utah, North and South Carolina, Mississippi, Missouri, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Indiana.
Zaxby's is known for its chicken tenders, chicken wings, and chicken sandwiches. However, Zaxby's does not serve chicken drumsticks, thighs, or breasts unlike competitors like KFC and Popeyes. Zaxby's also serves salads, egg rolls, fried cheddar bites, fried pickles, spicy fried mushrooms, chips, and fries so there's something for everyone here. The one thing that makes Zaxby's unique is their variety of dipping sauces and a variety of sauces you can have your wings or tenders tossed in. Zaxby's has a wide range of sauces such as teriyaki and bbq for a mild flavor up to extremely hot sauces called nuclear and insane.

Quality of Service/Wait Time
Zaxby's has a dine-in option or you can order to go. You can also do drive-thru or order online. Due to more people preferring drive-thru than to go inside to order, the drive-thru line was insanely long. I honestly don't mind doing drive-thru because I don't have to get out of my car, especially after a long day at work. However, the line to do drive-thru looked like it would take half an hour but it looked empty inside Zaxby's to order. We decided to go inside to order to go and we only had one person ahead of us. We waited about 10 minutes to order so it was very quick. The staff was very patient and were attentive when we placed our order. We waited about 10 minutes for our order because the person in front of us had a large order. I think we made the right decision to order inside instead of going to the drive-thru.
Atmosphere
I liked the atmosphere inside of Zaxby's. The restaurant was very large inside and had many tables. There were a few advertisements on the walls about their chicken sandwiches and salads. Zaxby's also had a painting of their first restaurant in Georgia. The ac wasn't too cold inside Zaxby's and was at a comfortable temperature. Most fast-food restaurants in Florida are extremely cold inside with the AC that it makes it uncomfortable to eat inside but it's also too hot to eat outside.

There were many options to choose from on Zaxby's menu. I had a hard time deciding between the boneless or traditional bone-in wings and if I wanted to try their chips or just stick with normal crinkle-cut fries. Another hard decision for me was if I felt hungry enough to order the combo platter which had wings, tenders, and fries. I ended up deciding on the 5 piece traditional bone-in wings tossed in BBQ sauce with crinkle-cut fries and a drink. The meal also comes with celery sticks, ranch, and Texas Toast. I don't like celery sticks, ranch, or Texas Toast so I asked the cashier not to include them in my meal. Next time I visit Zaxby's and there definitely will be a next time, I want to try their chicken tenders.
I waited 10 minutes for my order and when my order was ready, the food was really hot. I was very excited because that meant it should taste fresh. My wings were tossed in BBQ sauce so I didn't ask for a dipping sauce but I guess the default is the ranch. My order came with ranch as the dipping sauce. I don't like ranch because of the flavor so I threw the dipping sauce in the garbage. At first, I thought my wings didn't have enough sauce on them because some parts of the wings looked dry. After taking a second look, I realized my wings were drowning in BBQ sauce on the bottom. I love BBQ sauce so I was very happy. The fries are just normal crinkle-cut fries so nothing special there. Zaxby's has a choose your own drink machine where you can choose any flavor of Coke or Fanta for example. I got Minute Maid strawberry lemonade which came in handy because the BBQ sauce had a little spiciness to it. I was very happy with my meal because my biggest complaints when it comes to wings are the wings are undercooked, not hot, chewy, dry, or not fresh. The wings I got from Zaxby's were drowning in sauce, hot, fresh, and tender. I definitely recommend for you to try their traditional bone-in wings or boneless wings.
Price
Zaxby's prices are average fast-food chain prices. The 5 piece wings combo with fries and a drink was about $9 after tax. Zaxby's isn't cheap like other places that have dollar value meals but you get what you pay for. The food at Zaxby's is fresh, hot and portions are big. I don't recommend Zaxby's if you're looking to eat for less than $5 but if you're looking for average prices and good food, this would be the place to go.
Summary
I definitely recommend trying Zaxby's at least once because the chicken is really good there. The price is right, the portions are large and the food is fresh. I did go back to Zaxby's last year and tried the chicken tenders. I still prefer the traditional bone-in wings to the chicken tenders. The chicken tenders will hot and fresh but I prefer the juiciness of my wings drowning in bbq sauce. If you live in any of the states I mentioned, you should check if you have a Zaxby's nearby.
