I am currently in Bangkok with the husband and family. We came to visit the brother-in-law and his wife who are working in the city. They have been living in Bangkok for years now hence are quite familiar of the best areas to explore. We are also a bunch of enthusiastic eaters and as usual, are always on the lookout for a new feasting experience. We normally go out to lunch or dinner on weekends but since we’re in a different city, why not explore and enjoy good food even on a weekday? This time, we agreed on going easy with Thai food and enjoy Western food so off we went to Sizzler: Steak, Seafood, Salad at Central World.
How to go to Sizzler in Central World
You can find Sizzler at Central World, the second largest shopping center in Thailand. Central World is located at Ratchaprasong intersection, Ratchadamri Road intersection with Rama 1 Road and Ploenchit Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok. It is along a major thoroughfare at the center of the city thus hundreds of public transport passes by it every single day. You may also reach it through BTS stations, Chit Lom and Ratchathewi, which are just a few minutes’ walk away from the shopping center. Sizzler is at the 6th Floor of Central World and open from 10 AM to 10 PM.
The Ambiance and the Staff
From the outside, Sizzler was enclosed by glass walls hence making the interior look wide, airy and spacious. The dining tables and chairs were arranged neatly, maximizing the space but wide enough for the guests not to bump each other and also not neglecting the guests’ need of privacy per table.
When we came in, a good number of guests were seated and dining, some foreigners. We were welcomed by a smiling receptionist and immediately led us to our table of five; me, my husband, my mother-in-law, my brother-in-law and his wife. She was prompt in providing us the menu and spoke in Thai. My brother-in-law speaks a little bit of Thai thus having an insignificant need for the staff to speak in English when our group communicated with them.
Sizzler's (Steak, Seafood, Salad) Menu
If you are looking for a pause on Thai food, Sizzler is one of the places to consider when in Bangkok. They offer various types of steaks and food options; beef, pork, chicken and seafood with soup, salad and dessert.
We were famished and decided on pork dishes for each of us – pork spareribs for the ladies and fried German pork legs for the men. Ordering meat granted us unlimited access to their soup, salad and dessert buffet. I think this was a great set-up as I am a sucker for salads and sweets.
The five option soup section included cream of mushroom and chicken tom yum goong. Their salad islands contained ready-to-eat salads on one side and the other filled with fresh ready-to-mix ingredients with several dressings to choose from. The dessert section offered choices between some sweet treats and fresh fruits. I also noticed that the staff was very busy refilling the buffet islands to ensure guests were satisfied and do have what they wanted.
While waiting for our ordered meat, we helped ourselves at the buffet islands. I enjoyed the hot soup and got myself a couple of green salad plates, which were very fresh and satisfying. Around fifteen minutes of wait time as we slowly became restless, the spare ribs were brought to our table first, one by one, followed by the pork legs after ten more minutes. As we started to devour the food, I thought they offered a good serving of meat although the plating and presentation could be better. Flavor wise, the meat was good and seasoned well. It was tender but a little dry for my taste. I like my meat soft and still a bit juicy. Nonetheless, the whole plate was good and worth the wait.
Value for Money
We paid around 3300 THB for our food for five people. In my assessment, for the easy to find location, the good ambiance and friendly staff, the variety of meat options, the unlimited access to the soup, green salad and dessert buffet, with the fruit shake and four refillable soft drinks, that was a fair price to pay. It was funny though because with the buffet and big servings of meat, we were too full we ended up wrapping a good portion of our pork ribs and legs, to go.
The unlimited access to the soup, salad and dessert islands was a great additional feature when you order meat. I think it is a good way to market the restaurant; to enjoy good meat but to also have more of the healthy stuff. I have also noted some areas of improvement like maybe for the staff to establish more rapport with the guests by communicating in English since the place is technically a Western restaurant or maybe improve the plate presentation but overall, I totally understand why a lot of people say they love and enjoyed their Sizzler experience.
