  • 1 spoon butter, for buttering up the baking tray

For the filling:

  • 500 grams cottage cheese
  • 2 spoons sugar
  • 150 grams melted butter
  • 2 eggs eggs
  • 4 spoons heated cream
  • 2 pinches salt

For the dough:

  • 500 grams flour
  • 3 deciliters water
  • 1 egg egg
  • 3 spoons oil
  • 1 pinch salt

  1. Mix the ingredients for the phyllo dough in a large bowl and shape it into a loaf. Coat the loaf shaped dough with oil, cover the bowl with a cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Spread a large sterile cloth on the table/work surface and sprinkle it evenly with flour. Place the loaf of dough on the cloth and roll it out into a rectangle shape. Stretch the dough with your hands over the cloth. It has to be so thin that you can almost see through it (up to 5 millimeters). Cut off the edges of the dough.
  3. Mix the ingredients for the filling in a bowl and spread them evenly over the stretched dough. Roll the dough into a roll with the help of a cloth, and form a snail shape with the roll. Butter up the baking pan and place the snail shaped roll in it. Coat the roll with butter. Preheat the oven to 180°C/356°F.
  4. Bake the povitica in a heated over for about 40 minutes. Cut and serve while it's still warm.
