Super Yummy Peanut Butter Cake Recipe

I love coming up with recipes. This cake was inspired by my brother's wedding. He has always been a big fan of peanut butter!

The Perfect Peanut Butter Cake

Some people like peanut butter, and some people LOVE peanut butter. If you are one of the peanut butter lovers, then you have probably always imagined the perfect peanut butter cake. Well, I've got it for you.

I have baked several of these cakes in the last few months in order to perfect the recipe for a big event. Well, I did it. I mastered a cake that is moist and yummy, and I even mastered peanut butter frosting that is light and fluffy without being greasy.

Give this cake recipe a try with your favorite frosting (peanut butter, chocolate, or otherwise.)

This recipe is as easy as it gets and yields a unique peanut butter cake. I created the recipe and have made it on several occasions, changing it slightly this way and that. I took it to work and family and church functions and requested the most honest feedback, before ultimately I making it for a wedding cake. It got all thumbs up on this version. Give it a try!

  • 1 box of Pillsbury "Butter Recipe" Cake Mix (this is a powder ingredient do not follow directions on the box!)
  • 1/2 cup of Peanut Butter
  • 1/2 cup Real Butter
  • salted (soft if possible)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2/3 cup water

  1. Start by creaming butter (best if room temp) for 30 seconds to one minute (more if not soft to start with.)
  2. Add peanut butter and cream together until well-blended with butter. (I use creamy peanut butter, but if experimenting with chunky, I would add 1/8 - 1/4 cup extra as the chunks will not cook into the batter.
  3. Add eggs one at a time.
  4. Add powdered mix and water in parts alternating mix and water until all is in there.
  5. Place in two 8" or 9" pans and cook for 28 minutes (or as time is directed on back of box, if you use different brand Butter Cake Mix.)
  6. A toothpick should come out clean when the cake is done done.

  • The box of "Butter Cake" is an ingredient—do not follow directions on the box!
  • The batter will appear much thicker than a regular cake batter—this is normal.
  • I suggest using an electric mixer as this is a thick batter. I use a Kitchen Aide stand mixer.
  • I use creamy peanut butter, but if experimenting with chunky, I would add 1/8 - 1/4 cup extra as the chunks will not cook into the batter. Instead, they will remain as chunks, but that might be cool . . . I never tried it. Let cake cool completely before frosting (as with any cake.)
  • Frost with the best peanut butter frosting ever.

My Inspiration for This Cake

This cake was inspired by my brother's wedding. He has always been a big fan of peanut butter. He loves peanut butter cups and everything else peanut butter flavored. He really was not a chocolate lover, but could tolerate a little if combined with a ton of peanut butter!

For his wedding (which was a wild pirate theme), I made this cake. It contained ALL the peanut butter ingredients I could find.

If you love this flavor as much as my brother, especially if you love peanut butter without a bunch of chocolate, this is your cake!!!

Sounds delicious. I've made peanut butter pie and have a recipe for it on one of my lenses, but I've not tried making a peanut butter cake. It's got to be good if it has peanut butter!

Ooooh we love peanut butter in this house. I think my dad started it when I was a kid as the first thing he would grab after work was some peanut butter toast. Lovely cake :)
