17 Mug Recipes For When You're Feeling Bored or Lazy

Introduction

Sometimes you don't have the energy to make a full dinner from scratch, and sometimes you have a craving for something sweet but don't want to have to bake a cake or spend money; that's where mug recipes come it!

Mug recipes are recipes that can be made in, cooked in and eaten from all just one mug. You also cook all of these recipes in the microwave, which means that it only takes a few minutes, you don't have to use the oven or the hob, and you only have a mug and a fork to wash up when you're done.

This guide has both sweet and savoury recipes to suit all of your needs. Enjoy!

Almond Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1/8 Tsp Almond Extract
  • 1 Tbsp Chocolate Chips
  • 3 Tbsp White Cake Mix
  • 3 Tbsp Water


Instructions:

  1. Stir all ingredients together in a microwave-safe mug or jar.
  2. Heat in microwave on high for 40 seconds.
  3. Serve with chopped nuts.

Apple and Cinnamon Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tbsp Applesauce
  • 1/2 Tsp Cinnamon
  • 3 Tbsp Plain Flour
  • 1 Tbsp Brown Flour
  • 1/8 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 Tbsp Milk
  • 1/2 Tbsp Oil
  • 1/8 Tsp Vanilla Extract


Ingredients:

  1. In a mug, combine all dry ingredients.
  2. Add applesauce and mix until thick and sticky.
  3. Mix in oil, milk and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Microwave on high for 45 seconds.
  5. Serve with chopped apple pieces.

Should you wish to add an extra touch to this cake, you can make a simple icing by mixing 1 tbsp cream cheese, 2 tbsp icing (powdered) sugar and 1 tsp milk.

Banana Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 Banana (Mashed)
  • 3 Tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Butter
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 Tbsp Milk
  • 3 Tbsp Plain Flour


Instructions:

  1. Microwave the butter for 10 seconds in order to melt it.
  2. Add the egg and milk and mix.
  3. Add mashed banana and mix until thoroughly combined.
  4. Add dry ingredients and mix well.
  5. Microwave for 1 minute until risen and slightly gooey in the middle.
  6. Serve with ice cream.

Berry Cobbler

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 Cup Berries
  • 2 Tbsp Milk
  • 1/3 Cup Flour
  • 1/4 Cup Icing (Powdered) Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Butter
  • 1/2 Tsp Baking Powder


Instructions:

  1. Chop berries and add to mug with the icing sugar. Stir to mix.
  2. In a separate bowl add the flour, sugar and baking powder, combine.
  3. Add butter and rub in with your fingers until combined.
  4. Add milk and stir.
  5. Add the doughy mixture on top of the berries in the mug.
  6. Microwave on high for 2 mins.


[Note: this recipe makes enough for 2 small mugs or one large jar]

Brownies

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
  • 2 Tbsp Chocolate Chips (or Chopped Chocolate)
  • 2 Tbsp Butter
  • 2 Tbsp White Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 4 Tbsp Flour
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 1/4 Tsp Vanilla Extract


Instructions:

  1. Add butter to mug and melt in the microwave.
  2. Stir into the butter the white sugar, brown sugar and vanilla.
  3. Stir in the egg yolk.
  4. Add flour and cocoa powder and mix well.
  5. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  6. Microwave for 45 seconds.
  7. Serve with chocolate sauce and ice cream.

Chocolate Coffee Cake

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Tsp Instant Coffee
  • 3 Tbsp Plain Flour
  • 3 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1/4 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 2 Tbsp Milk
  • 2 Tbsp Oil
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 Tsp Vanilla Extract


Instructions:

  1. Combine flour, coffee, sugar and baking powder. Mix well.
  2. Add milk, egg, oil and vanilla extract. Combine.
  3. Microwave on high for 90 seconds.
  4. Serve with cream or dust with icing sugar.

Chocolate and Peanut Butter Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 & 1/2 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Tbsp Peanut Butter
  • 3 Tbsp Plain Flour
  • 2 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1/4 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 3 Tbsp Milk
  • 1 & 1/2 Tbsp Oil


Instructions:

  1. Mix all of the dry ingredients together.
  2. Add milk, oil and peanut butter. Mix until smooth.
  3. Microwave on high for 70 seconds.

Cheesecake

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Cream Cheese
  • 1/2 Cup Sour Cream
  • 2 Tbsp Egg Whites
  • 2 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1/4 Tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 Tsp Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 Tsp Cornstarch


Instructions:

  1. Beat cream cheese until it is light and fluffy.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients and whisk until light.
  3. Microwave for 2 mins.
  4. Cool in the fridge until it reaches desired consistency.
  5. Serve with jam.

Cinnamon Roll

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 Tsp Cinnamon
  • 4 Tbsp Flour
  • 2 Tbsp Applesauce
  • 1 Tbsp Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Buttermilk
  • 2 & 1/2 Tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 Tsp Baking Powder


Instructions:

  1. Mix all ingredients together and whisk until smooth.
  2. Microwave on high for 1 minute.
  3. Serve with cream cheese icing (1 tbsp cream cheese, 2 tbsp icing sugar and 1 tsp milk).

Lime and Coconut Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 Tsp Lime Zest
  • 4 Tbsp Coconut Milk
  • 1 Tsp Coconut Flakes
  • 4 Tbsp Plain Flour
  • 1/4 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 2 & 1/2 Tbsp Sugar


Instructions:

  1. Combine all of the ingredients apart from the coconut flakes and lime zest. Stir until mixture is smooth.
  2. Mix in the lime zest and coconut flakes.
  3. Microwave for 1 minute.

French Toast

Ingredients:

  • 1 - 2 Slices Cubed Bread
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 Tbsp Milk
  • 1 Tbsp Butter
  • Cinnamon (To Taste)


Instructions:

  1. Microwave the butter to melt it.
  2. Add bread to mug.
  3. Separately combine egg, milk and cinnamon.
  4. Pour mixture over bread and stir to allow it to soak in.
  5. Microwave for 1 minute, until it reaches desired consistency.

Quiche

Ingredients:

  • 1 Egg
  • 1/4 Bagel (Or the equivalent amount of your preferred bread)
  • 1 & 1/2 Tbsp Milk
  • 2 Tsp Cream Cheese
  • 1/2 Slice Ham
  • Salt & Pepper To Taste


Instructions:

  1. Beat egg and milk together. Add salt and pepper.
  2. Cube bread and add to mixture.
  3. Stir in cream cheese and ham.
  4. Microwave on high for 70 seconds.

Mac & Cheese

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 Cup Grated Cheese
  • 1/3 Cup Pasta
  • 2 Tbsp Milk
  • 1/4 Cup Water


Instructions:

  1. Combine pasta and water. Microwave on high for 2 minutes.
  2. Stir, then microwave for another 2-4 minutes until water is absorbed.
  3. Stir in milk and cheese.
  4. Microwave for another minute. Serve.

Crunchy Oatmeal

Ingredients:

  • 1 & 1/2 Tbsp Oatmeal
  • 1 & 1/2 Tbsp Cornflakes
  • 1 Tbsp Butter
  • 1 Tbsp White Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 1/4 Tsp Vanilla
  • 3 Tbsp Plain Flour


Instructions:

  1. Microwave the butter in a mug to melt it.
  2. Add white and brown sugar, mix well.
  3. Add vanilla extract and egg yolk, mix well.
  4. Add flour, mix well.
  5. Add oatmeal, mix well.
  6. Add cornflakes, mix well.
  7. Microwave for 45 - 55 seconds.

Pumpkin Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 Cup Pumpkin Puree
  • 7 Tbsp Plain Flour
  • 2 Tbsp Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/4 Cup White Sugar
  • 1/4 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/4 Tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/4 Tsp Salt


Instructions:

  1. Place all ingredients in a large mug and whisk thoroughly.
  2. Microwave on high for 90 - 120 seconds.

Mint Oreo Cookie

Ingredients:

  • 1 Mint Oreo
  • 2 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
  • 2 Tbsp Water
  • 1/4 Cup Flour
  • 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Oil
  • Salt to Taste


Instructions:

  1. Stir together the flour, sugar and cocoa powder.
  2. Whisk in the oil, water and salt.
  3. Press the oreo into the middle of the better.
  4. Microwave for 45 seconds.
  5. Serve with crushed oreo cookies.

Omlette

Ingredients:

  • 1 Large Egg and 2 Egg Whites
  • 2 Tbsp Grated Cheese
  • 2 Tbsp Sliced Ham (Chopped)
  • 1 Tbsp Bell Pepper (Diced)
  • Salt and Pepper (to Taste)


Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients and mix well.
  2. Microwave for 1 minute. Remove and stir.
  3. Return to microwave for 1 - 2 minutes until egg has set.

I love all of these recipes to make a sweet treat in less than one minute. I know that Duncan Hines had came out with a product line like this earlier this year. As for chopped, do you mean by hand with knife or in blender? I'll be trying some of these out throughout the next year.
