Minnesota Cooking: An Easy Way to Dice Water Chestnuts
Sliced From the Can
Water chestnuts are a bland, crunchy food that is used to add texture. The texture of a water chestnut compares to that of a raw potato. It feels starchy to the tongue, and there isn't much flavor.
The round, flat, sliced circles are often a bit large to just add to your recipes, so it is best to cut them in smaller pieces, approximately 1/4 inch each.
Draining
First you need to open the can and drain them.
Stack the Slices
Stack a few slices together, like you are stacking piles of pennies.
Cut three or four slices across, then, turn and cut across the slices.
You will end up with a pile of almost cubic pieces.
