Water chestnuts are a bland, crunchy food that is used to add texture. The texture of a water chestnut compares to that of a raw potato. It feels starchy to the tongue, and there isn't much flavor.

The round, flat, sliced circles are often a bit large to just add to your recipes, so it is best to cut them in smaller pieces, approximately 1/4 inch each.
