Minnesota Cooking: Popcorn Salad - The Salad with Crunch
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup celery, chopped
- 2 cups seedless grapes, cut in half
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 3/4 cup miracle whip
- 1 cup cheese, shredded
- 1 can water chestnuts, chopped
- 4 cups popcorn
The Steps
This salad is very easy. Cook your bacon. You can either take five pieces of bacon and chop them into small pieces, or you can pre-cut your bacon before you cook it.
You'll need a large bowl. Assemble your ingredients. Mix all your ingredients together and stir until the miracle whip coats all ingredients. Serve with popcorn.
Notes
You have the cheese shreds that add a cheesy flavor. We used Colby/Monterey Jack cheese shreds, but I would have used Sharp Cheddar shreds had we been eating it just at home, since I prefer the Cheddar flavor.
The grapes are seedless. I used one that was called Moonglow. They tasted sweet and they were a larger grape. The green grapes work as do the red or purple grapes. It's just what you have available. The most important factor is that they are seedless.
Variations
The first batch we made with red grapes, the second batch we made with green grapes. Not a lot of difference in flavor. Still good.
I did run out of miracle whip, so I added a 1/4 cup of mayonnaise.
