Melt in Your Mouth Eggless Jam Tart

Great baking idea for vegans or during fasting period. Excellent for functions or an anytime treat.

Makes +- 12 tarts


  • 1 ½ cup margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 4 cups flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 385g any jam
  • 100g icing sugar, for dusting


  1. Cream margarine and sugar
  2. Add Vinegar
  3. Add vanilla essence
  4. Add flour and baking powder
  5. Knead well, forming a soft biscuit dough
  6. Keep aside a 1/4 dough for grating
  7. Press onto a non-stick cupcake baking tray
  8. 1 teaspoon helping of jam to each tart
  9. Grate dough on each jam tart
  10. Bake at 180 degrees for 40 minutes till light brown on top
  11. Once out the oven and cooled, dust on some icing sugar
  12. Ready to serve

I used to love jam tarts when I was a child. My mother used to make ones without the top coating. I like the look of the ones in your photo, though. Thank you for sharing the recipe.
