Crempog? What's that?
Crempog is Welsh for pancake, a Welsh pankake made from self-raising flour,salt, eggs, milk and butter. Crempog is quite different to other traditional British pancakes also called "crepe" which is eaten during pancake day. Crempog is a lot thicker it is traditionally used during birthday celebrations here in Wales but you can eat crempog when ever you want nowadays for a treat. During tea break or snack,some people have it for breakfast, crempog is sweet tasty and mouth watering it is a Welsh traditional dessert and a dessert worth making!
In order to eat it you'll need to learn how to make it....
And it's quite easy!
The main ingredients you will need are:
- 275g plain flour
- 450 ml warm buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 30g of butter melted and cooled
- 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- A pinch of salt (11/2tsp) and drop of vinegar (1tbsp)
- 75g of caster sugar
Now you have your ingredients this is how you make it:-
Stir the butter into the warmed buttermilk until melted, then pour the milk and butter into the flour and beat well and then leave the mixture to stand for at least 20 minutes
Beat the eggs into a separate bowl then add the sugar, bicarbonate of soda, salt and vinegar into the bowl and stirr thoroughly
Pour this mixture into the flour and milk mixture and beat well to form a smooth batter
Grease the pan or griddle using butter and heat
Drop the batter, a tablespoon at a time onto the heated pan or a griddle and bake over a moderate heat until your pancake looks golden brown on both sides, then keep warm. Continue until all the batter is used up.
Note:- If you can not buy buttermilk this recipe works just as well mixing half and half milk and thick natural yogurt together.
Now add the topping
Spread some butter over your crempog, you may add sugar or you can add jam to it. Other options people put on it are:
Nutella chocolate spread
