Is There a Right Way to Eat a Tic Tac?

Tic Tacs are delicious little mints that help freshen your breath when you need it most. They are strong mints, so if your breath is in serious need of help, these are probably your best option. Not only are Tic Tacs tasty, there are many flavors to choose from. Some of the flavors are:

  • Freshmint
  • Orange
  • Powermint (Spearmint)
  • Cherry
  • Wintergreen
  • Strawberry Fields
  • Fruit Adventure (Different fruit flavors in one pack)

A Tic Tac does not have to same shape as other mints. Instead, they are shaped like little oblong pills. For such a small candy, they pack a strong flavor. So is there a right way to eat a Tic Tac? Let's explore that conversation. Let's discuss the many ways one can eat a Tic Tac.

The Double Tic Tac Method

In many situations, one little Tic Tac just doesn't seem like enough. Eating two Tic Tacs at once is a better option. It includes double the flavor and plenty of freshness. However, does this mean your breath stays fresh twice as long? I seriously doubt it.

If you are interested in saving money by making your container of Tic Tacs last as long as possible, you should probably just have one Tic Tac at a time. If you are not concerned about having a good supply of Tic Tacs, go ahead and double up.

A Single Tic Tac at a Time

As just discussed, you might opt to only eat one Tic Tac at a time. This will save your Tic Tacs for a long time. However, you might not have such a "flavorful" experience. When eating your one Tic Tac, you can prolong the experience for as long as possible by not chewing on it. I would recommend that method for the freshest breath.

If you feel silly just sucking on one Tic Tac, you might consider chewing it. While that may give you a moment of satisfaction, it won't be that long lasting. If you insist on chewing your Tic Tacs, you probably should eat more than one at once.

The Greedy Multiple Tic Tac Eater

If you have a nice surplus of Tic Tacs, by all means, take as many as you want at once. Some people will not feel any satisfaction until their mouth is full of Tic Tacs. Also, it is in your best interest if you are a "Tic Tac Chewer" to put more than one in your mouth. One small Tic Tac is barely going to last at all with just one Tic Tac. When you eat multiple Tic Tacs at once, you have the option of eating chewing on one or two, but keeping the others in your mouth for longer. There are just so many Tic Tac options!

Please remember when someone offers you a Tic Tac, this is NOT your opportunity to take many Tic Tacs. No one is that generous. The friend offering you the Tic Tac is probably indicating your breath smells a little funky, and that person just wants to help. However, depriving that person of all that minty freshness so quickly is not fair. Make sure to take only two Tic Tacs, or even three at the very most, when someone offers you a Tic Tac.

The Proper Way to Eat a Tic Tac

The bottom line is, there is no one right way to eat a Tic Tac. However, since the polite way to eat a Tic Tac is taking just a couple, a double Tic Tac method is probably the most proper way to eat them. For maximum mouth freshness, make sure to place the Tic Tacs on your tongue and let them sit for a while; do not just chew them up immediately.

While we are on the topic of Tic Tacs, I have some bonus advice for you: make sure to put a little cotton in the container when the box starts to get low. No one likes to listen to you and your jingling Tic Tac box everywhere you go. However, if you are an annoyingly quiet walker and tend to sneak up on folks, it might be appreciated if you allow the Tic Tacs to rattle about in the container when you walk. Much the way people appreciate bells on a cat's collar, people will appreciate a warning when you come around the corner.

Hope you enjoy your Tic Tacs!

By the way, Carol7777, I just read an article on Yahoo about candy that no longer exists... Cinnamon Tic Tacs were on the list! How random! ... and sad!

Thanks so much! It is good to know others enjoy eating a few at a time, too. :-)

aethelthryth - Oh, that is a good question. I think you've got a hub topic on your hands there. I personally like to eat some M & Ms, but let some melt in my mouth. It is all about variety as far as I am concerned.

shiningirisheyes - There is certainly nothing wrong with eating the whole box at once. I prefer the Wintermint myself.

Thanks for your comments!

Ha Ha Ha !!!! How funny and how creative!

Personally, I dump the entire box in my mouth and shew away! LOL

aethelthryth from American Southwest on January 04, 2013:

This reminds me of a topic I have pondered: are M&M's best enjoyed by waiting for them to melt on the tongue, or chewing and experiencing the shell and inner flavors all at once? And, should you eat a package of M&M's one at a time to make them last, or buy a half-pound bag so you don't feel the need to make them last?

I hadn't put too much thought into this subject until now. Apparently quite a few people search for this topic on Google, and hey, I am here to help. :-) Thanks for the comment!

This is one of those questions I never stopped to consider. Certainly two tic tacs is better than one!

drbj - I am happy to help. Tic Tac assistance and proper etiquette is important. :-) Thanks for your comment.

carol7777 - I could not find cinnamon listed on the official website. Isn't that weird? I thought there was cinnamon, too. I will have to do some "research" tomorrow at the grocery store. My friend said I am missing pink lemonade as well. Hmmm... I will further investigate this! Thanks!

i am happy to know how to eat these little breath gems. Don't they also have cinnamon? thanks for your fun this morning.

Thank you for this very helpful Tic Tac advice, Jeannie. Without your encouraging assistance, I would have unknowingly violated every single one of your Tic Tac commandments. Horrors!
