Gulab Jamun Recipe - Royal Indian Sweet

Gulab Jamun is a most popular and royal Indian sweet. It is made with milk powder, sugar, water and cardamom powder. It is famous and mouthwatering dessert enjoyed in festive and wedding meals.

For dough

  • 1 cup Milk Powder
  • 1 tablespoon ghee
  • 1 tablespoon wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • Oil for frying.
  • Nuts for garnishing.

For sugar syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • Few saffron strands

  1. Boil sugar and water on medium flame for 20 min to prepare syrup. Add cardamom powder and saffron strands and keep aside to cool.
  2. In mixing bowl add milk powder, wheat flour, baking powder and oil
  3. Add egg and make dough by mixing with hand until it becomes soft dough.
  4. Next, gently make the 6-7 large round balls of gulab jamun by pressing with hand.
  5. In frying pan heat the oil until it's warm enough. Add all the gulab jamun balls in the frying pan and deep fry on a very low flame till it becomes golden brown in colour.
  6. Once they become brown in colour put them in the prepared sugar syrup.
  7. Cook them on a medium flame for 5 min. Bring it to boil and remove the flame.
  8. Let them rest. Serve warm.
